  1. Chris, cool book. That's highest graded !
  2. :hail: Ok, beautiful book. It looks like they have put "Mass Copy" on the CGC label. Just curious, how is that confirmed by CGC? For signature series, someone has to witness the signing. Anyway, wonderful book. I've told my Mass story in another thread but in the mid-90's I was fortunate to acquire about 4 long boxes of mostly BA Mass books. These were purchased over a number of years. The OO only wanted to sell in runs but I already had a BA run of Spidey so I passed. However, I did need an upgrade on my Spidey 129 and made a strong offer on just this one book from the Spidey run = it is my only Mass Spidey book. I started slabbing my collection about 3 years ago and documented my story when submitting Mass books to CGC. I remember waiting nearly four months for my first Mass submission as Mark Haspel made some phone calls, checked my story out, etc. CGC is very good about maintaining the integrity of pedigrees. An interesting side note, some of the runs went well in the later 80's but they stopped recognizing the pedigree somewhere around the early 80's. I like the last issues of titles and I submitted the last issue of G.I. Combat as a Mass but they would not recognize it, as well as some late Wonder Woman books.
  3. I've had this for years but newly slabbed, Mass Copy Spidey 129 9.6 White....
  4. Sorry to see you starting to exit the GL registry. You have some nice books! For the record, I still have the GL7 Winnipeg in CGC 9.2 OW/W. Raw pic below....
  5. A small two book submission from my collection. Grades right about what I expected with No pressing.
  6. Kudos to Rick aka ArAich. Rick sold me a raw book, packaged it well, and timely shipping. Though the book was as described, I did not like the page quality. Rick graciously accepted a return and refunded my money. Feel confident to deal with Rick, he is a stand up seller. Thanks.
  7. You're right, they have some good stuff with BIN's. Multiple copies of most issues. Wow ! Thanks for the heads up.
  8. I've had this for years but newly slabbed, Mass Copy Spidey 129 9.6 White, a lifetime keeper.......
  9. FYI, I just looked up the Top 20 Silver Age Books in the current Overstreet and Showcase 22 is listed at #16. In the 2008 Overstreet it is at #15 . In the 2007 Overstreet it is at #15. Apparently, SC22 has been a top 20 silver age book.
  10. Well, 4.0 copies with cream/off white pages are valued $1700-2000. Since this copy has off-white pages, I think it should be valued $2000-2200. But if it sells for above that, then it would be a record price. Showcase 22 has become the second most valuable DC Silver Age in terms of recent sales of 8.0 and under. (thumbs u I'm not saying that this price is aggressively out of whack (high, but not outrageously so) relative to recent sales; rather, I'm saying I outwardly have to wonder if this can continue upwards and onwards undeterred. In terms of selling price over the last year, we're close to tripling the sale price of VGs and up. The question I'm asking is, when does the correction come, and how drastic is it? Look at the history of other books with the same sudden run up.... TOS 39 , AF 15, Avengers 1 etc. I don't see any major correction on these books. You're fooling yourself if you think SC 22 will have a drastic correction.
  11. Not sure about a 9.2 (you may be correct) but a 9.4, easily an 80K - 100K.
  12. In my collection for 10 years but I just had it CGC slabbed. Just found out it is an 8.5 with White pages. Tough book in census with only one 9.6, one 9.4, zero 9.2, and eight 9.0's = only 10 higher than an 8.5 . It's interesting but with Marvels I desire the uber grades, but with DC, I am very happy with a respectable grade like this 8.5 .
  13. hey Bob, there's something strange about your copy. Is it the scan or are the letters "AMERICA" really gray on your copy? And look at Jonn Jonnz cape, is it also grey? no blue at all? I dont have a copy handy, but I seem to recall the letters being just CYAN/blue, without any black/grey plate at all. We discussed this a few pages ago...it's definitely missing the blues. I also posted a book that was missing blue and had weak reds. Looks like the guy watching the printing occasionally took a coffee break. I was there... read all that. What I meant was that while theres too little blue, I dont get why theres grey underneath the blue, especially in the logo. Thats a bright blue, almost 100 cyan. Your copy shows a mid grey. Almost like the grey was printed INSTEAD of the blue. THAT would be exceptional. Thats what Im getting at. unless its just a scan issue. Hmmm...I see what you're saying. Maybe early in the print run and then they noticed they missed the blue? I think we need someone who's an expert on how printing worked back then. I really have no clue. So maybe I have what they call a First Day issue in the coin world ?!? Seriously, it's an interesting theory. The book is in a Bank Vault so I cannot state for sure if it is a scan issue. I'll verify on my next visit to the Vault. well, I finally took a close look at my copy. And Ive solved the mystery as far as my questions were concerned. I still cant explain why your copy looks grey though. Im leaning on the bad scan solution though. But what I discovered is that the cyan/blue that DC used in 1960 was a darker richer cyan ink than what is used today. As such, the blue areas we see on BB28 are 100% cyan with NO black/grey ink nor magenta at all. Jon Jonzz cape, boots, pants, WWs hot pants, the word AMERICA are all just cyan. GLS greens and Aquamans pants are 100 cyan/100 yellow. No grey. The sky is all a cyan tint, no black ink. Starro's center star (around the magenta circles is a tint of just black. The rest of Starro is black and cyan tints. So, there's NO black/grey in any of the areas that are blue on all other copies. So your copy is either a special run (I highly doubt it) or just a bad scan probably from the scanner settings. Maybe a light is out? If you ever get to your vault and take a close look, Im still curious why yours appears grey though. Nice copy too! News Flash. I found an old digital pic of this same book and the Blues are there. I have no idea how this happened on my scan. I thought maybe it was a Photobucket issue but it was not. Stupid question but if my CYAN ink levels are low will this affect a scan, otherwise I never play with the color on a scan.
  14. Your book has excellent eye appeal. In general, CGC seems to hammer the grade on books with trimming though I did get one back with a 9.4 so it's hard to say. In 1989, resto was not an evil practice as it is today. The average collector was not on the lookout for resto. Today, most (including me) are paranoid about it. Welcome to the club.

  16. Awesome books, the Hawkman title had some great covers. This title gets no respect but it should, very undervalued.
  17. That`s a really nice looking book, I bet it would`ve gotten a really nice grade but for that big crease in the lower right corner. Thanks, yes the crease is the killer, 7.5 is the highest it could ever get with the crease. In hand the crease is not as prominent, the scan seems to magnify it. It has the eye appeal of a 9.0 . I bought it about 10 years ago as a 7.0 .I feel very fortunate to own it.
  18. Interesting book...a great copy but it appears to have been printed without benefit of blue ink. Reminds me of this one in my collection. Both should have light blue backgrounds. (Mine is also has very weak reds, which yours doesn't have a problem with) Never really noticed the lack of blue ink before. It doesn't have a faded look. This copy originated from Canada. Maybe that had something to do with it.
  19. Here's my entry to the club. It's in a CGC Blue Labeled 7.5 with WHITE pages. It's easy to pick up a 9.2,9.4 copy but try finding a copy with White pages ().
  20. I showed a raw scan a couple months back as my entry into the 'club'. It is now officially a CGC 5.0 OW. Very nice eye appeal but some staining kept it down.
  21. I showed this raw scan a couple months back as my entry into the 'club'. Not yet in hand but it graded a 5.0 OW Blue Label from CGC.
  22. not much talk lately .....so let me throw this out there...i have 4 copies coming back from cgc next week..and 6 more ready to sub soon...there are very few GPA sales to date...and the FORUM sales area seems slow lately....is it to everybody's benifit or is it bad to raise the gpa info on this book?....i can easily sell on ebay and the gpa will rise..or sell here for less/equal to ebay/paypal fees....and the price in GPA never changes.....?? GPA has few recent sales...a lot of "RAW" book have sold for record prices as well.......thoughts? keep the gpa down? or get the ball rolling..all these private sales are doing nothing for the stats.... I think you should sell wherever you get the best prices and not worry about GPA. It's interesting to note how out of date GPA is with this book. Though I realize there have been many private sales it appears many big name dealers are not reporting to GPA. I made a couple significant purchases in Chicago from two different big name dealers. Neither have appeared in GPA. ??
