  1. I really hope this is good. I have very high hopes for it from the trailer & since WW was easily the best part of BvS.

But this is also DC's last chance for me after all 3 movies so far being lackluster to passable, but nothing good yet. If this doesn't at least let me leave the theater having enjoyed myself, DC's releases all are going to the "I'll wait for Netflix" category.

I feel the same way. I didn't HATE BvS or SS, but they were just ok. And there's too many actually good movies I want to watch out there to keep wasting my time and money at the theatres. WW is the last hope...

:roflmao: The trailer does look really good but we all know how they take everything out of context. I love that secretary/slavery bit though. :cloud9: Priceless.
  2. Yes. Marvel & Netflix, according to everything they've said publicly, at least up thru Defenders, are going to be sticking with their current 2-per-year release schedule. Defenders is likely late 2017 & Iron Fist early 2017. Now, that might change after Defenders, but from everything they've said in interviews (both Loeb and the spokespeople from Netflix) is that they have no intention of going beyond 2-per-year thru 2017.

Now, that of course might change.

And it's pretty obvious that phase 2 of the Marvel Knights/Defenders/Neftlix stuff is GOING to require an accelerated release schedule to satisfy the actors (they don't wanna sit around and doing nothing while they wait for THEIR series to get back into production) especially since they've expanded the line with Punisher, likely going to expand it to Moon Knight and/or Daughters of the Dragon (depending on the reception of Misty and Colleen in Luke Cage & Iron Fist, respectively) and probably going to need to start merging currently-solo series into team-up series (Luke/Danny/JJ in a Heroes for Hire show most likely) otherwise, there's going to be too much of a gap between seasons & they might lose their momentum as they expand.

But as of now, yes... 2 or 3 of those series are definitely not until 2018.

That really sucks. I was hoping to see DD 3 next year. The fact that they're only having an 8 episode Defenders season 1 & skipping over most of the other series next seasons isn't very comforting. Sure, they could merge JJ, LK & IF into a Hero for Hire series to make things run more smoothly but pushing DD & Punisher back is really disappointing.
  3. Did anyone else find Jessica Jones a little boring?

Almost like they are trying to stretch out a thin story?

I'm about halfway through and feel this way.

Maybe DD was more acceptable because I kind of knew where they were going with it?

So far not very impressed with JJ, although I do find Kilgrave creepy as heck.

Totally agree. They didn't even give her a 2nd season this year, which pretty much says it all. The best part of JJ was Luke Cage IMO. Can't wait to see season 1.

They didn't give DD a 3rd season next year either. 2nd & 3rd seasons are all on hold until they take care of the Defenders set-up and execution because they had already pushed Luke Cage, Iron Fist & Defenders back to add a 2nd season of DD. But a 2nd season of JJ is already announced, as well as a 3rd season of DD. I don't think the timing of a season 2 is indicative of their opinion on the quality or the audiences reaction, since it DID get a season 2. But just that Marvel wants to get to Defenders & doesn't want to push it off another 6 months, since they appear dead-set on sticking with the 2-series-per-year release model for the time being.

Next year I thought we're suppose to get Punisher, Iron Fist, Defenders, JJ 2 & DD3!!! You're saying 3 (Punisher, JJ 2 & DD3) of those 5 will be pushed till 2018?

  5. Okay, so...saw it this afternoon. Mild spolers ahead (mostly tagged).

It was fine. Mediocre, like Thor 2 or X-Men 3.

Better than Ghost Rider and Jonah Hex, and it was far less offensive than BvS (in terms of missed opportunities, because the stakes here were far lower).

But it was a huge missed opportunity, a la Spider-Man 3.

    I Loved:

    - Amanda Waller (although Viola Davis is always amazing -- i.e., How to Get Away With Murder)

    - Will Smith, and Deadshot's characterization

    - The first 1/2 hour (rock solid up until the second scene w/ the Enchantress)

    - Diablo's characterization

    - Boomerang's characterization (least annoyed I've ever been by Jai Courtney, save Jack Reacher)

    - Katana

    - Mid-credits' sequence

    I Hated

    - The villains (Tia Carrere did the same thing so much better in Kull)

    - The zombie people (seriously - straight out of the House of the Dead 2 video game)

    - The constant music (some good song choices and riffs, but ugh...)

    - The entire last 45 minutes.

    - Was Scott Eastwood even in this? So much for my "he must be Deathstroke" theory. Didn't even see him.

    Specific Stupid mess:

How does Deadshot's daughter prevent him from killing

    Batman

? I mean, we _literally_ just saw him kill a guy with a bank shot, and he can't manage a similar one at point blank? Esp. when we later see that killing him is now his most fervent wish??

    - When they're in the bar, why does Harley go check the mirror to see

    if her detonator's been deactivated

, when hers alone had already been *and she knew it* just two scenes earlier?

    - What was up with Killer Croc gratuitously speaking in ebonics? Great character up until the start of the underwater scene, and then he suddenly becomes as stupidly racist as JarJar Binks. WTF?

    - While I enjoyed El Diablo's monologue in the bar, folks in my theater found it so corny they started laughing toward the end.

Overall, it was just...meh. Maybe two stars, but def. not Catwoman bad. Wish I'd had a 3rd beer before going in.

It's just frustrating, cuz it could have been great, as we saw with the likes of

    - Guardians of the Galaxy (motley crew of unknown comic characters)

    - Deadpool (that, with its hard R rating, at least had the courage of its convictions)

    - Any of the last three Mission: Impossible movies

So in the end we just get disposable entertainment, fun for a slow summer's day, but ultimately forgettable, a la X-Men Apocalypse or Jack Ryan.

Also, while Margot Robbie was certainly fun to look at and did a decent job, she didn't do crazy even as well as Mia Sara did as Harley 12 years ago in the otherwise-god awful Birds of Prey.

Seriously - Mia Sara's portrayal of Quinzel (and, in the last episode, Harley Quinn) had just the right touch of truly scary psycho. Not Robbie's fault this time, so much as the writer's (and maybe the PG-13 rating) but could have been _so_ much better.

Scott Eastwood was one of the soldiers. Rick Flag's right hand I guess. He didn't really stand out, but did had a few lines though.
  6. I don't hate DC movies, but all of you have to admit that the 1st beginning Marvel movies were Juggernauts.(Yes some of the later ones were only so so)

The 1st beginning DC movies were just dudes so far. I will reserve my opinion on SS until I see it.

Marvel simply told their stories better at the beginning. I am routing for JLA and others like TT.

Can DC just lighten it up some? Marvel did it with Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America why cant DC do it? You want to appeal to a larger audience then just us. Have some humor for Christ's sake, throw some inside jokes in there is it really that hard.

Marvel's first 3 movies were (along with domestic box office):

    Iron Man $318 million

    Incredible Hulk $134 million

    Iron Man 2 $312 million

How were any of them juggernauts? I think you are looking at Marvel's current success and thinking all their movies made bank. They didn't. The next two movies, Thor and Captain America didn't set the world on fire either:

    Thor $181 million

Captain America: The First Avenger $176 million

It wouldn't be until Avengers, Marvel's 6th cinema universe movie that they started making a lot.

I suspect Suicide Squad will make more domestically than Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America even when they are adjusted for inflation. In the first week alone it might pass all 3.

Marvel's first big hit was The Avengers after they were acquired by Disney. Just imagine if WB didn't own DC, had a tighter budget & was split among multiple studios like Marvel. I don't think their movies would be doing as well as they currently are under those circumstances either.

Had Disney bought Marvel back in the late 90's, things would have turned out very differently. DC hasn't had the same handicaps & their superheroes have been well know worldwide for many years. On the other hand, Suicide Squad like GOTG, was virtually unknown to the general public. It will be interesting to see how well it does & seems to be off to a great start.

It really doesn't matter how many movies DCEU or MCU has under their belt, it's the quality of the movies that are important. If DC came out with just 1 movie that blew The Avengers out of the water, there would be no question of quantity. Since they haven't, it's the same old excuse that the DCEU is just starting off. That is BS, IMO DC has all the factors to make things work & they just haven't done it as well as Marvel yet.

I enjoyed Suicide Squad much more than BvS & even though I have the ultimate edition, after about 10 mins of watching it, I started to pass out. I just couldn't muster up the focus to spend 3 hours to see the 30 mins of deleted scenes. Maybe down the road some time. I would certainly watch Suicide Squad again though & since IM 1, I've watched most Marvel films multiple times.

I've even seen Man of Steel at least 2 times, but seeing BvS 2 times in theaters has soured me on the film I guess, as I generally prefer watching superhero movies at home after they're released on DVD/BluRay. I only saw Civil War once in theater & I'm anxiously waiting to watch it again at home.

  7. I enjoyed it.

I'm wondering if this show could be like true detective, having a new cast & story for each season though. I think that would be a cool idea. Besides, it felt like the story was more or less complete by the end. Not sure where they would go from here.

  8. I believe it would take at least 4 Spider-Man movies to do the symbiote/Venom/Carnage justice.

1.Parker fights random villain, Brock is a bully/rival, Kasady is a background character.

    2. Parker gets black suit and fights another major villain, shames Brock, Brock becomes Venom at the end, Kasady still a background character

    3. Entire movie of Spider-Man vs Venom, Kasady is now in prison

    4. Brock breaks out of prison, Kasady gets Carnage symbiote, Venom an Spider-Man team up against him

    5. Most of this has been done already. They can't find a better storyline?

You don't know what most means. Yes Venom was done, horribly. This works rather well, we shall see how it goes

I had a similar reaction to that post too. Outside of Venom, nothing on that last has been done.

If they went a slow burn on Venom/Carnage I'm all in. If they rush it... Not so much.

lol You still talking about the film here? rasta.gif
  9. From the Australian article where those photos originated, there were some interesting budget details.

It’s a Marvel in the making as Thor: Ragnarok’s ‘majestical’ universe rises on Gold Coast

As these first images of one of the many Thor: Rangarok sets being built on the lot at Village Roadshow Studios confirm, the Gold Coast is about to be transformed into a world worthy of a galaxy of Marvel heroes and villains.

Principal photography on Marvel’s Phase 3 Thor sequel, Thor: Ragnarok, the biggest movie to be made in Australia this year, will begin on July 4 and continue until at least the end of October.

While the budget for the third Thor outing is yet to be revealed, it’s expected to be somewhere around the $350 million Disney spent on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Thor: Ragnarok is forecast to spend more than $100 million of its budget in the Sunshine State and employ 750 Queenslanders as crew.

Marvel executive David Grant says “lots” of locals will get an opportunity to be involved in the production.

“Hundreds and hundreds of local folk — as many as we can possibly get while we are there,” he says.

    :o

This sounds like it is going to be a HUGE movie! And there are spaceships too.

Production crew members have been going hammer and tongs for the past few months to get the film’s epic array of props, costumes and sets, said to include several spaceships, ready for July 4.

The State Government helped fund the new $16 million 4000sq m Sound Stage 9 on the Oxenford studio lot, with construction fast-tracked to ensure it was ready in time for Thor.

    :whee:

Wow, if they're spending $350M on Ragnarok, Infinity War could actually cost Disney as much as $500M for each film. I wouldn't think they'd be willing to spend more than Civil War cost. I can see this being another billion dollar film at the box office though.

The 3rd installments of their stand alone films have exceeded the gross of their 2 predecessors so far & cost much less to make (IM 1, 2 $340M gross $1.209B, IM 3 $200M gross $1.215B) (Cap 1, 2 $310M gross $1.085B, Cap 3 $250M gross $1.145B+).

    Thor might be the exception here (Thor 1, 2 $320M gross $1.0939B Thor 3 $350M??? gross $1B+/-???).

  10. I'm of the opinion that if Cletus Kasady does make an appearance, it will just be as the crazed lunatic, to set up the Venom/Carnage duo in future films.

This is what I am hoping they are planning. It just doesn't make sense otherwise.

Or rather, it wouldn't be true to the storylines we all know. Making a film with just using a character and using a completely different storyline is their prerogative. They own the character, they can do whatever they feel like.

Well we do know that they like to mess with the Marvel comic continuum based on how Ultron was presented as a Stark/Banner/Strucker creation rather a Pym creation. I don't think they will go that route with Carnage though. Besides, they already have some main villains in the film between Vulture & the terrible tinkered. I think there will be a lot of set up for future Spidey films in this one though. I can see Parker having Amadeus Cho as a rival class mate for example. Just small things that will be built upon over the course of the new franchise. I expect they will want to make at least 6 Spidey films with Holland (especially since he's in the MCU now) & he's the perfect look/age for a 12+ year commitment as Spidey. They can have 2 - 3 Spidey films where he's in high school & then another 3 - 4 with him in college.
  11. Spider-Man: Homecoming Adds Silicon Valley Star Martin Starr

    spidermansiliconvalley-186283.jpg

Spider-Man: Homecoming is on a roll lately in regards to castings. Just a few days ago Donald Glover reportedly joined the heavily anticipated superhero film. He’s closely followed by Silicon Valley actor Martin Starr (according to Deadline).

The actor's role has not been announced as of this time, but he joins a packed cast including Tom Holland (Spider-Man/Peter Parker), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man/Tony Stark), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Michael Keaton (The Vulture), Zendaya, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi, and Tony Revolori.

I like him on Silicon Valley.

    lol

I love Silicon Valley. Looking forward to learning more about Starr's role in Homecoming.
Here's a hilarious scene from last weeks episode:

  13. Or a Wild Dog!

Arrow Season 5 Vigilante Revealed As Wild Dog

    arrow5wilddog-186171.jpg

After weeks of mystery the new vigilante in Arrow has been revealed as Wild Dog with Rick Gonzalez playing the role.

The character first appeared in Wild Dog #1 in 1987, making him one of the first new superheroes created following Crisis on Infinite Earths. Created by Road to Perdition writer Max Allan Collins, "his super power is guns."

Star athlete Jack Wheeler went to college on a football scholarship, but had to drop out and become a mechanic after an injury forced him off the team and he couldn't afford tuition. Before working as a mechanic, though, he enlisted for a tour of duty with the U.S. Marines, only to see most of his friends killed by a terrorist bomb. After returning home, he fell in love...but the woman he was in love with was gunned down in a seemingly-random shooting, later revealed to be a hit because her father was a reputed mobster. Wheeler snapped and became Wild Dog -- a vigilante beloved by the public for "cleaning up the streets" but wanted by the police for his brutality.

The football mechanic part is identical with Jefferson 'Jax' Jackson's story in Flash.
  14. Hes too old to be spider-man. Black or white.

32 is too old to spider-man.

I think it's definitely possible to include Miles as an older Spider-Man-type character without actually giving him the main mantle.

In fact, I love the idea. I know it's not true to the comics, but what if Morales had been acting as his own version of Spidey behind the scenes for awhile and comes out of the shadows to mentor Peter somehow?

I don't know, that seems so cool to me.

The problem with that is Iron Man is suppose to be Spidey's mentor in the film. It could just be that they gave him a part as a tribute to Morales of sorts but actually have no connection to him in the story-line. Besides, didn't Sony or Marvel say that they have no intention of bringing Morales to the big screen a while back? I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.
  15. Yes!

Is Sharon Stone Playing the Original Wasp in Ant-Man 2?

Last month, actress Sharon Stone dropped quite the big bombshell on CBS' The Late Late Show with James Corden, revealing that she has in fact signed on for a small role in an upcoming, yet unidentified Marvel movie. She said on the late night talk show that she couldn't speak about her character, due to confidentiality agreements, but now the actress has dropped another big hint about her role. We still don't know what movie she's appearing in, but these new details may hint that she's joining Ant-Man and the Wasp.

The 58-year-old actress was recently part of a profile piece by AARP, along with Alfre Woodard and Jane Fonda. While the piece largely centers on how these actresses are still going strong into their twilight years, they did reveal one tidbit about Sharon Stone's mysterious Marvel character. Here's an excerpt from that article below.

"Woodard and Stone are about to become very familiar to the highly sought-after comic book film crowd: Woodard's character is a villain in Marvel's anticipated Netflix series Luke Cage; Stone has been cast as a superhero - she'll only reveal that her secret power is heat - in a yet-to-be-named movie, also for Marvel."

First Robert Redford in Cap2. Then Michael Douglas in Ant-Man. Now Sharon Stone. No matter the age or portfolio, stars are lining up.

    :whee:

It says her superpower is heat, so she won't be playing the Wasp. I can actually see her in the role of Captain Marvel, but I know that won't happen. I heard that her role is small & I think there's a good chance she'll be Abigail Brand, the head of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department).
