  1. Since tb mentioned the 'over 100' issues, I thought I'd post these - just for fun. A fun cover by Kelly and a classic Barks: I hadn't looked at these for a while, so thanks for the prompt tb.
  2. Thanks tb. I already have nice copies of a few of those. 108 is one of my absolute favorites and I bought one a few years back. I have toyed with the idea of 'up to the end of Walt Kelly'. I plan to live for a while yet, so we'll see.
  3. Back from the stratosphere that is the tb collection, here's a very presentable WDC&S #100 I picked up on eBay for an agreeable price. It is now safe to take off your sunglasses. With this one I have #66 - #100 complete. If I can find 64 and 65 I'll have #55 up done with only a couple under Fine. Gettin' there...
  4. Thank you so much for all those titles, but what i meant to say was,any books on Carl Barks himself and his work at Disney ? Reading comprehension fail. There's a lot of good background material, interviews etc. in the Another Rainbow Carl Barks Library hardcovers. Of course, a 30 volume set is probably not the place to start. Barrier's book (title escapes me right now) isn't too bad either, although half of it is a checklist.
  5. Welcome aboard. I'd apologise, but I think this is a good thing for you. My picks for you would be: Any of the first ten Uncle Scrooge title (FC 386 through to Uncle Scrooge 10) - no duds in that lot. Donald Duck one-shots in Four Color: Lost in the Andes (223) Christmas for Shacktown (267) Luck of the North (256) The WDC&S 10 page stories are definitely not second rate either - some of those are wonderful. A few favourites of mine are Money Bin Tornado (WDC&S 126) - might be my favourite barks story - Marharaja of Howdoyoustan (138) and Omelet (141?) And lots more - just jump in.
  6. Any day with a new EC for the collection is a good day!
  7. That's no lady, that's.... oh, never mind. OK, what's with the 'fan in the groin'?
  8. Scrooge is asking and answering his own esoterica questions now. But that is one weird image to make its way to the cover of a comic book. Seriously, what's with the 'fan where his *spoon* should be'?
  9. Congrats Mark, nice looking copy for the grade. +1 - and what a thrill it is to get a book you've wanted for so long. When I was 8 years old I loved the Australian editions of the Barks Scrooge comics. I was 25 when I found my first Dell copy (#12) in Lee's comics in Palo Alto. I was so excited to buy it, so I know how you feel.
  10. Worth watching. Interesting that he mentions Frank Miller Dark Knight #1 being worth $30 back then as a good investment. Does anybody know what the book value of it is now? $65 in NM, according to OS. Or just over $36 in 1986 money. Score!
  11. If you only bought one of each it would go faster. Only kidding - what a lovely group of comics!
  12. I got these recently from boardies - great stuff. (And thanks guys!)
  13. Montrealfilmguy: Your Dell books just look to have an uneven factory cut. It isn't unusual for the top edge to be a bit higher or lower than 'usual' due to printing. Here's a fun Four Color I picked up recently. I like the single bold colour with relatively simple artwork that a lot of Dells had: I'd love to find nice copies of the other Dell Peanuts issues if anyone has a lead on some.
  14. An eBay VF. It's still a pretty nice book (and I didn't even pay the VG price, so all's good).
  15. Finally joined a club I've wanted in on for some time... That's right - covers with P-40s on them.
  16. That Captain Midnight is really nice Speedy.
  17. I tried to make the Star Trek reference back on page 2, but either no one got it, or it wasn't funny. I'm guessing the latter. I got it, and thought it was funny. But there were forty more posts by the time I saw it. You were just before your time.
  18. Here's a 1947 Australian edition of Four Color #29: and here it is beside a normal Dell issue for a size comparison:
  19. Flickus flackus fumdeedledum, which means 'to the true collector goes the nicest books'.
  20. Allow me to be the first. I love my Uncle Scrooge #60 signed by the good duck artist.
  21. One of my wife's favourites. She calls it the 'OMG cover'.
  22. Mine has a similar but smaller tear:
