  1. It was quite awful. Marville was atrocious as well.
  2. Don’t forget that any Marvel issue drawn by Frank Robbins was even more horrific than any of the aforementioned titles.
  3. They are horror, but very tame, and the Bronze Age titles were, to a degree, cautiously testing the boundaries of what was permissible in the mainstream with the loosening of Comics Code restrictions at that time, but still very reined in when compared to Warren Magazines and underground comix.
  4. Very true. But, this type of conversation is in a grey area, and it can be diverted into a constructive or toxic direction from its starting point. Sadly, increasingly the latter.
  5. It’s a shame that a thread with a potentially very constructive purpose has, once again, descended into a toxic, explosive, verbal fragfest.
  6. It was tragic. It was apparently a really, really nice sandwich. The boards were saddened by the senseless waste.
  7. There’s also the possibility that some lurkers are only around to read and monetise observations made here in posts by very knowledgeable and experienced boardies, and have no intention of contributing to the community at all. Maybe less so now as there’s less left to exploit and hype into the stratosphere than there was a few years back.
  8. Yup. The tension while waiting for the tokens to be pushed forward and into the best position is just incredible. More than once might cause actual brain damage.
  9. Despite its risqué name, a very typical fruited suet or sponge pudding. Nothing special as a dessert. Much prefer an apple or rhubarb crumble. Both good with some custard.
  10. It can be a laugh. One year my performance consisted of one huge error after another and I ended up second worst. Total car crash. Sure you’d be much better. I do miss the ‘guess the comic’ contests, where you’re given a small area of a cover, or a panel to analyse. Puzzle threads.
  11. Very true. Look at how much fluctuation there’s been in the comics market since CGC started. It’s very dynamic, in many ways.
  12. Planet Hulk was a great Hulk story, whereas WWH for me was spoiled by too many unnecessary tie-in series that added little to the main narrative, kept on repeating the same scenes and interfered with the pacing and progression of the main story, which itself was admittedly a good slugfest comic. The film can easily dispense with all of that pointless deviation.
  13. That’s an oversimplification. There’s a lot of masking of abuse-related depression, and of thoughts or actualisation of self harm.
  14. It’s worth persevering here. When I had a mere 13 posts I made the unforgivable error of using a big word, narcissistic, and giving the indication of being a newbie, a former lurker myself, who was trying too hard to impress, resulting in several of the established boardies abusively trolling me. I just completely ignored it. A year or so later, several longstanding boardies described me in posts as ‘bat-‘dropping’ insane’. Despite the early struggles, eventually a degree of acceptance began to evolve with these former antagonists. Far more important for me to continue discussing the various aspects of a subject I have a deep interest in and care about than obsess, or be completely defeated, by engaging in keyboard warfare at a distance. If someone as supposedly socially clueless as I am can do it, the lurkers out there should consider giving it a go.
  15. And, a few years ago, there was the graemlin fad, where thousands of single graemlin posts padded out some counts.
  16. I can be exactly the opposite. I look at a post I've made and often, soon after, think it's sophomoric, banal or just a bit rubbish, and doesn't work, and delete / hide it. Sudden mood changes and OCD do that.
  17. Exactly. Putting a bit of emotional effort into it as a trigger. Emphasis can change meaning and effect.
  18. Yup. I was going to say it requires exclamation ! emphasis to work.
  19. He was called Captain Marvel up until only a few years ago, when he changed to Shazam. So, it's only a fairly recent problem, over the last decade.
  20. 1 - The Manhunter is a shapeshifter. 2 - Even that doesn't excuse bad art.
