  1. Very surprised the Star Wars cover stalled where it did.
  2. What he was getting at is that guidelines for this particular forum require a price be listed as a starting point.
  3. That's not the question. The question is: If you have 150k to spend on a great Daredevil page, does it matter if you get one Frank drew vs. a page he didn't?
  4. Miller-drawn Elektra pages with Ninjas and swords go for much, much more than this (exponentially more)
  5. I agree with what's said about tiers 2-3 in regards to action pages... but I say let's add yet another asterisk and flip that order for story pages. (100% agree with your statement for #1)
  6. Where is the “thumbs down” icon when you need it?! it’s possible that pages Miller didn’t ever touch sell for lots of money. It’s also possible that certain pages Miller never touched sell for as much as ones that he did pencil. Hey, it only takes two bidders, right? But there are a LOT (probably well more than 50%, but that’s just my opinion) of Miller collectors who are only interested in pages Frank drew on. That said, it is also entirely possible that the old whales and Miller purists who fought it out in the 90s and 2000s are not the ones participating in Miller auctions these days, even the pages he drew. They either already have their great example, or they can’t fathom spending $80k for a page they remember seeing on a wall at comic-con 2003 priced for 3500.
  7. Published version is so much more intense IMO. Notice all the glue stains on the published page. My guess is he thought he'd be OK to just redraw the big bottom panel and stat the smaller top ones, but then saw how much better it was turning out and decided to rip off the stat and redrew the rest.
  8. I predict the HA auction will set a record price for a prelim.
  9. Here is a picture of the published page, from the Graphitti Gallery Edition. It appears the only thing pasted on are the balloons:
  10. So....what happens if someone runs up my credit card after the breach?
  11. Love this story. Wish more pages were readily available
  12. I haven't ever tried CC. 3 of my 5 last HA orders were not shipped until I called and reminded them to do so, several weeks after the auction/payment.
  13. I took losses (30%+) on two items in the last auction. I’d consigned them back as part of a package to pay for a bigger item I’d won in November. Unfortunately HA didn’t get my things in to the February auction. I think I’d have been much better if they had.
  14. Is Egyptian Queen better? Yes, but make no mistake, this painting is an A+ Frazetta Oil. Don't listen to the few knuckleheads on this board nit-picking the way he painted the legs.
  15. I had a Frank Quitely pencil page that had numerous Xs in the areas to fill in black. If I could have I'd have paid him to color them in with pencil so the page presented better. Instead I just sold the page. Given that all the detail/line work on that Superboy page was done in ink, I would have no problem having the artist fill in the black areas.
  16. Wow! I almost just dismissed this post as crazy-talk, but you've brought up a very interesting consideration that's not THAT far out of the realm of possibility.
  17. It's hard enough finding someone who will give you what your item is worth. You're taking it to the next level by hoping: 1.They also have something you want 2. They are willing to part with that something and 3. They are not bat-s**t crazy about the value of their piece. Best to simply sell and then use that money to purchase (in my experience)
  18. Trades are hard. Not impossible, but hard. Everyone (yourself and myself included) likes and values their own stuff higher than the rest of the world. I have had luck trading with Dealers for items they'd had in their inventory for a while. (think: 2+ years)
  19. I remember a friend of mine several years back had a great piece by _______ from a very specific issue of his groundbreaking run on ______. Anyways, a well-known collector/dealer/etc begged and pleaded with him for the piece. It was of course a grail. You know the drill. Anyways a month later I find out that there is this whale of whales paying insane (multiples) money for pages from that very specific issue. I call my friend to tell him what I'd found out, and it turns out he was SITTING IN A CAR driving with the collector/dealer while I called him with the info. Always reminded me of that scene from Godfather II where Michael discovers Fredo's betrayed him. Fredo's still jovial and hamming it up at the club with everyone while Michael goes eerily silent as the information hits him.
  20. I dunno. I remember back in the mid 2000s going to SD and hoping to try to get a spot on the AH! list....I got there a 2 hours before the day opened hoping to be the first in the door and first to his booth and you know what? The list was long filled by moment I got there. People who were up at 4AM waiting in line, people with dealer badges, etc etc. And 90% of the stuff ended up flipped for profit within a month of the show. If I had known I had no hope of making the list, I could have enjoyed a very nice morning. I don't mind the auctioning of spots.
  21. Pretty cool. That sketch predates X-Men 212 by 6-7 years
  22. Wondering people's thoughts on this one...
