  1. I guess there must be 2 collectors that really want that mid grade Mystery Men 3 as it has virtually triple in the extended bidding and still going strong right now.
  2. You are definitely not kidding here. They are really going after that mid-grade Mystery Men 3 as it has gone up by more than $3K in the extended bidding session so far and still going strong right now. I wonder where it's going to end?
  3. I wonder how the early Fox books are going to do in the CC auction today and tomorrow, especially considering there are only a handful of them on this go round here? Looks like there's only the one Mystery Men 3, the one restored Science 2, and a couple of Wonderworld's. Definitely looks like a dearth of Fox books this time, especially in comparison to the past few CC auctions over the past year. I guess this explains the strong aggressive pricing on the Science 2 at multiples of condition guide, even though it's still a restored copy. Looks like the one in the rear of the pack choking on the fumes of the other Fox books is the Wonderworld 11 which is still running at only half of condition guide, even though it seems to present really nice relative to its assigned CGC grade.
  4. I guess not so strong when you compared it to this CGC 1.0 graded copy of 'Tec 31 which sold in 2016 and again in 2017: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=666486&title=DETECTIVECOMICS https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=727871&title=DETECTIVECOMICS And as you'll note, both times in previous years for substantially more money that what this copy ended up selling for.
  5. From the point of view of you being the buyer and the prices were so nosebleed high, or from the point of view of you being the seller and the prices seem like dumpster diving bargains compared to past recent auctions?
  6. Yes the Tec 35 & 38 are well off recent price per point sales. Well, the 'Tec 38 was down by a lot more than just $3K to $5K per point as it had been running up to something like $10K+ on a price per point basis, and definitely far below this CGC 3.0 graded copy from CC's auction last March: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=676931 Of course, this copy here from last March definitely appeared to be undergraded relative to its assigned grade of 3.0, as did its companion CGC 3.0 copy of 'Tec 29 in the exact same auction which managed to fetch something like $66K.
  7. IMHO, the clapping is for the buyer tonight. I bet the sellers of these books aren't very happy. Lots of bargains relative to recent sales. For instance, that Tec 33 has been hitting $16k/point consistently. And I turned down $18k/point for mine about 2 months ago. Guess that was a mistake... I was the underbidder on a couple of the big books. Just wasn't really in a buying mood. Guess that was the case for a lot of people tonight... Well. a lot of that would have to do with the SUPPLY side of the equation. If I remember correctly, the CC auction from last March had only 2 decent looking copies of the pre-Robin 'Tec's and as a result, they both went for absolute nosebleed prices. On this go round, it looks like they had something like 2 dozen copies of books from 'Tec 27 through to 'Tec 38, many of which had multiple copies of the same issue in various grades. So, I guess a lot of it would have to do with luck and timing, or DUE DILIGENCE on the part of the consignor to ensure that there are no other competing copies of the same book available at the same time in the exact same auction.
  8. You also have to add in the 18% buyer's premium to the Hakes final sales price The Hakes auction listing indicates that the final price of $55,043 already INCLUDES the 18% buyer's premium.
  9. https://www.hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/220414/CAPTAIN-AMERICA-COMICS-3-MAY-1941-CGC-70-FINEVF Well, looks like the Hakes 7.0 graded copy ended up selling for about $500 less than the CGC 6.5 graded copy did on the CC auction. I guess that's the Metro / CC brand being stronger than the Hakes brand, as I thought Hakes 7.0 copy looked better than CC's copy by more than a 0.5 grade difference.
  10. https://www.hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/220414/CAPTAIN-AMERICA-COMICS-3-MAY-1941-CGC-70-FINEVF I'm amazed at what a huge gap has opened between Cap 2 and Cap 3. I am not as Cap 3 has gone for significantly more money than Cap 2 in equivalent condition for quite a few years now. I am just surprised that Overstreet has STILL not gotten around to reflecting this obvious price disparity in his guide yet after all of these years. Ok, maybe NOT that surprised since it's just old slow Bob meandering along at his own pace.
  11. Didn't have time to take a close look at the scans yet, but it appears that the 'Tec 31 1.0 is going (so far only) for $10K more than the CGC 2.0 graded copy. Do the Brittle pages really knock the value of the book down by that much?
  12. I just got a nice copy back from cgc, but it’s lower mid grade and blue Will give it some thought as these seem to be popping out of the woodwork lately. Do you have a scan of it yet since it would be good to see how it looks relative to its assigned grade?
  13. Ok, which one of you inconsiderate boardies went and snatched this gorgeous Amazing Mystery Funnies #3 away from me: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=757483&title=AMAZINGMYSTERY FUNNIES Haven't you guys learned to stay far away from all of these GLOD books which nobody in their right mind would ever want in their collection.
  14. Received and tucked away in my archives like all of the others. Thanks for the follow through.
  15. I imagine that would be the Wonderworld 7 which the buyer certainly didn't hold onto for a very long time since it was just sold in the Heritage Auction last summer. I assume the other one would be the PLOD copy of Science 2 which as you say is already going for a pretty hefty price. Makes the gorgeous GLOD copy of WW 11 look relatively dirt cheap by comparison, especially since it looks undergraded from the cover scans relative to its assigned CGC 8.0 grade. Looks like the only copy graded higher than 8.0 is Berk's Mile High copy which went for $19K, so a second highest graded 8.0 at only $436 (for now that is) might not be that bad of a deal.
  16. Wow, you must have some pull with the boys at Metro because they did a resend of their email from last week for the Session 3 Pat 2/2 a couple hours after your post here. I actually got my Session 3 ones from the previous Monday with no problems, but received the Session 5 one only last night. With your connections, can you contact them again for the rest of us that are still missing the email from last week for Session 4?
  17. That's a beauty I would definitely agree with BF's sentiment here. I went after the copy in the Heritage Auction last month, but this copy of yours is definitely a far lot nicer. Congrats on the superb pickup here.
  18. Was planning to bid live on this gorgeous Amazing Mystery Funnies V1 #3 with the bright eye-popping colours: https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=757483 And then my daughter comes into the room with 30 minutes to go to tell me that we've got an appointment with the bank in 20 minutes and have to leave right away. So much for planning to bid live on the book. Jumped back onto the computer and increased my bid to something over $2,600 when the current bid was at $1,600 or thereabouts. Had a strong feeling that this would most likely not be high enough, but was hoping that the GLOD label might lower the bid in my favor, especially since a couple of blue copies of this supposedly HTF Centaur had already hit the marketplace over the past year or so. No such luck as the book sold for over $3,200 or pretty much double condition guide for a GLOD copy. I guess it wasn't really that surprising considering this exact same copy sold for about $100 more at Heritage back in 2014. Guess I was just hoping the collectors with deeper pockets might have had their appetites filled with the unrestored copies that came into the marketplace during the past year.
  19. I can't believe people care so much whether they get an email from CC. Well, these particular emails are the only way you can access past CC auctions as it is really their form of the Heritage archives when you save them in an email sub-directory. Couldn't care less about any of the other junk mail that I receive from CC as I usually don't even both to open them up.
  20. Never said that it was only the SA and GA markets that are doing well. Will definitely agree with your last statement though, especially in the sense that certain sectors within all of the various comic book ages are performing exceedingly well in today's marketplace.
  21. Not really because it validates the fact that a larger proportion of the older books carry much more true investment quality dollar value because of the underlying book itself, regardless of their condition. Not so much with the Modern book whereby it is based more upon an artificial manufactured value (i.e. limited variants as opposed to non-variant books). Or even with most Copper Age books which are really more of a graded collectible as they don't really carry much value unless they are graded, and even if graded needs to be in a relatively high grade to be truly worth anything. But really, to each their own as it's most important to collect what you enjoy, regardless of their value.
  22. It would appear that your definition of the current Modern comic book market is limited to only manufactured graded collectibles such as low print runs of uber high grade Modern variants. I don't believe this same strong and healthy market applies to non-variant Modern books off the shelves and most definitely if they are not in nosebleed level grades. This is in sharp contrast to the older Silver and in particular, Golden age market where many books can sell for multiples of guide in all condition levels across the entire spectrum, not only in the nosebleed grades. In fact, some of them even sell for multiples of guide in Restored condition which is something that you would never ever see with a Modern book. Have you not seen some of the continuing record prices being paid for some of these older books in the major auctions? So, I would definitely disagree with your point of view that the market has moved strongly towards the Modern books (and especially non-variant copies) and away from the older books.
  23. Me, too. That's because you guys must be the big buyers as I still don't have anything at all in my email baskets yet.
  24. Yes it is strange. But, at least we received them a week or so before auction ends Partially only since we still haven't received anything at all for Sessions 4 and 5 to this point in time. So, I guess it's going to be less than a week now for those last 2 sessions, if at all.
  25. Yes, but the majority of the prices, especially for the non-key books still appears to at at a fraction of where they will most likely finished up at. I guess we'll just have to wait and see the final results next week and hope for some steals that falls through the cracks.
