  1. I swear, boxing it up before payment is a jinx ! Definitely, take it out of the bag for better clarity. When taking your pics, slightly angle the book until the glare is gone.
  2. I think the problem is your pictures. The glare of the Back cover pic makes the book look terrible. The only close pic you take, other than the label, sees you focus on a location showing a spine tic and a spot of stain. I'm sure, in hand they are not that dramatic but your pic makes them look large. It's an expensive book. Post the graders notes, get some better pics. If you can't do that, put it in auction. It's a great book, very desirable. Don't panic. Good luck !
  3. Actually, the Mighty Con is a pretty good show. Unless the dealers from Kenosha invade it .
  4. LOL. Maybe, but I didn't know them. I went to that small show up in Kenosha last Sunday. If it wasn't for John Hauser, I would have probably left empty handed. Even the small dealers are jacking up their prices. I saw normal, non variant books priced for 10 bucks that just came out that week. I saw uber low graded Silver priced at Fine prices. As mentioned, I saw poorly pressed Fine books asking VF prices. It was a scary sight.
  5. I'm not necessarily collecting LB Cole. I've just started to pick up a few when they are offered and it's easy to get hooked. That being said, yes, I could part with them. What's interesting to me about collecting PCH and even GA, is the eye appeal seems more important than the technical grade. However that, and the rarity factor, makes ascertaining FMV difficult. If you asked me to price them the only thing I would have to go on is what I paid. Normally, I would say PM me and we can talk but the usual discussions about grade and price may be difficult. Maybe the best thing is I bring them to the next local show and you can evaluate. I'm sure you know more about this genre than me.
  6. Honestly, it's in really bad shape, with lots of 'dangling' spine splits. Between shipping and handling I would be concerned about something falling off. Under no circumstances would I risk pressing this book. You didn't mention if you wanted to keep or sell the book. If you are keeping it, why spend the money ? If you want to sell it, then as others have stated, do the math.
  7. If a Board transaction reaches 30 days without fulfillment, we can nominate them for probation. Hence, I assume 30 days is a reasonable limit. What about an auction house ? Specifically, from the time I respond to the invoice to 30 days later the order is still Pending/Not shipped, is this not unreasonable ? Should I be able to say 'forget it', cancel my order ? BTW, we are talking about books sold in auction, not BIN's awaiting shipment from the consignor. No hurricane related delays either. I'm about to contact my CC company. Opinions please. Thanks.
  8. Make sure you check the printings on the Walking Dead TPB's. To be honest, this collection sounds like a bunch of common drek. No reason to get excited, overpay, or travel to see it.
  9. That would cause other problems. Listing flaws on the label would be the 'kiss of death' for many books.
  10. How does one ascertain that he knows what he is doing with a press? And how do you define 'good results' ? This thread scares me. Most of you seem to think the most difficult part of pressing is buying the right machine and locating the ON button. IMO, 'good results' are obtained if you cannot tell the book was pressed. I'm seeing so much product out there that looks obviously pressed, squished spines, unusually flat surface, etc. A dealer at a small local con had a small collection of Silver that he obviously pressed. The books were very dirty and he pressed all the dirt into the books. They looked terrible but he thought he did a marvelous job. Scary. Continue on.
  11. Actually, that a pretty minor tear, it would not bother me. However, it can get worse in the slab. I would store it flat to lessen the effect of gravity on the tear and don't play catch with it !
  12. This would be a difficult question to answer even with a pic. Without a pic, forget it .
  13. You really need to show us a large scan, not a hazy pic. It does look pristine though but as others have stated, all it takes is a fingerprint.
  14. BTW, I love these Supergirl Artgerm Variants. I don't think it is possible for anyone to definitely call a 9.8 from these pics. If you have to have a 9.8 then buy one already slabbed OR submit your book with a larger group in a 9.8 prescreen.
  15. The fact that the issue printing was different than what you thought is on the website before the book is even graded. That's on you. Part of the logic behind not posting grades until the book is shipped is CGC wants you to have the book in hand and see the notes provided before calling and challenging the grade. I think this policy makes sense and I don't think a change will be forthcoming.
  16. Realize that by having such a low tier of 3K, it automatically puts Heritage out of the running. Folks don't list low priced books on Heritage. I'm sorry, I just don't think this poll is going to prove anything. Let's say Comiclink wins, what do you extract from that ? Does it mean Comiclink is the best auction house ? I think Heritage fans would challenge that. I noticed the poll does not have much participation either. With so little data, I don't see the results being pertinent at all. Sorry. I applaud the attempt but I don't think it's working.
  17. I was affected as a buyer. I agree with your comments about the consignors. In fact, I think they should relist all the books after the problem occured. I know I couldn't even log in to the site for a while, finally giving up and coming back much later. When the site locked up, I'm sure they lost a lot of bidders that walked away and maybe never returned that night. Any consignors with books after the problem was fixed should not be happy.
  18. I did see that long crease but it has all the characteristics of a bindery crease = CGC lets it slide in this grade range. The large scan makes those spine ticks look worse than probably in hand. I've seen 9.2's with that many small spine ticks on a dark cover. That back corner crease is the biggest obstacle but books get an 8.5 with a corner crease that size. The Boards grade tougher than CGC. I still say CGC is capable of giving this an 8.5. Maybe we will find out if the OP submits.
  19. Unless there is something hidden, I think it is at least 8.0, maybe even 8.5 . Looks very fresh. Nice book !
  20. It may depend on if the knife left any scratches ? I would have tried with a dry cloth first or maybe even an eraser.
