  1. Oddly enough I was going to send in 2 submissions about a week ago and was considering how to pack them. Luckily I bought a couple of raw books that I needed to work on a bit more so I just sent in 1 submission. This whole thread would have stressed me out as I probably would have packed them similar to the op. Glad this has come to a kinda sorta positive outcome.
  2. Back in my coin/precious metal days I used registered mail quite a few times for 10k + packages and never had an issue.
  3. Yeah I was surprised to see how that corner looks on a pic in hand its barely preceptable.
  4. Very interesting topic, I originally collected comics as a kid in the early 80s then again in the mid 90s. I only got back into them in 2021 when i started poking through my 2 totes of comics in the attic. I find now i'm only interested in the titles and charecters that i had originally collected and have been having a great time working on my books getting them graded keeping the ones that grade well and selling the others. As well as buying raw comics and doing the same with them. Other then some random books that came in lots I don't think i have hardly any books published later then say 1996
  5. 1. They just press the books you pay them to press, supposedly the graders don't know if the book went to ccs or not. 2. I've had several books that yeah a 9.8 is over the $400 but any lower grade puts it below the $400. I never assume a 9.8 even if i think it should be so i send those books in as moderns with a $400 value, I've had a few come back as 9.8s so I think they are reasonable in these situations.
  6. Anything over 1k (mostly coins only a couple of comics) I've always used registered. It's pretty slow but it's the safest way imo. If you've never used it I'd google a tutorial on preparing the package.
  7. Wow I think this puts a cherry on the top of this thread. I was inclined to be somewhat sympathetic to heros situation while also understanding his customers dilemma. But this? There is no excuse to having someones book for 9 years regardless of the work needing to be done.
  8. I think it is well put together and easy to follow. As a kid I had no clue about the bar code differences and even when I was buying comics in the 90s didn't really know what it was about. When I got back into the hobby in 2021 I saw the difference in values and had to educate myself on the whole thing. Alot of googling and reading ensued your video would have saved Me alot of time.
  9. The books I'm interested in collecting are all the ones I bought and read as a kid in the early 80s, which were all marvel. What I can't recall is why I only bought marvel? It makes me wonder if the Fast Fare(the 7-11 of the area at the time) just didn't sell dc Because it seems like I would have atleast bought a few batman or something.
  10. Well this thread just reiterates that for once I made a good decision by deciding to learn how to press my own books. But also I'll add that though hero has certainly not presented himself very well in this conversation he did actually have a great idea by if I understand it right making book restoration into an assembly line type process. The problem seemed to be the human element of the equation and also the same thing I learned years ago when I went with a start up business, that you need money in the bank to be able to absorb whatever unforseen difficulties arise.
  11. Been a long time since I had to try to track down a package, back in my coin days so over 10 years. At the time I had the distinct feeling the postmaster wasn't really looking to much help me luckily whoever got the package just returned it to the sender which then sent it to me again. Maybe now they have better controls in place.
  12. It's possible nobody is in the wrong here. The next street over from me has a similar name and the same run of street numbers as my street. I've had packages delivered there a couple of times as well as vice-versa luckily he's brought mine here and I've taken his there but if someone was dishonest it would be a problem because the post office is just going to go with what the tracking says.
  13. Lol what is it with comic book store owners hating kids? I used to go to a store in Raleigh NC called tales resold in the late 70s early 80s and the owner acted like he could barely stand the fact I walked through the door. I went back to his new location in the mid 90s and he was only slightly friendlier. Spot on grader though I sent in a few that I bought there and they came back exactly how they were graded on the sleeve.
  14. Lots like that are risky, I've bought a few done ok on some less so on others. Never for that much though I wouldn't make that gamble.
  15. Luckily I only ever messed up on a practice book forgot to put the teflon sheet down and it stuck to the press and ripped off the back cover when I opened it. But I guess thats the point of practicing. Anyway to go back to the topic I would think hero would try to hire one or two people to work on the simple clean and press jobs to help get caught up?
  16. Wow this just seems to keep getting worse. When my books were languishing at ccs for almost a year I briefly looked at 3rd party pressers and even reached out to a couple but I never felt comfortable with the process. It always felt like I was talking to some dude in his garage. I decided to just buy a press and learn to do it myself I haven't second guessed that decesion at all.
  17. Yeah its super frustrating, I've sent in books that look perfect to my eye that come back 9.6 or even 9.4 that never have notes. I would just like to know what I missed so I could look for it in the future.
  18. Ahh spoon I missed a lot the last 2 days I have alot of scrolling and reading to do
  19. Quite a long an interesting read I guess it's a complicated matter for the business owner but the next step forward seems perfectly clear. Just send back whomever has requested their books back as is. At this point i'm pretty sure they have written off any fees they have paid and would just be happy to have their books back. If sometime in the future you made them whole great but at this point I think most would be thrilled to just have their property returned.
  20. Wow what an interesting conversation, I read about halfway through but it seems to be the same back and forth. As someone who buys and sells on ebay fairly frequently its easy to put myself in both the buyers and sellers situation. As the buyer because I didn't inspect the book and am out of the window for a return would just take the $100 sell the book and move on without repeating that mistake again. As the seller its even easier since I misrepresented(accidently I hope) the book i'd let the buyer send the book back for a full refund but not the grading fees.
  21. I'm actually waiting for grades right now it's very suspenseful
  22. My last few submissions took about 4 or 5 business days from package delivery to get into the system, Then about 20 days total from received to shipped. They have always charged my cc when the status went to scheduled for grading. I've had a few that I submitted under modern that graded high enough to put the value in the standard tier but they have never changed the tier.
