  1. I'm sorry but all your posts are questions on valuation for books you want to buy. At some point I really think you need to do your own home work.
  2. Slightly concave ? Do not use these = they will warp the comics. I don't like top loaders for comics. Too easy to damage the book plus they are not sealed at the top.
  3. You are correct that the value you put on your book is reflected in the insurance CGC will charge you for shipping. However, the value of the book is also reflected in how much CGC charges for their services. The more expensive the book, the more they charge. If you were correct, CGC would simply charge a flat fee per book ? The tiers also reflect the turnaround time, the higher the tier, the faster the turnaround. You pay more for faster turnaround. I'm sure there was a misunderstanding in your original phone call. When you call ask them if you can put a 50K book in an Economy tier, as you originally claimed.
  4. There's a pretty long vertical reading crease along the spine. They don't like that.
  5. It's possible for the grade to change, even after leaving the grading room. Happened to me a couple times years ago. Also, not sure if this is true with the new slab design, but certain books were turned away in the encapsulation room if there was any chance of damage.
  6. Years ago, they used to tell you the grade immediately upon grading. However, this led to some problems and they now changed it to Shipped/Safe.
  7. This bothers me also. The designation 'Edgar Church' should be propietary. Terrible grading also. Look at ASM 102, big corner crunch, not 9.6 IMO. THis collection is only 27 books ? This is a joke.
  8. Since I'm not privy to your conversation with CGC, I can only say there must have been a misunderstanding. Look at the pricing structure for the different tiers. Economy is 38.00 per book, Express is 100.00, and Walkthru is 3 % maxed out at 5K. Do you really think CGC would be okay with you submitting a 50K book in an Economy Tier and only paying 38.00 ? I'm sure you were probably discussing books with smaller values, bordering between Value and Economy, something of that nature. They probably said whatever you are comfortable with is okay, no biggie. However, you cannot broad stroke that comment against all tiers . It's simply not true. I hope you don't apply this logic to your Federal Tax brackets ?!?
  9. You can submit into any tier you want but CGC will 'bump' you to the Walkthru tier and charge you accordingly. Maybe you got away with it on some lower valued books and tiers but no way will a 50K book go through a lower tier without being charged Walkthru rates.
  10. This change is so minor and insignificant that I really doubt they would be swamped with reholder requests. Unless, some would use this as an excuse to get e FREE Reholder to the new slab design. If a change were made, I think CGC could legitimately turn down a Reholder request to 'fix' the label on something like this. I realize this thread is more about the attitude of CGC rather than the actual change but I really think the change, for programming reasons referenced above, may not be as trivial as everyone thinks. Let's face it, CGC is generally not transparent, they keep secrets. I think the 'fact' that they are using some outdated legacy software is one of these secrets. They said NO, they offend one customer. That customer takes it to the Boards, gets a small reaction but they know it will blow over quickly. It always does.
  11. I have a feeling that the Publisher name is a key field on one or more of their databases. They can't seem to make changes to the Registry point values without going through a big effort for every change. They are probably using some legacy vendor software ala 1999 so who knows what kind of databases they are using. I don't think they would have said no unless the IT vendor told them it would be difficult. Not much benefit for such a minor 'typo' to spend the time or effort on.
  12. Yes, you never mentioned you had the option of getting your money back. Go get your money back. Now !!!!
  13. Here's my take on your question. In order to make it worth your while, financially, to ship/press/submit/ship this book it would have to get at least a 9.6 . If it gets a 9.4 you are close to even, 9.2 or less and you lose money. Now, that crease looks awfully big and deep, even if the rest of the book is perfect I'm not sure you will get a 9.6. Maybe but most likely not. If the press is not thorough and some of those other flaws remain, well you just experienced a complete waste of time and money. Your call but I would not submit.
  14. I wonder why there is resistance to a change on their database? Of course, physically, it can be done so there must be some ramifications. Perhaps it effects the census. Maybe there is a legacy database that still hasn't been converted. Maybe there is some legacy software that cannot be touched . I'm sure they were told by their IT support, probably vendor, that it cannot be done and their hands are tied. Or maybe the vendor gave them a ridiculous estimate to implement. From a cost/benefit standpoint it just probably isn't worth it.
  15. Regarding your comment about condition 'otherwise in good shape', I don't think so. They are both, regardless of the tape, in a very low grade. Removing the tape probably won't improve the grade. I wouldn't invest the time or money on trying to remove the tape or submitting to CGC, it just isn't worth it. These should be sold as raw Reader copies. I know this is not what you wanted to hear but just being honest. Sorry.
  16. Actually, I was not thinking of Schmell but it's a possibility he was the mystery dealer. I think the dealers like Schmell because he buys big books and spends a lot of money. However, there are some other 'dealers' that follow the same footsteps as Schmell that don't spend his kind of money, irritating many.
  17. That is definitely the same book as the 8.0 . That long color breaking crease on the bottom right should have held it at 7.5 ? It's a nice looking book, you should have kept it !
  18. But the important question is 'how many quotation marks' ?
  19. I'm not recommending that all CGC books be stored horizontally, no need. However, books like this, where gravity will take it's toll on the situation, I would store it horizontally. I've got, maybe, a dozen slabs stored this way. As you stated, storage is a problem.
  20. This is not a 'key' book. Assuming a 7.5, it's about a 125.00 book slabbed. You'll have to do the math but does the shipping and slabbing costs justify it ? IMO, it's not worth it.
  21. I have a good idea who the 'odd' dealer you are referring to may be ! Is it someone that doesn't have a booth, goes to all the major conventions, and is generally frowned upon by most real dealers that paid for booths ?
