  1. I say collect whatever makes you happy but unless there's particular Modern with a production flaw there should be no reason to have to settle for a 9.6. There is a difference between a 9.6 & 9.8.

I personally only have 3 Moderns that are less than 9.8, 1 is a highest census 9.6 variant, another 9.6 that is a tough book, and a 9.4 of a variant that has only 1 9.6 in the census.

I submit upward of 300 Moderns every month... They all go in as 9.8 pre-screens. No one wants a 9.6 from me.

  2. Quick question for you guys. Were any of the Authentix Sketch for ASM produced without the box? The reason I ask is that I have two graded copies of the astonishing X-Men Authentix, one with the sketch box another that doesn't, and is the full cover.

DD and Magneto don't have the sketch boxes on the "regular" covers either. SpiderWoman doesn't have an outlined box for either version. The box covers were just overruns that didn't get sketched.

But are all the ASM covers with boxes, or were there some produced without them (regular covers).

  3. Jeff, you will be in 1st place on the Chew registry... It looks like it will be bouncing back and fourth between you and I... But I am confident the two of us will be Touchable. Unless this Chew #1 pops up all of a sudden. zzz I think its tucked under a pillow somewhere. Some guys here like to play the sleeper role zzz

  5. Gemma, here is the group summary of how we recommend to change the Chew registry for certain books.

    1. Chew 1 first print, Chew 1 Larry's Variant, Chew 1 reprints. The recommended changes are noted in red.

    48 points = Chew 1 CGC 9.8, 1st print

    32 points = Chew 1 CGC 9.8, 2nd print

    32 points = Chew 1 CGC 9.8, 3rd print

    36 points = Chew 1 CGC 9.8, 3rd print variant

    32 points = Chew 1 CGC 9.8, 4th print

    2. Art of Chew, Art of Chew Larry's Variant.

44 points = Art of Chew, Regular Edition

38 points = Art of Chew, Larry's Variant

    3. Chew 2, 2nd printing.

After a discussion on this topic, a few said there was no special situation leading to boosting the points on this issue.

    Did I miss anything, team?

    Where's the Fifth Print?

    :baiting:

  6. The Larry's #1 are actually supposed to have a lower print run than the second printing of Chew #1, I'm not sure about the third and fourth printings. Having said that though, the second printing was actually lower than the first printing so maybe that should score higher?

    Tough call on that one.

    I don't mind either way.

    I didn't know that :ohm

First printing was around 6,000, second was around 3,000.

Yes, but subsequent printings are almost always lower than the first printing. First prints IMHO should always be worth more than subsequent printings. The demand and sell-out of the first prints is the reason for subsequent reprints.

  7. Definitely don’t use a towel. It is not smooth and will leave marks. Regular printer paper is fine but it can stick to the cover. Something called silicon release paper seems to be very safe and is super non-stick.

I think the temp for a iron would be light to medium and you would need some pressure. I hope that helps.

You can buy parchment paper from the supermarket, too. (In the same aisle where you find the aluminum foil and plastic wrap.) It's essentially the same thing as the silicone release paper that conservators use.

For the life of me I cannot imagine why anyone would NOT use release paper. Regular printers paper has a texture to it and it will transfer over to the books covers. If you are pressing and have not heard of or used release paper please stop until you go buy some.

Release paper is not non-stick. If a book has heavy CT it will transfer if too much heat is used, and in some cases fuse to the paper. If it is an older book with heavy oxidation of the inks, the inks (especially red inks) will transfer to the release paper.

Their are cheaper substitutes but why would you want to use them?

I'm fascinated about this also. I knew about the silicon release paper but how hot would one run the press/iron (why someone would use an iron?!?) and for what length of time.

I would think that pressing current Moderns would be difficult since the interior pages are of different ink/paper than bronze & coppers. Wouldn't the pages stick together on these?

  8. Here4Now has stated in a PM to me that he is not wanting or waiting for any books, comics or supplies ( the books from his order have been replaced, meaning they are in-print) & just wants a refund of his $430.00 and change.

This is what I don't get. If he's running a "business" and is worried about how said "business" is being percieved by his previous and potential customer base then why not refund the money for the items not provided?

Is $430 worth all this egg in the face?

    Just my 2c

I've ordered from ComicSupply in the past, long before I was on this board. I haven't ordered for a couple of years becuase it took a couple of phone calls to get my last order of Mylars shipped.

  9. OK. Here it is in all it's glory. My Post #1000

And I actually have a book to go along with it thanks to Mr. Steve Rubin.

I had been keeping an eye on this book of his and was lucky enough to finally snag it along with the FF #48.

This is an upgrade to Beachbums 8.5 copy he sold me last year.

  10. Is an X-Men #11 Pressman in 9.8 a good book?

just wondering what kind of value something like that would have...

    (shrug)

That particular book is the most common of the Pressmans since it was advertised and packed in with the Alert Adventure game but a double cover 9.8 sold for $250 last year. For some reason GPA doesn't list the sale but it was tracked on the STL Comics Variant Mafia Forum Pressman Thread.
