  1. At a glance, those books do not look to be candidates, condition wise, to clean/press/slab. However, I am not familiar with the value of Whitmans. Are these all Whitmans ? BTW, you really need to get these into bags and boards.
  2. You want a quick, yet inexpensive determination. In the CGC world, quick and inexpensive are mutually exclusive. I'm curious as to what you are trying to accomplish here? Is this for a specific situation/book or an ongoing process ?
  3. Regarding Question A : How can anyone here possibly answer that . It's really up to you and how much you want to put into it, time and money. To sell 100K a year you need to have at least 100K in a continuous stream of inventory. Where are you going to get this inventory ? Maybe you had a lucky score on the 2500 books. Don't mistake luck for skill. I would not quit your day job. Regarding Question B: Why would anybody answer that question. I don't think dealers want to go on a public site and discuss their personal finances.
  4. I agree with your assessment of grade but not sure about a press helping. There are some large corner creases that deeply break color.
  5. Awesome copy of a difficult book. The colors pop ! Congrats.
  6. See my comments above replying to the Lion. The notes are free to the submitter, no bucks involved. If you are spending the big bucks on a high tier, then yes, the notes should be there. Not so sure if there should be an obligation for 9.8's in a cheap tier. What is the point of notes on a 9.8 ? Are we CPRing for 9.9's now ?
  7. I don't think people realize how much time the notes add to the whole process. I just hope these same people demanding notes don't complain about TAT's. I believe notes were originally intended to pass along between graders, inhouse stuff. The availability of sharing with the public was originally just a courtesy. Then, non-customers starting seeing them as info for CPR candidates in the secondary market. Realizing this, CGC starting charging for notes but FREE to the submitter, never promising availability. Now, they want the notes available, detailed, and complete. A monster has been created.
  8. I totally agree. Navy Pier is a venue for tourists, staying in the area hotels. Last time I went there I got a parking ticket. I can't imagine it's easy for a comic dealer to set up either.I would think it's an expensive venue to rent for the promoter. IMO, a terrible choice.
  9. What is often overlooked are fingerprints, loose/bent staple, tiny fuzzy at the staple hole, not just creases or bends. And don't forget about the interior, maybe a loose centerfold, maybe one of the pages has a bend or tear. IMO, the notion that a press will ensure a better shot at a 9.8 on what appears to be a flawless comic is dangerous. Sometimes, the press itself will introduce the slightest damage . Good luck with your review. They often relent just because it's not worth the hassle !
  10. If this is true, and they are giving notes on the uber grades, what are we complaining about here ?
  11. Wow. I hesitate to say this but from those notes, they don't sound like 9.8's .
  12. It's interesting that they listed the erasure mark, a back cover flaw, first in the notes. While I don't think there is a priority to the order of the notes you generally see the front cover comments first, sort of the order they noticed while looking at the book. The fact that the erasure was listed first makes me think it stood out to them. In summary, I think the weak grade is a reflection of that erasure mark. It's obvious it was poorly executed with a 'dirty' eraser so they probably treated it like a stain or maybe a loss of color. I also think those other smaller stains on the BC were not mentioned because they didn't matter in the grade, it was all about the erasure mark. Sorry.
  13. Never heard of an 'official' name. Just look to make sure there is an inner well, you want an inner well. I generally look at the upper corners for the very easy to identify gaps. These gaps were meant to protect the corners in case the book shifts. When you buy a book online, look really hard and make sure there is a pic of the BC. Never buy a book without seeing the BC. Scan along all the edges, front and back. If you see something amiss, just pass on it. Contacting the seller will only get you excuses about the quality of the pic, not the book.
  14. Well, it's a 9.4 because the label says it's a 9.4. I'm assuming you are questioning the grade because of that chip in the bottom left corner. CGC probably considered it bindery and let it slide. Personally, the chip would bother me in a high grade. Not sure why you bought it if you didn't like the looks of it.
  15. Absolutely no comparison. Love the strong colors on your book !
  16. Though I agree with you, why didn't the reds in the title fade ?
  17. Nice looking copy for the grade. I would have thought a tear seal would have received a Conserved Grade ?
  18. Depending on your definition of low grade, even a 1.0 would be close to 10K . It's crazy !
  19. I think he meant it as a PGM thread. In that case, I would grade this 'manufactured 9.2' as an 8.5, maybe a 9.0 with a proper press but the ink smeared date stamp cannot be helped now.
  20. Well, since it's not an 'official' sales thread, I'm going to state what I think of this book. I think this guy bought this book and did a home grown press, it looks terrible. I see warping at the top. It looks like the date stamp ink is smeared. It appears he did not clean the spine area and the press has 'burned' in the dirty areas. The spine is flat as a communion wafer. The book is way off center, with the press probably accentuating the width of the white stripe. An overall terrible looking book but I will say the case looks good with no Newton Rings !
  21. I'm not sure I understand the details. Are you saying the rejects were shipped separately from the graded books or are you saying that you submitted your prescreen divided into 2 invoices. Please be more specific. Sorry.
  22. I would bet that you used the link in the E-Mail, maybe just once, and it is now remembering it via Cookies. Clean out your browser, try a different browser, delete the cookies, whatever you need to do.
  23. Cool books. Just a comment. I think, at least for the Silver Age books, a pic of the Back cover would help.
