  1. I have been on the hunt for this book for a half a decade and my data base says I sold 14 of the 9.8's and flipped a dozen more, 27 copies in the past 5 years. A bunch of the sales in 2009 were mine as I had a catch of them in the dollar bins. I also had the than record of $390.00 in July.

Very few knew this book was collectable a 3-5 years ago. Than the big swoop came through and dealer inventories were stripped of copies by savvy collectors and clowns like myself as they were caught off guard and sold for a buck or two.

The cats out of the bag and the book has been on a majority of dealers radar for the past few years and copies have drifted to the convention walls.

Inventories have cleared and this book is no longer plentiful, I saw 4 copies at NY and bought only one, none were better than 8.5. There were a lot more copies available at Chicago.

Although with the $700+ sale hitting the Bay, the tree's will shake harder and more copies will come out of the woodwork.

Its going to be an interesting ride now through January, as a new price scale will be established.

  2. Are you saying that CGC is working today even though it's Columbus Day (holiday)? If so, that's impressive and encouraging!!

My daughter is in school, I'm working, the UPS guy just dropped off a box.

I'm working. Okay, so I'm at work browsing the CGC boards. But that still counts, right?

I'm a comic book dealer, yes I work from home. I'm calling to figure out where my order is so I can sell the books to make my house payment.

  3. Does anybody have any orders older than 6/10, I don't want to feel like I'm special.

You might want to call cause my pre-screen from end of May of moderns was received and sold already. There not that far behind.

I just called and the lady said they are working until 10:00 at night on encapsulation, its still in process. So I wait like everyone else who has orders from June 10th that have not shipped.

  4. I accidentally posted this in the Modern forums but it seems more appropriate here -

What's going on with ASM 202 CGC 9.8? It just sold for over $1100 last night! Seems really, really high.

    K.

Not a key, no first appearances...I don't get it either (shrug)

For whatever reason, that book is very scarce in 9.8 compared to other ASM issues from the same era.

    ASM #201 86 9.8s in the census.

    ASM #202 15 9.8s in the census.

    ASM #203 44 9.8s in the census.

    ASM #204 41 9.8s in the census.

(I'm not saying that justifies the price. But it's not an easy book to find in 9.8.)

It's a tough book to find in 9.8 due to the back cover ad, same as Daredevil 163. Looks to be a couple bidders looking to complete there run. I remember the run up on my Spidy 173 9.8 a few years ago. A couple big set collectors ran the price up on each other.

  5. The superman book is a fake, 500-1000 copies printed, that's actually a lot of comics. If his story was 5 copies and it was a test cover done internally and his uncle stole it from the trash cans during the night cleaning crew. Which is the story on how the sandman 19 error books got out the back door. The guy toasted his cover when he said 500-1000 copies. Move along

  6. Is there any value in coverless complete copies of Showcase 4, beyond a good read?

That's identical condition to my Showcase 4 :ohnoez:

You guys do know they sell reproduction covers for this book :gossip:

I'm holding out to find a cover with no comic, wishful thinking.

  7. Congrats. That is a real beauty!! What grade did the dealer or you call it? One day, I gotta find one!

The showcase 8 was in the fine range, it received a 6.5 from the on site at Chicago. It's fits my collection well as the colors are glossy and has nice eye appeall. I picked up a 116 at Chicago that is at CGC right now.
