Happy to add to this great assembly Startling Terror 11 This is the first non EC precode horror book I picked up. I just could not resist. And I bought it on these very boards. ? -LB Cole was a master of cover art. Often. The comic cover alone is worth the price of admission. -This is actually a rehash of one of his earlier Suspense covers but I consider this piece to be superior. The blood red background adds a sense of visual heat to the scene. That guy is totally dead. His face is green. That grinning skull spider is just such a wild image. What a creature! -This is top of the line precode horror right here at its finest! Those floating heads and even the rough condition of this copy all add to its charm. I always thought the discoloration on the bottom right was spider venom seeping it's way through the newsprint and into the pores of your comic collecting fingers. It's an amazing world and comics seem to make it even better, even monster ones! ? -Christian

Amazingly horrific cover. One of the best from Quality. Some amazing Jack Cole art in there as well. Congrats. That's a nice copy too. Tough book to find in decent shape.

This is such a great issue. I've got a nice 6.0 with killer pages and gloss. Just reread it last night because these were posted. Epic and galactic can describe this issue.. Plus that awesome splash page they reused for the third eye posters is here. What a time for Marvel comics. I arrived a bit after this. Can anyone tell what it was like as these hit the stands in the early 60s? Were lots of kids talking about them? Was is comparable to when Star Wars came out? Please take us back to that time if you were there. Thanks! ?

So many great books being shared. Congrats everyone. This one is a personal favorite. This was the first book a dealer showed me to explain there were "other" precode horror publishers other than EC. Pretty great cover. I got a nicely presenting low grade for $30 on eBay many years ago. It's got nothing on that copy though. One sharp book!

I added a nice stack to my romance book collection today. It is an area I have never really collected. The price on these was too good to pass up. Underated books in my opinion...The Romita artwork is why ASM became so interesting after he took over drawing duties. He has mentioned that all that time in romance stories taught him how to draw two people talking look interesting.

Thank you for sharing this Scrooge. Love the historical reference. Clearly a swipe. I like the original source drawing. Some real wild imaginative stuff there.

As a big hockey fan, I love these! Wonderful collection. I also collect Star Wars and original artwork. My favorites are the one of a kind and oddball stuff that has a great story behind it. As a kid I would always have a few collections going. Bottle caps, stickers, sea glass, even once had a wire collection I gathered from houses being built in my neighborhood.

I saw it in the feet and the guy chomping on the leg. Looks like his shorthand technique. Davis had the ability to create FAST roughs. I had an art teacher who worked with him on a project. While they were talking about the idea over the phone, a fax arrived. He had sketched out the whole rough concept while they were on the phone and faxed it over while they talked. That's quick hands!

Not sure but there's a Jack Davis quality about it...
