    Hey Rick,

Any changes to this list since 2019, in your opinion/experience?

@Wayne-Tec Got a nice one coming! Have to imagine this is less of a question of if it will break a million, but more so by how much. 4th highest graded with just 5 higher and 1 other in grade.

What is your prediction on this one?

  3. In my opinion, there's nothing unethical about the "parting out" of books, nor is it in "bad taste." It's the result of a few factors:

    1. Climbing prices of complete and semi-complete books.

    2. Desirability of certain books.

    3. Display pieces.

When you consider the reality that most collectors face: They cannot afford complete or semi/complete copies, they don't want to settle for complete copies of much less desirable books and they want to appreciate the classic artwork safelycollecting individually slabbed pages makes sense.

Cap #1 CGC Universal 3.5 with OW-W pages is coming to Heritage Auctions.

0.5 Universal missing 4 center wraps sold for $39,500 in March.

2.5 Universal sold for $86,000 last week.

What are your predictions for this one?

This copy is now up to 63K.

In my opinion, it’s nicer than the 4.0 that just sold with the chew. I suspect that seeing so many copies hit the market so far this year impacted the realized price for the 4.0, but these books are no less spectacular.

I would not be surprised to see this close for 100K+ and top the 4.0.

Dont forget that Bat 1 has a tortured history.  It was PLOD, until it wasn't

That Batman #1 had vastly superior PQ and a Bob Kane inscription on the back.

I suspect a Cap #1 with similar history, would out-sell this Cap #1 if it had that much better PQ and a Kirby inscription.

    :bump:with some recent sales.

    Batman #1 CGC 4.0 sold for $110,100. LINK ($27,525 per-point)

    Cap #1 CGC 2.5 sold for $88,580 with BP. LINK ($35,432 per-point)

Batman #1 CGC 3.5 (slightly brittle PQ) sold for $83,000 in total. LINK ($23,714 per-point)

Cap #1 CGC 0.5 (missing 4 center wraps) sold for $39,500 in total. ($79,000 per-point)

These books have gone back and fourth. Are we back to Cap #1 reigning supreme?

It will be interesting to see how the Cap #1 4.0 ending in tonight's CL auction will do vs. the Batman #1 4.0 listed above.

With a 0.5 missing 4 wraps going for $39,500 and a 2.5 going for $86,000 you’ve got to think this will easily eclipse $100,000.

    Predictions?

Up to 100K with just under 4 hours left.

I'm going to guess it will close for 115K-130K.

If it's closer to the former than the latter, someone will be getting a great bargain.

2.5 just sold for 86K recently.

I’ve decided against selling everything and living in a Quonset hut in order to buy a Tec 27 or Action 1, and instead satisfying myself with single pages on the rare occasion that they turn up

I actually visualize this as a course of future collecting action for even the more available books, such as Bat 1 and Cap 1, as the prices continue to rocket to the moon

    Gorgeous Action #1 page.

Would love to see a group shot of your Action #1 page with your Cap #1 and Batman #1!

Probably. For now, maybe for always. But so far not for its characters so much as the beginning of the Marvel world. I think Cap holds greater appeal to a broader spectrum of people, but Marvel Comics one is the beginning of a dynasty

HEY @Wayne-Tec, you musta hit the enter key a nanosecond before me

We’ve seen this, historically speaking, with FF #1 vs. AF #15.

Popular character won out, and AF #15, for as immortal as it is, doesn’t have the historical historical significance of Cap #1.

Cap #1 has (or will eventually again) surpass Marvel #1 with greater ease than Tec #27 will over Action #1–but that too will come, I suspect, in the future.
