  1. Kudos to CKB for some great BA books! Packed well and shipped fast! Thanks!
  2. Tough call on the Sensation vs. Tec. I think I'd probably go with Tec 35, even though it seems a little pricey in that grade compared to the 8.5 Sensation. The next one is a no brainer for me. I think Red Raven is really cool - like RyanH I can really appreciate the "oddball" factor and when I was a kid X-Men 44 was one of the first SA books I bought so always wanted to read the original Red Raven story. But when it comes down to it, I am a Sci-Fi guy through and through so I'd take the Planet 1 without a second thought.
  3. Blech! Look at that ugly miswrap. J/K That's a gorgeous copy! Congrats!
  4. Very cool group shot! What is the blue one with no logo? That seems odd, as I thought the purpose of the ashcan was to TM the title/logo?
  5. Here are the covers to the British magazines I mentioned. Super Thriller Annual 1958 (obviously swiped from FC 488): and Super Thriller Annual 1959, with the same character, same costume, etc.: The question is, was this second cover an original work for Super Thriller, or was a it a swipe as well from an unpublished fourth John Carter FC cover? The fact that the unpublished Manning issue should be the fifth in the series, makes the latter scenario more plausible I think. I know I'm probably the only one who cares, but I find it interesting nonetheless.
  6. It's featured in Mr. Monster's Comic Crypt or whatever Michael Gilbert's feature is called in AE # 63. Cool, I'll have to pick that up. I remember seeing the Manning stuff on the internet somewhere a while back. There is interior art out there as well. What's interesting is that Chessmen of Mars is the fifth novel in the series, which suggests there may have been another John Carter Four Color planned, adapting the fourth novel Thuvia, Maid of Mars between 488 and this Manning "FC 528" that also went unpublished. I remember seeing a painted cover in an old issue of CBM that looked like it was done as a "sequel" to the painted cover of 488. Both the cover of 488 and this second "mystery" John Carter cover were reused for a British magazine. The CBM article suggested that this second cover might have been for an unpublished fourth John Carter FC. So there may actually be two "lost" John Carters out there. And to keep it on topic, here is my redone JC of M groupshot:
  7. What is that!!? Edit: Ah, this must come from some of the unpublished Russ Manning stuff, right? Very cool! (Man, that group shot photo of mine is really crappy. I need to try and redo it with that flickr software.)
  8. Not really greytone though, just crosshatching. BTW, the AMF 23 is gorgeous!
  9. This should give you an idea of how it would look if you removed the spine roll - not bad, not bad at all.
  10. Wow! Great pick up! It may be low grade, but still has good eye appeal - it's got some fading, but the FC is all there and let's face it, that's what's this book is all about. As for resto, you could see about getting the spine roll pressed out, but I'm not sure I would bother with anything else. Great book!
  11. What do you mean? It looks like organic chemistry is exactly what's going on there.
  12. Another tough call. I'd probably go with the Adventure 40. I love that cover.
  13. Awsome cover! I had never seen one in person until I saw you snag this one in the Marketplace the other day. Great pick-up! Chesler had some great underrated covers.
  14. Add me to the list of those who are thoroughly enjoying your great books! Keep 'em coming!
  15. Well, the resto doesn't help I'm sure, but yeah, compared to other keys, especially other DC keys, I suppose it is towards the bottom of the list. But still it doesn't belong in here with Ha Ha Comics.
  16. All-Flash over Jumbo (if it were Jumbo 15 with the Sheena cover I would choose it) 'Tec 29 over GL Ouch! tough choice on the MMs. The 4 is one of my all-time favorite covers, but the 9 is also a classic cover and historic issue with the first superhero crossover battle. I guess I'd go with the 9 by a whisker, but it would be a tough call. 'Tec1 over Flash 1
  17. Are you kidding?! Shame on you for posting such an historic and important book in the Short Bus. That should be in the Pre-Golden Age thread with the other pioneers. Great book!
  18. Great books and welcome to the boards!
