  1. The Brave And The Bold #34 cover by Joe Kubert
  2. Eric Clapton reading BEANO on the cover of John Mayall album
  3. Not on album covers but these two photos show Jimi Hendrix with a Mad Magazine and Mitch Mitchell playing drums on the same issue while Noel Redding and Jimi are in the background
  4. Recently finished reading the pre-Dune trilogy, House Atredies, House Harkonen and House Corrino. I'm currently reading Stephen King's Desperation. I needed some lighter fare after finishing Ulysses by James Joyce.
  5. It was sometime in the early 1980s. I also lost my unbuilt Spider-Man and Robin models at the same time.
  6. Thank you for bringing back so many great memories, Hepcat. I built all those Universal Monster Model Kits and painted them with Testors Paint. They were all in my parent's garage for many years after I had moved out of their house, until one of my younger cousins asked my father for them to sell at a church bazaar. So, if anyone out there has a Mummy model with Imhotep printed in paint under the base, I built and painted it.
  7. A trip on the subway to Coney Island is something your kids should enjoy. Take the B train, it'll take you over the East River on the Manhattan Bridge [the view is great]. When in Coney Island you should check out the Cyclone roller coaster [one the oldest wooden roller coasters]. You can take a walk on the Boardwalk, check out the Aquarium and try some Nathan's hot dogs and fries.
  8. There still appear to be tickets available for Thursday, Friday and Sunday but to purchase a ticket you need to be "fan verified." Fan verification closed on May 3. I don't know if it will be re-opened. I would imagine since tickets remain , "fan verification" would be re-opened. Go to the newyorkcomiccon.com to get on their mailing list and/or inquire about the process to buy tickets.
  9. I think it also depends on when you were trying to put together a set. When I was putting together my set of Showcase, I couldn't find a Showcase #4 for years, this was before the internet. It was only after ads started to appear in The Buyer's Guide for Comic Fandom [precursor to The Comics Buyer's Guide] offering to buy #4 at about 10 times what it was listed for in Overstreet, that copies started to appear for sale at shows and in ads. The first 20 or so issues of Showcase and Brave And Bold were hard to find pre- internet. Even now, try putting together a set of pre-code Ditko books.
  10. I don't understand CGC's stance on this issue. If someone stole a comic being graded or verified by CGC and the theft was witnessed by someone else, wouldn't CGC want the witness to describe the thief and assist them in identifying them? Starlin's signature was provided but not paid for by the fan who agreed to pay a fee for his services. That is theft of service. It is a crime. Why wouldn't CGC assist in identifying the person who committed the crime?
  11. I purchased a four day pass for last year's NYC Comic Con and attended all four days. One of the reasons I attended all four days was because of the panels that were given. What I'd like to know is, will a schedule appear before the individual days go on sale? If not, how will I be able to decide which day or days I would like to purchase?
  12. How can you be a Horror fan and not like something like this cover by Ditko?
  13. A few Ditko precode covers. [img'>http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss311/Anttheknee1950/RacketSquad12.jpg[/img]
  14. Yes, I'm "The Ancient One." I have other pages just as old or older in my collection. One day I'll get around to photographing them and post them.
  15. I won this Frank Mclaughlin Judomaster #96 page 11 on ComicLink yesterday. I have had page 12 from Judomaster #96 for about 40 years [sorry no picture of that page]. It will be nice to reunite the pair.
  16. Here is a picture of a sculpture of Rom with the sculptor. It was exhibited at a NYC Convention sometime in the early 80s.
  17. DC should have to pay royalties for that cover.
  18. I don't think Lichtenstein took four million dollars from Russ Heath's wallet. I do think he used a copyrighted panel from a comic book, for which he should have paid a fee. I note that Lichtenstein did not copy any panels of trademarked characters because he would have left himself open to a lawsuit from the trademark holder. So, no panel of Superman flying through the air or Wonder Woman playing bullets and bracelets. Only non-descript panels from hard to identify sources.
  19. If I use Rodin's statue of "The Thinker" as source material for a panel of Peter Parker contemplating his future after some tragic occurrence, do I owe something to Rodin? I don't think I do. But, if I take a panel from a comic book drawn by Russ Heath and reproduce it exactly as printed, up to and including the color dots from the printing process, I should at the very least, credit the source and pay something to the copyright holder and hopefully the original artist. There are artists who draw and paint from life models and photographs. And there are some artists who can create something from their "mind's eye" without the use of any source material. "Fine Art," as in what Lichtenstein's is purported to be, since it was "created" from neither source, should not be exempt from paying for copyright fees, because he used someone else's creation to "create" his vision.
  20. Just finished reading "More Than Human" by Theodore Sturgeon. It's a science fiction novel published in 1953 and is a very good read. There are many parallels to the X-Men and I wonder if Jack Kirby or Stan Lee read it. I'm now attempting to read "Ulysses" by James Joyce. This is the third time I've tried reading it. It has to be one of the most difficult books to read that I have ever read but there are portions of it that read like poetry and some of it is engrossing. I'm about a third of the way through it and hopefully will finish it this time.
