  1. The 4.0 assigned appears to be an accumulation of defects rather than any one specific problem. I see a large color breaking crease, which alone keeps it 5.5 or less. There's a BC corner chip, some browning along the edges. Maybe some rust on the top staple ? A few tears, lots of color breaking spine creases. It probably gets to be a numbers game where the defects are added up and it's a 4.0 . I could see a 4.5 but no better. It's still a cool book with decent eye appeal.
  2. That has to be distributor spray ?!? No way the book gets a 9.0 if that's a stain. Either way it does not have any eye appeal, combined with Cream/OW pages this is not a desirable book.
  3. Well put and I totally agree. With so many low grade, restored examples of books out there why use a high grade pedigree for a signature.
  4. They probably read the recent Board postings complaining about the soft grading lately, seriously. I think you know the posts I am refering to as I believe you responded. I cringed when I saw those posts. What were they expecting to accomplish ? The OP got some good grades and complained, ridiculous.
  5. It has to be that long and winding crease on the front cover. I suspect CGC treated it like a subscription crease. I never saw a graded book with a subscription crease but I presume it would be treated harshly. As a dealer, you may be better off selling it raw. I suspect the same logic was used when making it available to you raw. Did you at least get the OW-W page quality ?
  6. How did you submit this book ? I submit my books online as a Collector's Society member . As part of the Submit Comics process it asks you what type of service you want, ie Standard, Modern, Reholder, etc. If you went through a third party you may have to arrange it with them.
  7. News to me = never heard of it. Usually they just tell you to send it back in using a reholder invoice and manually write the problem on the form. Are you sure you didn't misunderstand what they told you ?
  8. I have much to learn about quoting posts the right way from the Awesome Greggy Greggy, great books, awesome results, congrats. Question: Are we ever going to see a Greggy sales thread ? You'd make a lot of Board members happy if you did !
  9. Sorry Rey, but you broke new board rules. You are supposed to post your books, mention they are going to be for sale, and then giggle wildly about making loads and loads of cash. According to the new rules you also have to say how much you paid for the books.
  10. It's nice to see you've captured the essence of this thread and the Boards by telling us all about the financial aspects of the books.
  11. 10 books from a recent submission. FYI, all books are from my personal collection and were never pressed, not that there's anything wrong with that ! Supes 170 and 184 . In 170 Superman meets John F. Kennedy. Aquaman 12 is the single highest graded, with white pages ! Showcase 59, hard to find in high grade. Very happy with the 9.4 but it looks 9.6 . Thor 129 and Sgt Fury 14 . Tales of Suspense 38 and Tales of the Unexpected 71. The 71 is a Slobodian copy, not recognized by CGC. Wonder Woman 94, my only disappointment but still rare at this grade. FF 29 is such a cool book, gotta love the White pages. Thanks for looking !
  12. FYI, it looks like an X-Men 1 in 6.5 OW sold for 4,000 the same day it was listed on the Worldwide site. This book is getting hot !
  13. Great looking book. I love Bethlehem copies with a prominent date stamp. People forget, this was once a big name pedigree. With the influx of so many new pedigrees it's lost a little lustre but it's great pedigree with lots of early 60's DC.
  14. Great book. I am almost sure I once owned this book raw. The light Marvel chipping is very distinct. And I remember the pages were Bone White. Congrats.
  15. As far as I can tell it doesn't do anything in the way of a repair. I think it is bag tape that got stuck to the cover. I'm really considering having it removed if it wouldn't make this book a PLOD as I think I could get a bump of at least 2 points if not more on a resubmit sans tape. First off, I think it's a great looking book and if the grade and tape bother you I suggest cracking it out. In a mylar with backing board you won't see the tape. Unless it's very fresh, tape removal will leave a mark. The location of the tape will be discolored to the rest of the book and CGC will downgrade for it. IMO it will grade 6.0 sans tape but with residue and not worth the expense.
  16. I don't know where Steve finds all his books but you can always count on a regular dose of great books at fair prices from Steve. Steve is also an avid collector, just look at his signature line, amazing. He's a great guy, great communicator, and best of all he genuinely wants you to be happy with your purchases. A+++
  17. That's a beautiful copy . . . definitely presents well! Just out of curiosity, where did you find your copy? Scouring the internet, like I often do; at a show; private sale . . . .? I haven't been to a show in many years. I'm hoping to go to WonderCon and San Diego next year . . I may have to wait 'til one of those before I find the copy of ASM #1 or AF #15 I've been looking for. Until then, I'll just stay envious. Thanks. I got this from a dealer friend of mine. He bought it raw. The seller wanted to sell it as a 7.5, my friend thought it was 6.5 because of the stain. He submitted it just last month and it got the 6.0 . He knew I was looking for a copy and contacted me. I feel very fortunate to have it. It's a keeper.
  18. Bob, Great story!!! I also bought my first (and only) copy off the stands. I sold it in 2001 to help pay for my daughter's college tuition. One day I will own another. Your 6.0 was definitely worth the wait. Very pretty copy!!! — Rick Rick, thanks. It was a great time to be a kid that enjoyed comics. I stopped collecting soon after the Beatles came out. I had to make a choice, records or comics, I couldn't afford both.
  19. I'm really happy about this book. IMO it presents much better than a 6.0 . No chips, no writing, shiny clean staples, very bright, just a small stain mostly noticable on the BC. This is the 3rd copy of this book I have owned in my lifetime. - My first copy cost me 12 cents off the rack, yes I am old. I distinctly remember being excited when it came in. I folded it and put it in my back pocket and went immediately home to read it. When I was 17, I gave it to my nephew and my sister eventually threw it out. - I got my 2nd copy about 2001 in CGC 7.0 off of E-Bay. I sold it a couple years ago and have been without until today. Thanks for listening.
  20. I'm really happy about this book. IMO it presents much better than a 6.0 . No chips, no writing, shiny clean staples, very bright, just a small stain mostly noticable on the BC.
  21. With a 103 9.8's and 0 9.9's or 10.0's until this book I hope the book is a keeper. This is truly a rare book. Congratulations and good eye !
  22. Tom, well said and I agree with all your points. Especially the life and death issue, it's true how bent out of shape we get about a comic book transaction. However, with your points in mind, why have a kudos thread at all ? It's useless.
  23. [quote=skypinkblu Well, if you were not that happy, don't leave anything. If you got something horrid and you couldn't get your trading partner to make it right, that belongs in the probation discussion thread...but not every transaction deserves kudos... I'm sorry but this is exactly what makes the kudos threads worthless. If you are not happy with a transaction you should say so in the kudos threads. Pehaps the 'Kudos thread' should be changed 'Feedback thread'.
  24. I totally agree with Brian. This is a relatively small community, almost a good old boys club, and all I am seeing is the same members leaving mutually beneficial kudos to the same members. The kudos threads have nothing substantial in them. Justified or not someone leaves a negative and it gets pulled ? I want to read about the bad incidents but I suspect most are afraid to leave them.
  25. That is an example of a perfect book. Rocky Mountains are so fresh and clean. JIM 125 is underrated. I like the simplicity of the cover, reminds me of #89.
