  1. Yes, the night before was margarita night but I thought the exchanges were 'okay', there was no arguments or name calling, the 'usual' suspects when a thread disappears. I think the thread was gone the next morning. I assumed CGC got tired of the critique on their grading. Do you know what happened ?
  2. Funny but true. I think some of us are getting into trouble from just hanging around with you in certain threads. I really miss the 'Is grading strict currently' thread. It is still gone, right ?
  3. I think you are right but apparently they have, in house, invented a new meaning for the word ! I know I would be confused if I saw this term in notes. This is a classic case of the engineer using terms the layman cannot understand. Perhaps if they said something like 'canvass like texture' instead of canvassing it would have been more appropriate.
  4. Sorry to disagree but the previous generation of slab was NOT tamperproof. I like to crack open many of my slabbed books for my personal collection and I got pretty good at opening the slab without any cracks showing. In hand, the telltale sign is the popped posts so it sounds like his example may have been switched. I'm not saying it happened, just that it is very possible. IN any case, you don't want to sell this book with cracked posts. If two posts are cracked you cannot simply reholder. CGC will probably require a regrade.
  5. I'm sorry but I am confused by part of your question. 'Would it be per indecent inside' ? As with all things CGC, the answer about scribble is, it depends. Scribble will be treated more harshly in higher grades than lower grades. 3 - 5 seperate incidents is a lot. There's not a general rule about this stuff. Each situation will be different.
  6. There's a lot to be said for that comment. I know I feel more flush, willing to buy comics, when the market is going well. There must be others like me ?
  7. Let me just say that the ONLY item in that long list that can be helped with a press would be the rippling/warping. Your book is an old label, graded a long time ago. In all honesty, with all that is going on with this book, 5.0 is a generous grade. You have a tape pull, rusty staples, stains, among many other flaws. You can show your book in the Please Grade My thread and see what others think but I think 5.0 is about right with no chance of 6.0 .
  8. I wish one of us had the notes so we could specifically ask CGC but this is a case of a guy who knows guy who knows a guy.
  9. The gathering of information is the traditionaI meaning of the word. It appears CGC has created a new meaning.
  10. Good for you. I'm glad they acknowledged nothing was wrong. Looking forward to seeing some more great books in that ASM 101 - 200 thread ! When's the next batch coming ?
  11. I think they give you some broad stroke explanation like Guidelines Violation. So much for learning from your 'mistakes'.
  12. Even CGC seems to be lenient on this issue. I don't understand this grade at all....
  13. I agree, this is NOT a 9.8 . I would return it. I would be suspicous of a switched book = not a genuine CGC product.
  14. As an avid former fan, I first gave up on the television program when Negan arrived. Too dark, too painful to watch. It just wasn't entertaining anymore. I have recently stopped buying the comic also. I have totally lost interest and I honestly don't miss it.
  15. Interesting. I have never seen this word in grader's notes. I hope someone else can give some information on this.
  16. Let me understand this. The interior is married. I assume the cover is detached. I assume the interior pages are detached and held on by tape. With the large piece missing it is probably Incomplete. There are stains, chips, chews, and writing. Are you guys grading it a Blue 1.0 or a Qualified 1.0 ?
  17. I don't know but he may be submitting his books to CCS for a review. They will recommend whether the book can benefit from a press. Strange use of the term canvassing. Never heard it before in relation to CGC or comic books.
  18. Clink still has the 9.2 sale listed on their site. The owner of the 9.4 should have asked them to take down the 9.2 copy. I'm sure it didn't help the sale.
  19. It sounds like you have some valuable books and you are better served putting them in auction. The BIN plan may see you lose out on some books because you 'guessed' wrong on the valuation. I remember listing a book with a BIN on E-Bay and it was gone in like 10 seconds and the buyer wanted more, similar books. I then realized I had made a mistake in the price. I still honored it but never again used a BIN. The non payers, retracted bidding, and excuses you will get on E-Bay will soon sour your positive attitude. But I sense you want to give this a try on your own so Good Luck.
  20. I agree with everything you said. Also, there is the fear of loss or damage to the book. Imagine if the Action #1 was encapsulated badly or suffered SCS during shipment. Finally, maybe he doesn't like his books pressed !
  21. Nice work ! I thought you were in California at Terry's ?
  22. I went through a similar scenario about 10 years ago when I retired. After selling a lot of my books, I soon got seller's remorse and started collecting again ! I also tried the E-Bay route and, trust me, it is a pain. At first it was fun but after a while, between the packaging, shipping, buyer's complaints, non payers, fees, etc. it became a grind, worse than a job. I would use an auction house and for a small fee, usually 10 %, they will take care of everything. It is soooo much easier. I also think you will see better selling prices.
  23. I believe you meant to say it would NOT hurt to try a few here.
  24. Does the interior of the cover, or the pages, have tanning ? A CGC designation of Light Tan would be a serious blow to the grade. It may be your pics but the book looks very dark and 'dirty'. Also, that vertical crease close to the spine that you mentioned is called a reader's crease and will severely affect the grade. I'm going to say 4.5 on this book. If there is no interior tanning, maybe a little higher 5.0 ish.
  25. I do think there is a premium with double covers, especially in higher grades, 8.0 ish and above. Yours sounds mid grade. I would take the 7.0 price and maybe add a percentage, maybe 50% tops.
