  1. I think it's May; try "D.C. Comics The Joker #1 5/21"?
  2. Hi, great comic, congrats; Soti made good points as always. My view: don't return it for the reason you stated. The slab doesn't say 9.9 and that's because CGC saw a defect that makes the comic a 9.8. Even if the book is torn in half, the slab still says 9.8. Rest assured that if the corner ever falls off, the number on your slab will still say 9.8. 😉 Third-party grading commoditizes the underlying. If the slab says 9.8, then you're transacting with a 9.8. The rest is up to you. I strongly advise against reholdering a comic with a grade you like, especially a 9.8 or above. Reholdering means that the book is sliced out of the inner sleeve and sealed into a new inner sleeve. That means the book will be frighteningly close to a sharp object and manually removed. I don't think anyone should play that game. Good luck!
  3. If the comic is damaged during the ReHoldering process, is it regraded at no charge and would that extend the turnaround time? Thanks,
  4. I don't think it's something that will recover. The market has shifted to kids pressing modern variants and CGC is making mad money slabbing one book every five seconds or so. Is that's the right calculation on 40,000 slabs a week? Maybe I didn't include lunch. All hail volume!
  5. omg can someone lock his thread already, it's like a vicious magnet with magnet teeth
  6. I believe it's mostly a caution. I know you were asking about shadows in particular, but as a shorthand for whether something can be cleaned or pressed out: Dry cleaning means using an eraser, and erasers only remove stuff on top. Pressing makes bent paper lay flat, but will not seal ink that cracked when the paper was bent. If the bend shows white, then white will remain after the bend is flattened. (Also, if you fill the cracks by touching them with a dark marker, then you are Restoring; adding something rather than subtracting) 👍
  7. It's easy to be conspiratorial, but every week they slab about 40,000 comics; that's a new slab every 5 seconds. Is there really time available for what you're contemplating?
  8. I guess if they bothered to read the return addresses, but I'm pretty sure it's throw, catch, and slice (repeat). Is there a different question you're trying to ask perhaps?
  9. So sorry, that is great unique stuff.
  10. I inquired because some people are mentioning that their books have been coming back with new blemishes or new grades after being ReHoldered. The general question is "why would swapping an outer holder cause damage to the comic?" The answer is "It wouldn't." The CGC product is two pieces. The sealed book and the outer case that it lays in. The sealed comic is essentially a blister package like those impossible-to-open products that hang from the pegs. You would have to work hard to damage the edges of a sealed comic, yet those were parts that seemed to be getting damaged. The possibility of new damage makes sense since the ReHolder includes a book unsealing. Here are some pics of what that might look like: If it's possible to replace only a blemished outer case, then many people would prefer that the comic remain sealed. (update: swapping only the outer holder is not an option)
  11. Concentrated UV light alone can also do wonders! Sorry for the screencap quality, book movement for closeup was already out of focus: ( video property of Rick Morgan, ImmaculateComics.com )
  12. I landed on something recently about using a suction cup to manipulate the oil art? 🤷‍♂️
  13. Hi everyone, In case you were wondering, Ask CGC confirmed that the ReHolder service is a replacement of all plastic. The book is unsealed, resealed in new plastic, and placed in a new outer holder. There is no option to swap only the outer holder.
  14. I have a follow-up, yes: Is there a way to request ONLY an outer holder swap without removal of the book from the heat seal, and what is the cost for that service?
  15. Thanks for your hard work Mike! zzutak, really appreciate you putting the stats together This is an outstanding group of competitors, good luck to all! 🥳
  16. I did a search here and found a gold 6.5 and a gold 7.0 with glue on the detached centerfold...
  17. Hi, Does the ReHolder service simply move the sealed book into a new outer holder or is the book sliced out of it's seal, resealed, and then put into a new outer holder? Thank you.
  18. Infuriating. Thanks for sharing this; do you happen to have additional Before pics you can share? Do you know if the original problem was due to improper heat sealing or was the sealed book squeezed into the case?
  19. Good timing, you beat the rate hike by a day! Being free of a burden is a great feeling, hope you enjoy 🥳
