  1. 'Not bad' ? I'd say it was a great price for all these hard to find books. You did well. Congrats.
  2. Not sure if you simply collect Plastic Man or just cool covers but that is a very cool cover. Congrats !
  3. I agree with your statement but you are going on strictly eye appeal. If the spine ticks and creases don't break color CGC seems to let them slide. However, get one miniscule hidden flaw and they hammer it. I suspect they consider some flaws irreversible whereas the NCB spine ticks, in theory, are not = they can be 'fixed'. Whether we agree with their grading criteria or not, they are consistent, which is important.
  4. Wow, that book is really WHITE. Great pickup. It will look good with the #1 you picked up. They both have the white background. Let us know, side-by-side, which is whiter and brighter.
  5. I've had my fireproof safe for over 10 years. I'm a page quality collector and I constantly spot check my books for any rust or PQ problems. Everything seems fine. As mentioned my safe is in the basement so the climate is always leaning on the humid side but safely within range because of my dehumidifier. In general, I think the pages like the humid air better as long as the air is on the cool side.
  6. Thanks for the update. I have been using the High Capacity Eva Dry in my fireproof safe for about a year now. I really like it, though I've only had to reharge it twice since getting it. My safe is in the basement and I have a dehumidifier going year round so maybe this helps. My dehumidifier has a digital display of the current humidity in the air. Interestingly enough, the humidity in the safe usually matches the humidity in the air exactly, leading me to conclude the humidity in the safe is influenced by the environment. I also periodically open up the safe and turn a fan on it = completely recycling the air inside the safe. It sounds like a lot of work but it really isn't. I consider it part of the curator responsibilities of having a collection.
  7. This book was voted the Best TTA Pre Hero Cover by the Boards last year. I know it's my favorite !
  8. I wonder if the bottom staple is detached at the FC only, looks a little suspect. BTW, a great submission, congrats.
  9. I think I have to disagree, I think 24 is the easiest of the 3 to find in nicer condition. +1 . The census bears this out. Looking at copies in 8.0 or above... Issue 22 has 10 copies, Issue 23 has 4 copies, and Issue 24 has 16 copies. Not dramatic, not plentiful but still more than 22 and 23 combined.
  10. DC had agreed to distribute no more than eight Atlas titles per month (which amounted to sixteen bi-monthly titles at the time) in 1957 when Atlas could find no other distributor which was probably a fallout from the Kefauver Senate hearings on the threat to the nation's youth poised by comics. I doubt, however, that the Incredible Hulk's cancellation was linked precisely to the desire to launch the Amazing Spider-Man. The title that gave way to the Amazing Spider-Man was none other than Amazing Fantasy. The timeline fits since with the cancellation of Amazing Fantasy Marvel had room for one more title. Moreover the last issue of the Incredible Hulk ran in March 1963 which was the same month that saw the launch of Amazing Spider-Man which would have amounted to a doubling up in that month. In 1958, 1959 and 1960, Independent News was distributing 8 titles per month for Atlas/Marvel. In June 1960, they began publishing 10 titles per month -- with the exception of December 1960 when no titles were released. 11 titles were distributed in June 1961, 10 titles in July and 12 titles in August. The numbers alternated between 10 and 12 titles (with the odd exception) until June 1963 when annuals pushed the monthly release to 15. The monthly numbers ranged between 11 to 16 until the end of 1965 (this is where my area of interest ends). We can see the numbers of books crept up slightly but books still needed to be cancelled in order for Martin Goodman to juggle the titles. ___________________________ Amazing Fantasy #15 was cancelled June 1962 and replaced in August 1962 with the return of Two-Gun Kid with issue #60. Note that these are newsstand distribution dates and not cover dates which post-dated the actual month of release by two or three months. Linda Carter, Student Nurse was cancelled with issue #9 in October 1962 and was replaced with Amazing Spider-Man #1 in December of 1962. The Incredible Hulk was cancelled with issue #6 in January 1963 and replaced in March of 1963 with Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos #1. Gunsmoke Western was cancelled with issue #77 in May 1964 so that Amazing Spider-Man could go monthly in July 1963 with issue #5. Images courtesy of the Grand Comics Database. Great information, thanks for sharing !
  11. And Michael has validated the performance of Bill Cole boards, they are good. Some others, not so good.
  12. Michael, great research and info. Mostly, I have always used Bill Cole mylars and boards, sensing that they were better for my comics. Thanks for validating.
  13. I seriously think I owned this very copy of ASM 35 as of a few years ago. It was in my collection for years and upon looking at it for possible CGC submission I saw the bleed. I also remember you could not see the CT from the Front Cover, at least I couldn't see it. I sold it (practically gave it away) with disclosure to a dealer.
  14. yup...I have had a few grades that changed and a few "can't slab them because of the overhang cover" not a lot but things can change and hopefully for the better. Most of the time it was for the better for me (thumbs u Yes, you are right about the "can't slab because of overhang" . It always happened on some of my better books, never on a PLOD () ! I heard they are better about that now and it hasn't happened to me for a few years.
  15. Should be in the same order as the invoice you submitted. Thank you! It isnt working now, it says "cert# not found in our database" but definitely good to know for the future. Looks like I'm waiting until Monday. Yes, per my post above it will not work until the books are marked as shipped. Also, when you call on Monday, be aware that the grades can change by the time the books ship. Though not often, it does happen. They are not official until shipped. Good luck.
  16. Should be in the same order as the invoice you submitted.
  17. That works if the books are in a Shipped status but not before. Remember the grades are not final until shipped. At this point they have probably not been encapsulated yet and they are not in the system to look up grades or enter into the registry. Good trick though, I've used it also.
  18. If you call tomorrow morn...you should be able to find out the grades. (thumbs u FYI, CGC is closed tomorrow, Dec 31st.
  19. That could be related as well Do you think a lot of this collection is going through the Economy/Value Tier ?
  20. Maybe it`s just me, but I don`t think it`s such a great copy. I was thinking the same thing. I recall your copy is really bright and the PQ is really nice. Very unique copy. Good memory. Yes, I am happy with my copy. It came from a small collection in Canada, submitted by me, CGC 7.5 White. Though they didn't get the uber grades most of the books from this collection had White pages. From this same collection I also have a JLA 3 in CGC 7.5 White, GL 8 in CGC 8.0 White, and an X-Men 2 CGC 8.5 White. Gotta love that cool Canadian air !
  21. Maybe it`s just me, but I don`t think it`s such a great copy. I was thinking the same thing.
  22. A small, two item submission. First time I ever opened the box without knowing the grades. It was fun and I got the grades I was hoping for. Life is good.
