  1. Rust never sleeps. I try to avoid rust on staples and only books with a tiny 'spot' are even acceptable to me. However, I have owned books with a tiny 'spot' that seems to be contained and did not get worse. Full rust with contamination to the paper is a deal breaker, IMO.
  2. It's not so much specific incidents, it's more pervasive than that. A no rules, every man for himself type of culture. Most of us are used to being at a con with all the merchandise up front, on the tables, difficult to impossible to hog anything but a specific box or two. At set up, everything is still behind the tables in boxes, a single aisle. A single individual, if so inclined, can block the whole aisle, preventing anybody else from looking at the stock until they are 'finished'. Now 'finished' means they have pulled a big stack, which they leave until later, so they can quickly move on to the next dealer's setup. And if word gets out about a new collection at a specific dealer's setup, it's insanity, a feeding frenzy. Some move in packs, others solo, but forget the normal rules of etiquette during this time frame. You really have to see it to understand but it's crazy. Good times !!!
  3. Sounds like a CGC oversight. You lucked out, not sure what you are asking. There is certainly nothing to complain about.
  4. I may be wrong but that upper right corner looks rounded, not sharp.
  5. Sorry but this book is in pretty bad shape. Those stains kill the grade. The signature won't hurt much, if at all. IMO, 4.0/4.5 .
  6. I think nobody is responding because we don't see the 'error' you are referring to ? What do you see that bothers you ? I see nothing out of the ordinary.
  7. All these stories pale in comparison to set up day at a larger convention. It's brutal.
  8. OCD is a terrible thing. Seriously, I see no biggie problems here. Regarding the handle, put a couple boards between the handle and the comics. I will also put a TPB book, something more solid, to hold the books more firmly in place.
  9. Restoration is applied to improve the look of a book. How would that yellow spot improve the book ? Why would they touch up a red area with yellow paint ? I don't think that yellow spot is restoration.
  10. Though my statement will get a rebuttal if the right Boardie sees it, IMO CR/OW pages on a Bronze Age book is unacceptable. Sorry.
  11. That is my argument from another thread and I stand by those statements. Getting it quickly from the press to the graders can make a difference and the less handling the better.
  12. Unfortunately the definition of a Quick Press apparently varies by the company. You are not necessarily comparing apples to apples. Are you looking for quicker turnaround or a better outcome ? IMO, you get what you pay for.
  13. Please don't take any offense but it appears you are looking for specific, quantitative answers to your broad stroked questions. Akin to asking things like 'how much does lunch cost'. The only way to answer your questions is 'it depends'. There is no ROT for pricing restored books. Regarding the C-1 tear, you have the book in hand, you should be able to see it and judge for yourself. 'Small amount of color touch' can mean anything including multiple hits all over the cover. Removing resto can often hurt the eye appeal and value of the book in a negative way. This is a low grade book with a whole lot of creasing going on. I wouldn't mess with it.
  14. I remember a Board poll and I think the pressing issue was pretty evenly divided but most of us came around to some degree or another. You are correct, CGC backed off on the in house pressing. I was actually for the inhouse service at the time as it was a hassle going through Texas for all your pressing needs. That was when Matt was the only game in town. Securing Matt for the inhouse service was a brilliant move. I think pressing became more acceptable after Borock left CGC. For a while, he was dealing comics and he was on the boards a lot. He was very open about his books are pressed. If you trusted Steve, you had to trust pressing.
  15. Why Joey ? I know I always advocate letting a professional do your pressing but these are inexpensive but cool books for the collection. I recently got some books that were bagged but not boarded so the books were not flat. The weights work perfectly for this. I think every long term collector has tried this in some fashion. I've screwed up and caused a spine roll before, a learning experience to properly distribute the weight. When I start putting the books into a microwave (I know individuals that have done so) that's when you should call me out ! HaHA.
  16. Did the policy change ? ......
  17. That is not a plausible explanation from Paradise, it is a lame excuse. They are blaming CGC when it certainly appears CGC is not the problem.
  18. After two months I would hope CGC has the books. I would check with CGC now.
  19. Please out this dealer, he deserves it and we deserve to know so we can avoid him. This is terrible. IMO, you were ripped off on the shipping costs and I'm sure the books sustained some damage shipped this way. As a side note, I don't like to get a large combo of raws and slabs in one shipment. It's not easy to accommodate both in the same box. I would have had the slabs shipped separately = two boxes. It doesn't sound like you really got combined shipping anyway so the cost would have been the same with two boxes. IN any case, not bagging and boarding raw books for shipment is crazy. PLEASE name names !
  20. With six long boxes I agree with you. The first guy up doesn't have dibs on all six boxes. I would also stand next to him and start to browse on the other end. But in this case, there were only 40 comics. To me, that's dibs on the whole stack while negotiating.
  21. I had the same reaction. I'm not sure what his concern is ? Maybe the hand numbered thing but that should be okay for a blue label. Writing on the book may cost you a tick in the grade but will not affect the label.
  22. This story disgusts me. He absolutely should have waited until you were finished.
  23. Good job ! Does this mean Paradise just sent the books in to CGC ?
  24. Good idea but if the transactions are approaching a year, I think it's too late. I think my CC company allows for 90 days. I wonder if it can be extended if it's fraud ?
