I can understand grouping of Frank Miller comics and magazines may need to be seperate. I assume it’s a grading system for one and the other. However, one comic TDKR #1 I guess it’s a comic isn’t it? It was charged seperate return economy but they were sent as the one order but 2 different postage’s, well it will be 3 different return postage’s with the magazine. Didn’t seem right to me, maybe you can clarify the postage differences?

I got a strange tales 118 with Ray Moore.

Merry Christmas bud, it’s still got the ghost of 30 or 35 cents in the second O. Next to the O there’s a oval mark that appears to be a loss of colour which may be related to a chemical that was used to clean the price out of the O. I’m just going by the CGC guide for restoration, and chemical cleaning is restoration, if detected and if I can spot it then they surely will. I would submit it as is if it wouldn’t get a purple label but since it will then for the presentation and aesthetic appearance I thought why not just make it more presentable. I don’t know how CGC scores a restoration I really need to understand that process a bit more but I don’t think grade matters in a purple book of this age as I’m not trying to sell it to make money or increase the value.

What are financial aspects that go into it? idkwym. Without a grade it’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay! Best restored state,,,that could be achieved, maybe a 8.0 a harsh 6.5-7 that’s a purple label, it’s not gonna change much from what it is, the book is sound the cleaning is the issue… To colour touch some black is the only thing that might be worth doing. I ain’t paying for a colour touch. There’s no motive to profit, this is not an investment opportunity it’s merely a question about restoring a restoration. I would rather had technical answers than cash money incentives.

Ok so this is the photos they had and the price was in the second O…faded but you would’ve missed it if you didn’t know what you were looking for. It had been cleaned 100% sure of that.

Purchased a comic book. I couldn’t see in the picture that it had had the price cleaned from the white lettering. However it was clear as day when it was in front of me. Because the book has already been restored. It will get a restoration grade? Would it be worth the effort to do more restoration to enhance the aesthetic of the book? Given there are 12 methods of restoration to enhance the book. It already has 1 I can’t change, someone else has cleaned the price of the white they’ve removed the colour from the white but it’s permanent, it might look faded, but it’s still there you know what I mean? Should I pursue more restoration to enhance aesthetic appearance of the book? thanks for your input.

CGC should use the McFarlane signing to set the bar… this should set a precedent. You can use a COA somewhere else. if the book has previous signature and is submitted to the same artist for signature, what will happen? Also if at a convention a book is submitted to be graded and you have signatures already on books from an artist at the convention is it possible to slip through the system? all over the place is loose way of saying they need to tighten an already tight system. Nothing is foolproof, things require adjusting after a while. Just takes a while to see cracks. CGC should use McFarlane to adjust going forward, it’s not his first and won’t be his last signing. The opportunity is there to evaluate where they are at and determine in the future if the processes are working.

I never hear good stories. Doesn’t mean they don’t exist but I guess if they were more transparent it would help restore consumer confidence. Can they just say they pressed them if they don’t need pressing? If they have a massive back log and the work load gets too much then pressure deadlines can lead to errors. Human error is why they need disclaimers. A bad tradesman blames their tools, doesn’t mean the tools don’t break but you’d think they’d have pre inspection processes and regular servicing to maintain equipment.

Hey there so I was thinking if you get a book signed and remarked but don’t get it pressed you will lose at least .2 in grade? Given you get someone who is real heavy with their hands on your book you’d need it pressed by CCS to keep it from dropping. Maybe they have arthritis or Parkinson’s even then they still could possibly affect the grade, not much but enough. I looked at a bunch of posts saying signature grades on moderns aren’t getting 9.8 but get 9.6,,,no grader notes of course! And conferring with census on some recent signature events there are a lot of 9.8 but minimal 9.6.. maybe a random 9.4, any lower I’d guess some damage. but it’s the 9.6 low numbers, with no notes and possibly no pressing after the signing that made me think if you sign and don’t press you possibly lose grade. so should pressing with signing and remarking just be part of the total package rather than an added extra?

Idk nothing is missing? I read a post saying grading can can go either way. Is it a significant enough defect to get green or is it low grade. It could be high grade purple but I don’t know if I wanna go there.

Ok sorry I been vague hope this explains it. I could wash it and press it again the rust was responding well. Don’t have before photos but the top staple is rusted as. I didn’t want it to seem like a full restore so I stopped shy of trying to fully remove stain

Thanks so Kings Comics gave me the down low on this cause I said refund me. I have another post with pics of damage and I just got some more books from them, same deal. So here’s their excuse why they won’t refund me. Is it the dealer or is the publisher or is it Marvel and DC etc…??? Unfortunately this type of "damage" has become all too common, mainly with Marvel titles but with some from other Publishers as well. Marvel are saying that due to the paper shortages they're having to use lower grade paper and outsource to other printers and quality control isn't a priority. All our copies are coming through like this for those titles, it's the printing process that is causing the issue as the comic passes through the binding machine after it is printed. Spine breaks, creasing and colour rub/transfer are all common issues as well. These are not faults we can claim for as Publishers feel they are acceptable. That’s the excuse. Who done it?

Where do they grade the UK CGC submissions?

Yep one half of a the rusted staple broke still got the other half to hold it. Might Frankenstein a staple. How obvious would that be? Guess it depends on the staples vintage
