  1. It would've been better if they'd kept Kirby's concept of The Eternals being earthborn rather than yet more humanoid aliens, and so, to the general public, Thor, then Eternals, then New Gods might seem repetitious. Also, the idea of them protecting their weaker human cousins from the hostile Deviants makes more sense than them being unrelated extraterrestrials. The difference Marvel appears to be emphasising is the historical influence The Eternals have had on mythology and demonology, something which doesn't feature significantly in New Gods, and which also needs to be a stronger, worldwide, more generalised effect than was possible in the Thor movies.
  2. Always good to hear about Bill Finger being given more credit, even though I won’t get to see the documentary itself.
  3. I always felt they were quite different. Fourth World, a conflict between two post-Ragnarok factions of new gods, Eternals about alien experimentation on our early hominid ancestors. However, the upcoming film interpretation of The Eternals seems to be reimagining them as an alien species; for me too similar to the Asgardians, and, therefore, to DC’s New Gods.
  4. Another year during which I didn’t buy a single comic book, but I’m sure there will be a lot of cool stuff to completely use up my allocation of likes, in absolutely no time.
  5. The one with the early Frank Miller Batman story. Good choice.
  6. It is great. Read it in the recent Barks series from Fantagraphics.
  7. I don’t look at eBay, but I remember the orange ‘Superman-shaped’ Cheeto that more closely resembled The Thing, which was posted here a while back.
  8. I doubt it’s the best, but the one I have fondest memories of is ‘Have Yourself A Sandman Little Christmas’ from Marvel Team-Up 1, also first read in an oversized Grab Bag Treasury Edition.
  9. An interesting exercise in choosing evidence selectively and, therefore, of confirmation bias from a medical, psychiatric "authority figure" who's actually totally clueless about the subject, and talking out of his arse hyperbolically, leading to needless destruction - tragic consequences such as comic book burnings and the emasculation of New Trend EC, one of the most significant, greatest publishers in the history of the medium. As stated earlier, no different to more recent ignorant, misguided, moralistic witch-hunts against simple escapism such as Dungeons and Dragons, metal music and video games, etc..
  10. An alternative would be 80s Mickey Rourke. Thinking about his role in Angel Heart.
  11. Good choice. Julie Newmar would be a good 60s period match for Sersi; a bit of a trickster as Catwoman, and a demon in a Twilight Zone episode.
  12. It is a bit clunky and maybe overcomplicated in terms of the many search options. Also, difficult to use on a smartphone without pinch magnifying a great deal. It's the only alternative I was aware of to ComicBookDB, which I also felt had similar design limitations.
  13. Some of the staff I occasionally speak to at my local cinema when I go to watch the Marvel and DC super-hero films seem very enthusiastic to discuss those films, but when I go on to talking about the original comic books, characters, story origins or creators, they aren't really that interested in what I have to say about the source material.
  14. Tatiana has amazing vocal range. Excellent clean vocals, but what obviously surprises is the depth, aggression and power of the death metal growling. Quite exceptional.
  15. I've tried to be enthusiastic about some of my favourite creators and stories, but I've never really encountered much reciprocation on a similar level. Once or twice, maybe.
  16. That’s the added complication. I wouldn’t even bother explaining my Richard Corben undergrounds, manga or slice-of-life independents.
  17. I’ve never liked that version or first appearance of Rocket. Too much of a clichéd, British upper class accent.
