  1. Glass, first off congrats on both the 'discovery' of this great book and the sale. Also, you did well choosing Bob Storms as your agent, no need to defend that decision. I think I'm just stirring the pot a little here, expounding on some of the financial comments being made. IMO, it's never wise to discuss the specific financials of a transaction, especially on a public forum. Whether it's GPA, the IRS, or the Russians you don't want them to know. I hope you consider this in the future.
  2. So you are saying Bob is open to taking a cut from his commission fee ? Interesting. I never thought of asking for this. Good info.
  3. The way you stated the comment about 'It will never be on GPA' seems to imply you feel this is a good thing ? I don't really care but many here feel reporting sales is important. Also, if George (the 'G' in GPA) is reading this, he can now choose to report your sale, after all, you verified it.
  4. Are you sure Greg reports ? Maybe with sales directly off the website but I don't recall ever seeing my convention purchases being reported.
  5. I don't think sending a book to the other company would change the census. How would CGC even know ? I think your second scenario is more probable.
  6. Got some cool 10 centers today, presented to you Greggy Style......
  7. Just brought these home today. Listed for you to view Greggy Style.......
  8. I'm glad you now realize some of the challenges with submitting books. You may want to consider submitting just a few books, maybe the 3 lowered numbered ones you mentioned and see how it goes. You can submit in a lower (cheaper) tier. It will take longer but patience is a virtue in the submitting game. As you previously pointed out, even if they don't grade out high, at least there is value in the lower numbered books. The higher numbered books will probably need a higher grade to justify submission. Through the submission of the lower numbers you may learn a little more about grading. Lots of decisions, lots to learn, no easy button.
  9. If the staples are on the vertex of the spine, can you see staple rust ? Can you see the side of the book from a scan. Can you see a spine split ? These are two conditions that can happen while in the slab. Tears can get worse, grow in size. A chip can fall off. So many things are not in the notes or can get worse in the slab that cannot be ascertained from a scan. What gives you the right to call other people's opinions 'nonsense' Are you that much better than the rest of us ? Are you on top of the mountain looking down at us. You obviously have a high opinion of yourself, and never acknowledge anybody else's opinion. Do me a solid and at least stop with the derogatory, demeaning comments when in discussion.
  10. It is a very nice 2.0 but I would not consider pressing this book. Too many dangling chips ready to fall off, much too delicate. AF15 is so valuable that everyone is tempted to squeeze out a slightly higher grade. It doesn't always work out.
  11. You have always stated, and I agreed with your point, that environmental conditions can affect the PQ of a book in the slab. Why, besides being shaken to death in the slab, would environmental conditions also not affect the structural integrity of the book in the slab ? Depending on the quality of the encapsulation, books can suffer staple tears. staple pulls, enhanced creasing, heck gravity alone is taking it's toll on the book. The graders assign the grade with the book in hand at a certain point in time. Do you not think that handling, especially encapsulation, shipping, etc. cannot change that grade ? And regarding your comment on grader's notes, many books don't even have notes. Again, you are just too selective with your arguments to enable anyone to give credence.
  12. Again, why do you attack Page Quality as loosey goosey, can change in the slab, etc. and accept the grade as assigned ? Trust me, the grade can also be loosey goosey and 'deteriorate' in the slab also. BTW, the grade is NOT subject to a visual confirmation as the unseen interior can greatly affect the grade also.
  13. Long before CGC existed, I acquired about a dozen Mohawk Valley raw copies. They were bought through CBG ads = not in hand when purchasing. Though structurally pretty nice, the interiors were literally an orange color, not supple, very dry. I heard they were stored in a bedroom closet. I did not like them and eventually moved them . I think I kept one exceptionally nice one, an Aquaman #1 and eventually submitted it to CGC. It looked at least 9.0 but got a 7.5 from CGC with CR/OW . I called them about the grade and was told the problems were all interior. IMO, if CGC gives a book a CR/OW, it probably deserves it, no doubt about it. Can CGC waver between OW/W and White on any given day, absolutely. Does this mean CGC is 'grossly inconsistent' ? I think not.
  14. So you don't believe in CGC's opinion on Page Quality calling it grossly inconsistent. Yet you firmly believe in their opinion on grade. Combine this with your selective 'data' to back your claims and your statements have no credibility. Do you ever notice that when you bring this same silly argument up, you stand alone. Nobody ever backs you.
  15. I think it's 5 or 6 dollars per reject but not sure on magazines. I think it's at their discretion depending on what percentage of book pass. Regarding the Walkthough tier, there is MINIMUM charge of 80.00 per magazine (150.00 on a comic book). Also, there is no Prescreen for Walkthrough.
  16. Yes, prescreen would be a good option. Remember, they do charge something nominal for the rejects = you should still get approximate grades on your books going in. I would definitley go higher than 7.5 for the prescreen. Look at E-Bay sales on this title and see what brings in decent money. I'm thinking a minimal of 9.0 but that's just a hunch guess. Double check, as I seem to recall you cannot prescreen magazines but hopefully I am wrong on that. Don't choose walkthru on these. Too expensive.
  17. First, you need to ascertain the FMV of each book. Knowing that will enable you to choose the proper CGC tier to submit your books in. To ascertain FMV, you will need to assign a grade to each of your books. I would only advise sending in the higher grade books else, you are correct, you will be losing money. If you don't know how to grade, I would advise getting somebody trustworthy to help you. Good luck.
  18. I did not know they are air tight, are you sure about that ? I thought the off gassing required a little breathing room.
  19. Great looking book. I love that date stamp. Very crisp with red ink. Please don't smear that date stamp by getting it worked on. It would be so sad.
  20. That's a big color breaking crease. I don't think a press can do anything with that, regardless of the cover stock. If you 'need' a high grade, I wouldn't bother submitting this book. Sorry. Edit: Look at the inside of the front cover. I suspect that crease may be a tear.
  21. Not sure what you mean by guarantee but CGC has been known to fall behind. Check the website for current turnaround times. BTW, you may have heard there was a hurricane down there and they had to evacuate = they are probably behind.
  22. Years ago Matt Nelson would set up at cons and for a nominal fee he would look at your raw books. I think the objective was to see if your book was improvable but he would look for resto. I remember once using it for the exact situation you are talking about, getting it checked for resto before purchasing it. It would be nice.
  23. This is true. It would be too easy to abuse the service by administering resto after CGC looks at it.
