  1. I see what you mean, especially the folded over chips. Maybe that's what happened to the big chip. This was really a terrible piece of work.
  2. The guy that pressed it didn't even see the chip come off ? If so, he should have saved it for you. I suspect it did not happen during the press but in handling, in or out of the bag and board. Your comic had so many spots that could snag. It should have been in an oversized bag and Board, maybe even a Magazine size to make access easier. I'm curious what Joey thinks can be done at this point ? Saliva ?
  3. Both Overstreet and CGC give it to #54. Get them to change and the marketplace will go along. Until then, the #60 side can argue all they want, it doesn't matter.
  4. I agree, very important points here. It's the last minute bidding that kills you and can lead to regrets. I now try to only collect for my personal collection and avoid the 'good deal' value plays as I find I regret those the most.
  5. Sole highest graded will always command the higher price. In general, you will find that subsequent 9.8's will sell for significantly less. Assuming this copy sells for 40K, if a couple more 9.8's hit the market, I think 20 -30K would be the range. It's even worse when the sole highest graded is eclipsed by a yet higher grade. Of course a movie or something of that sort changes the dynamics and 40K could seem cheap.
  6. It is widely accepted that Christopher Columbus did not 'discover' America yet he gets the credit and has the Holiday. We can argue all we want but the label on my BB54 says 1st appearance. When CGC contacts me and says give it back, then I'll believe in #60. For what it's worth I like the cover of #60 much better than 54.
  7. Ha, great minds think alike. I have considered it for onsite grading for that very reason. They are rushed and may miss it. Maybe I'll get a 9.8 this time !
  8. I know, I think it's just a more than one set of eyes scenario. On this particular book, I was told the finalizer saw something on the apex of the spine that the other two missed. I actually still own it but have never resubbed. Crapshoot if it would get a 9.6 or not = would they spot the flaw. I don't like to play the 'let's fool CGC' game anyway. BTW, I could never, with my own eyes see the flaw, even cracked it open.
  9. There is no rule book that we can look these scenarios up and advise you. The only answer anyone can give you is from personal experience. I've seen CGC note detached centerfold on the label for, what would have been, a higher grade book . I think they do that because it's not obvious. I remember getting a 6.0, on what would have been an 8.5 book. I don't think they note it on mid to lower grade books. This is the reason you will see a really nice looking 5.0 and wonder 'What the?'. Perhaps it was a detached centerfold. I've never seen a Green Label for a detached centerfold but perhaps you can get one on request. I suspect, in a mid grade, it will knock a 6.0 to a 5.0, 5.0 to a 4.0 type of range but that's just a guess. Unless the book is very low grade, the book will take a solid grade hit.
  10. Regarding calling CGC about the grading, I don't think it works like that anymore. I remember what you are talking about, you could call and discuss your book. They would even tell you what each grader gave your book. That's when I found out the opinion of the 'finalizer' is what counted. I remember calling and being told a grade scenario of 9.6, 9.6 final grade 9.0 . Now, you have to purchase the notes online. You pay and they E-Mail you the notes. The cost depends on how the book (what tier) was submitted. In your case I'm sure it would be 15.00 . Also, they no longer tell you the individual grades from each grader. The good ol' days are gone ! It's kinda why I said this book should not be resubbed. CGC can change their mind on anything, anytime.
  11. Let's call CGC to ask them what You have a great book here, I don't think anybody was dissing your book. Just a discussion of the label notes. Why are you angry ?
  12. Have you had any good experiences with your submissions ? Regarding the hiring of more graders I believe most would say that's a good thing. Turn around times were bad, everyone here was complaining, begging them to hire more employees. Now you are saying a quicker turnaround time is bad ? I'm sorry but I do think you are in the minority on this point. Pardon me for saying this but I've read some of your other posts and you have a really bad attitude, everything is negative, everybody is screwing you. Perhaps you should reflect upon this.
  13. First off, I've received some of these exclusive variants in the manufacturer Mylar and they often have a spine crease and/or blunted corners. There is no guarantee they are 9.8's as shipped .Why do you imply it was the fault of CGC handling ? Why is it $$$ in their eyes? Perhaps it's more like spine crease in their eyes ? Why do you feel entitled to get 9.8's just because the book came straight from the manufacturer ? Perhaps you need to learn how to grade and inspect the book before submitting it.
  14. Maybe you are right. To save any controversies, chances are both the grade and the Universal designation would stay the same. Still, I would not buy this book for the sole reason of an upgrade.
  15. NOBODY has said that flipping books is wrong ? If so, it was merely tongue in cheek. Not sure who you are debating with. The point trying to be made here is that flipping books and then coming here to brag about it is in poor taste. Too much E-Peen going on in this thread. Cool word that I just learned. @October
  16. Now this is an interesting question that got lost in the chatter. Years ago, I submitted to realize FMV on the many raw books I wanted to sell but now it's mostly for personal collection. From an estate planning standpoint, I think it's better to have your good stuff graded.
  17. Brian is right. The big boys aren't going to get on here and brag. You're going to get stories like I bought a book for 50 cents and doubled my money, the real exciting stuff. What's the point of this thread. Why limit yourself to comics. Did you make any money in the stock market today ? Let's start talking about our Net Worth. What was your grade point average in school ? Who's got the highest vertical leap ?
  18. That's funny. Yes, you win on post counts ! But seriously, do you really want to leave your post of making 19K on a single transaction ? Someone may tell your wife
  19. All mileage was obtained with an average of 16 ish MPG.
  20. This was the mileage of my 1998 Toyota 4 Runner when I finally traded it in last year.
  21. And I'm sure everyone here reported these phenomenal gains to the tax man. Bragging on a public internet site about unreported capital gains is very wise.
  22. Yes, all the stuff you mentioned is fine to talk and brag: highest graded, biggest hoard, most valuable, etc. However the details of how much you paid and what you sold it for should be private. I have never asked anyone, family or friends, what their net worth is and I don't want to know.
  23. This is a terrible idea for a thread. Financials should be kept private. Why don't you start a who's got the biggest thread also. Nothing positive can come from bragging about flips.
  24. First off, I would wait until the hurricane challenge is over. Express is fine. Some may even suggest a lower tier and let CGC bump you if they see fit. Nice find in your personal stash ! Good luck and let us know how it graded.
