Here's an example of why what I posted above may have been preferential treatment for pressingstation.com

This book has been currently listed by an ebay seller in New York. I'm almost positive that I've seen it before in the last few months, but I haven't spotted exactly where yet.

Notice that is was reholdered, but the Stan lee signature date did not change.

Gocollect shows it was sold in Sep 2021 for 17,500:

That all makes sense except for the insuring part ...... that I don't understand. Who is paying the insurance and to whom and for what reason? Or are you just meaning about the cost to insure for shipping in case the book gets lost or damaged?

Basically, part of the fees that you pay for CGC's service goes toward insuring the book while in their possession, so if something happens to the book while in CGC's possession, it's covered. Higher-value books cost more to insure, thus, higher fees to grade (in a nutshell).

(Insurance while it's shipped to CGC is separate, usually covered by the shipper.)

Just checked - no 6/29/22 sale on GoCollect - they do show one sale of it on 8/22/22 for $700 - it is the same comic pictured - was kind of a deceiving group of photos, in that showed several close ups, but none of the lower right corner (also no cream carpet background).

Let me know if you need other info about it.

@sledgehammer Actually see one that says #4030260006 sold for $492 on 6/29/22.

  4. "Unfortunately, counterfeit – and, relatedly, tampered – products have become an issue that many companies and consumers now face. Bad actors seek illegitimate profits by creating knockoffs of well-known, trusted and valuable brands. CGC is one of these targets, and we will take aggressive action to combat counterfeiters and other fraudsters, including through lawsuits, security enhancements and awareness campaigns. We cannot, however, provide compensation to people who purchase counterfeit or tampered products. This would, in effect, render the counterfeit or tampered products as valuable as the real deal, despite CGC having absolutely no involvement in their production."

On a side note, doesn't CGC grade and slab counterfeit comics (e.g., counterfeit TMNT books)? While they do label it as such, doesn't it essentially "legitimize" that market?
