  1. Won this last night! I've got one more book I'm going after tonight, and then I'll be broke for a while.
  2. Hope all went well. I was in the hospital last week. No fun at all. Thanks Norinn, it went very well. Glad to hear everything went well.
  3. Cool stuff huh!? Here is a pic that leaves a few out, but you can see the ones near the top better.
  4. funny how your definition of low grade is my definition of high grade... Well it's a very photogenic book - there are lot of spine creases that don't really show up well in the scan because of the white cover. It's probably 3.5ish. Presents well though.
  5. Transvetite Gorillas and Buck Rogers man boobs - this thread's getting a little weird.
  6. Very nice! You know, when I was kid I had a Blackstone Magic set - it was the coolest thing. Top hat, wand, lots of magic tricks. I'm not sure what ever happened to it.
  7. This one's low grade, but I've been wanting one for a while (and it was cheap). Check out Wilma's headlights!
  8. Steve, the Bob Scully looks great! Resto or Conservo - whatever label you want to use, I think it was very wise on your part to have the tape removed, spine reinforced and pages deacidified. An historic book like this needs preserved for future generations. I don't know about the crayon removal though... I kind of liked it with the color.
  9. Ahh... One of my ultimate grails. That's one that will be out of my reach for a while I'm afraid. There's another one on eBay as well - if I remember correctly it's a CGC 3.0 for around $1100 or so.
  10. Wow, that is cool! How was the effect achieved? Is it stippling?
  11. Wow! That's amazing page quality for such an early book! Love the Gulliver's Travel page!
  12. Cool! I've never seen that one before. You know it's weird - none of the four 20,000 Leages Under the Sea comic covers have the giant squid. There's three CI covers and one FC, but they have sharks instead. OTH, both CI Toilers of the Sea covers have octopi.
  13. The type of cephalopods that are most common on covers are neocoleoidea (which would include squid and octopus). To my knowledge there are no covers that include the shelled cephalopods such as the (many chambered) nautilus. I think there are at least 15 octopus/squid covers. All Top 16, Terrors of the Jungle 20 and The Famous Funnies above are the 3 nicest IMO. Cool. Seems like there there out to be more.
  14. Bullet, did you get the Crippen copy of 190? If so I'd love to see it. Here's a cheap $5 pick up off ebay. This will need to be upgraded obviously, but for now it's one more to add to the list. 424
  15. Mine too. That cover prompted my brief flirtation with the idea of collecting squid covers a number of years ago, but I never picked up a copy Did you develop a squid cover index before giving up? 'Cause I have no idea what the over/under is for number of GA squid covers. 7? 81? No clue.... I'd say at least over 10, probably around the 15 number mark. 143ksk should be able to give us an approximate number. That sounds about right - I had a list culled from browsing through the Gerber guides once, but I've lost it. Are you including only squids or all cephalopods in general?
  16. Thanks! It's not quite as impressive as a Tec 1 or a full run of Caps, but for a newbie like me, these were a nice little coup. There seem to be some really nice books from this collection. I wonder if we got them slabbed if CGC would add a note to the label saying, "From the Collection of that Mask 1 & 2 Guy"?
  17. I was thinking the same thing about it being pressed. I think 50 years from now that Batman 1 will still be historically significant, but I'm not sure if the FF1 will mean as much except to collectors. I thing AF15 is the only silver Marvel that can compete with Batman and Superman Keys. This is just my thoughts on it. Totally agree. Batman 1 over both.
  18. Allow me to jump on the "Kudos to Roger/Weird Paper Bandwagon!" This is my first real foray into the world of GA superheroes. I've mainly been sticking to GGA, Sci-Fi and ERB stuff since I started collecting GA a couple of years ago, but I've decided 2007 is going to be a Batman year for me. Thanks to Roger I'm off to a good start!
  19. No...I am now a Golden Age collector So your turn to the dark side is complete. Eeexcellent...
  20. I had just started working on a list, but I wasn't planning on getting that fancy. Go for it.
  21. Yeah, apparently Obidiah sleeps with Polly AND her pals. Good for him. Yeah, but it looks like one of her pals is that old dude with the cigar. (Not that there's anything wrong with that) Great book, Steve! Did you go after any of the Comic Monthly's in the Hakes auction?
