  1. Agreed, see my other example above, Treasure Chest. It is subtle and I only noticed it because I was interested in the book.
  2. Pressing is now acceptable to most in our hobby. I think spine realignment, a very aggressive form of pressing, is generally not accepted. However, I think spine realignment is applied more often than realized, it's just not talked about, a very hush hush technique. Here is an example of a book purchased on the Boards. Soon afterward the book is again offered on the Boards, pressed by a well respected presser, obviously with spine realignment. ....
  3. Spine realignment is the devil's work...................
  4. I think they are literally scraped off. Personally, I hate the look of scraped off color touch. It would bug me more than the CT.
  5. Sorry, maybe you need to phrase your question differently but it sounds like you are masking a question about pressing. We do NOT need another discussion about pressing. Please do not 'stir the pot'.
  6. Just bought a book from Greg, perfect transaction. Great communication, fast shipping, and safe packaging. I would not hesitate to buy again. A+++++
  7. This is an old thread that was resurrected. Still very relevant. I have been using a large gun safe for going on 15 years with no problems. As mentioned above, I have an Eva-Dry inside the safe and run a dehumidifier during the warm weather. As an extra 'check' I have about a dozen, clean staples sitting open in an ashtray in the safe. I monitor them for any signs of rust and they have stayed clean. I originally had a goldenrod but I do not like it. I just don't think heat inside the safe is a good approach, also too much fluctuation. I have both raw and CGC slabs inside the safe along with the obligatory hand grenades(a reference to comments above). If you are going to purchase a safe, don't spare the cost. Buy a name brand, not a Costco special.
  8. I would like to give a little story associated with this book. This specific book was in my original collection when I started submitting to CGC, I submitted this book. A number of years ago I sold it. I just now, today, 10/01/2017 saw the book available for sale and recognized it was my original book, same cert. I kind of missed it so I purchased it. I thought it was about 10 years when I submitted it so I checked on CGC. The grade date was 10/01/2007, 10 years ago to the day.
  9. Interesting choice of flaws to dislike. Personally, I love date stamps and I seek them out. I do hate writing though. I like to see the staple on the front cover. It makes it easier to inspect for rust. Not too far away from the spine though as it affects eye appeal. I also hate Marvel chipping and I hate the fact that CGC is lenient on them. Bindery or not it ruins the eye appeal of the book. Exception: a white cover with underlying white pages eases the eyesore on moderate Marvel chipping. @OP question: 9.0/9.2 .
  10. The extra staple will affect the grade, it will not be ignored. It will effectively be downgraded for the two small holes going through the whole book. Don't remove the staple. It's possible (slim) it was a bindery accident.
  11. Only press if the book can be improved with a press. IMO, a quick press is worthless. Please don't ask us to recommend a presser. In poor taste to our Host.
  12. Totally concur. I grew up in the 60's and I am a huge Beatles fan. I agree that the Beatles seem to have the edge on Elvis. They wrote their own songs, their marketing blitz was bigger, and the fact that two of them are still alive and touring means a lot ! I know I will never sell off my Beatles stuff. Here's a link to some Beatles related slabbed books I own................ http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=898 My office is practically a shrine to the Beatles.....
  13. Actually, I've been told that Elvis, from a collectable standpoint, is starting to fade. I used to actively collect vinyl records and still communicate with lots of dealers. It appears that the Elvis generation is selling their stuff and there is a lot of product out there. Not there yet on the Beatles but in another 10 years ? A teenager in the 50's would now be in their 70's, pushing 80. They are not buying so demand is lower also.
  14. I think it will modestly be taken into consideration by the graders, however, I do not think they will be 'hammered'.
  15. Why don't you post a group picture here so we can get a better idea. Lay them out on a table, take a pic or two, and use the 'choose files' link below (next to the paperclip). I wouldn't expect price guide value for low grade Westerns and Dennis the Menace type books. Unless you have some desirable 'hero' type books in there, these will probably be a tough sell. Sounds like you have already shopped them around to be told they are not worth much. If so, I don't think you will fare much better here. Sorry.
  16. Bought it from a dealer . Same as you, I had never seen it and realizing how rare a high grade Blackhawk from 1955 is, I grabbed it.
  17. Don't mean to brag but seeing your #86 I had to use this opportunity to show off this freak of nature copy.......
  18. CGC goes easy on Marvel chipping because it is considered a production issue. The bottom left corner of this book has a large, maybe one inch square piece missing, definitely not production. Being so straight it looks like it was cut out ? I would not consider this mid grade or even 4.5 .
  19. I'm sorry but after seeing a number of posts by this new Boardie I have to wonder.
  20. Actually, I have heard of personal transactions being reported to GPA, some even from the Boards. I'd feel more comfortable with Board transactions than some of the 'fake' E-Bay sales being reported. And by 'fake' I mean transactions between different accounts of the same seller. It's just too easy to pump up phony sales on E-Bay and I don't think E-Bay cares as long as they get a fee.
  21. I don't think Glass said he's getting 50K, I think he said the book was sold for 50K, as in what the buyer paid. In that case, that is all GPA would need to know.
  22. I realize that. It was just a 'polite' way for me to show the poster his comment was out of line. I don't think the specific financials of this transaction should have been brought up in the first place and it is ridiculous that we are talking about it.
