Official Canadian Newsstand Cover Price V****** Thread
bellrules replied to davidpg's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Thing is, it might not be a Canadian. It could be a later print. The only way they can be identified is the ads. First printing should have a burger time ad if I am not mistaken. -
It’s a ghost. I’ve been coming across a lot of the rare Whitman DC books in the past month and zero Batman 324s. (Pics to come)
-
Local shop was closing down recently. Managed to score 4 short boxes at 20 cents a book. Some highlights from one box.
-
I was shocked when I saw it. Been looking for a couple of years

Congrats!

Some collectors think Flash 274 is tough, but I’ve managed to find a few. DCCP 10 isn’t that tough but it might get more attention due to the scarcity of Sgt Rock 329. I think most that don’t feature Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman are scarcer.

Second highest graded copy.

That Superman set has a lot of expensive DCUs in it. Nice! -

Those are Jerry Ordway, not Alex Ross -
It’s not called Super Sunday for nothing. Found this at a local antique mall. Rough, but I’ll still take it!

Anyone come across these before? Direct editions with the Curtis Circulation stamp. Maybe they didn’t print enough newsstands at the time and this was the work around A lot of direct Marvels had the CC on the price section in that era (probably just forgetting to change a plate), but I find it odd that they added the stamp after the fact on the Spider-Man. (So far both 14 and 16 are the only ones of this run that I’ve noticed)

Can we all agree that Marvel Whitmans are not a thing?
bellrules replied to bellrules's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
That has been proven to be false in this (and other threads) -
Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

This might be a bit off topic, but why wasn’t the latest issue of ASM recalled? Most of the copies that showed up in my area, looked like this. Was it the same for everyone? -
Yeah. The sci-fi books did well. Most of the cartoon ones (including popeye 158 which I think is the rarest of the Whitmans) sold for less than grading costs
-
I can’t get over what some of those books sold for. Man I wished I had a US address.
-
I only collect them raw unfortunately
-
BTW If you’re looking for any that are missing, chances are that I have extras
-
Buy them whenever I see them. Rare Whitmans and Price variants to boot. Might be the rarest CPVs out there.

They avoided having the months and issue numbers on the Whitmans so the packs would not seem out of date. Guessing that’s what led to the belief they were reprints
