  1. My daughter started "collecting" Hot Wheels when she was two. She loves cars and trucks, and she got ahold of a couple beat up Hot Wheels my wife once stuck in my Christmas stocking & ever since she's loved them. Never bought anything old or valuable, just buy whatever's groovy at the supermarket, so I wouldn't say we're "collectors" per say, just enjoying them. Here's some pics we took a short while ago. I mostly dig the weird stuff & the mopars.
  2. Stopped by a friends house who was on his way to pick up his "weeklys", whatever that meant, but I was up for a ride. While he did his thing I looked around and grabbed a couple of impulse buys, a $1 box FF #254 and an off-the-rack WoS #76. Believe it or not, after reading that ridiculous WoS, I actually went back for more. I think it was the FF despite it being an uneventful filler issue, that kept me in the game. They're the only two books I kept when I had to sell my first collection. I can still smell the large, light, extra sweet deli coffee I spilled all over the Spidey. That's how my comic book days began, with 2 terrible books, one of which I destroyed within hours. I dare say I haven't really gotten all that much better at this.
  3. I need FF 297 on a velvet black-light poster to complete my life. And Spidey 17 has been a favorite of mine since the nanosecond I saw it on the rack.
  4. If Copper starts at '82 then, debauchery is The Thing of it.
  5. I don't think pre-Modern back covers really got the respect they deserved as part of a book. I was glad when publishers began to change that mindset in the late '80s early '90s. And I always appreciated when a book sported a back that showed a little more effort, or was just a bit more interesting, cool, or fun than the average advert splash. Got any favorites? What have I missed since the mid '90s? Let see some badonkadonk! Here are some of the ones I'm revisiting as I begin my quarter-century rebag. Really dig the Maxx #5 cover art that never was. The Stridex comic series was funny. And that Chromed out border on the Deathmate Red ad is so shiny I couldn't get out of the pic.
  6. Yeah but you should've seen it before the C&P.
  7. I desperately want to hate whoever did this, but I just can't. "Watch you. Watch you very much."
  8. Thank you, that really was everything I needed to know about variants.
  9. How do low print variant covers find their way into the population? Are they distributed to locals upon request or through a lottery, are they company/industry perks, do the artists give them to friends? Who gets those 800 copies of Massafera's virgin SS Rebirth #1s from the distributor? Thanks.
  10. That time Dominic Fortune got clocked with an umbrella by Turner D. Century, then flew away with him on a bicycle-built-for-two
  11. They're Ultra Pro. I'm really thinking these need to go back, it's very stressful to look at my books on them. Last time I bagged my books was 30 years ago but I really don't remember ever getting a pack this bad.
  12. Thank you so much, my last 3 hours of research actually makes some sense now.
  13. Does halfback refer to boards coated on only one side as opposed to fullbacks being coated on both sides? Do I understand these terms correctly? also, I read in a (much) older thread that they tend to come with a bit of curvature, but is this not a bit too curved? Shiny side up. Looking to rebag and just got these. Thanks
  14. Thanks for the reply's. I've certainly noticed those on pages but never noticed them on a cover before. I know they wouldn't effect a grade when found on pages, would it when found on the cover?
  15. I hopped online looking to replace a random, unimportant book I noticed had a chunk worn away from the bottom. I looked at about 20 copies and every one of them had the same damage, in the same place, in the same triangular shape, to varying degrees of distress. Is this a common p/b defect? A shipping thing? I've not noticed this before. Sorry for the noob question. Thanks for any info. The damage is at the bottom edge just to the right of the upc.
  16. A bit dusty but Airwalker's first appearance just seems a little nicer than I remembered it being when I boxed it up 1/4 century ago. The spine was super tight so please forgive me not cracking to the staples. All the pages are there, no interior tears or stains. Thanks so much for any thoughts.
  17. These are fun. Here's one of my "best" for category. In the '80s/'90s a young working man on Long Island could afford nice comics or car insurance, but not both. But to me these old reader copies were gold finds.
  18. Hello Have had this for 30 years, up on the wall for 20. With all the Warlock hoopla I'm curious how my favorite piece grades. I know it's low, so you won't hurt my feelings. Thanks in advance for any opinions.
