  1. I enjoyed the shorter, previous season, but the current one has really started running out of steam. I've just watched the episode with the sushi restaurant.
  2. They can also carry Chlamydia. What a cute little marsupial.
  3. Never really impressed with the stories in Harvey horror comics, compared to EC’s books. Howard Nostrand was a fairly decent copyist of EC artist Jack Davis’ style, but the rest of COC 19’s content is quite mediocre. The artwork in SSS 6 is vastly superior throughout; Wally Wood, Jack Kamen, Joe Orlando and Graham Ingels. Also, Gaines and Feldstein’s stories are consistently well-written, if sometimes preachy. Top quality pre-Code.
  4. Shock SuspenStories 6. Both well-executed covers, but the stories and artwork inside the EC book are far, far superior. I wouldn't just buy for the cover.
  5. Konga's okay while he's calm, but he isn't one of the more knowledgeable boardies, and, when he starts losing in some debate about comic books, he has a tendency to start getting extremely frustrated and compensating for his ignorance by flinging his waste around the room. At one San Diego Comicon, an entire section of the exhibition hall had to be cordoned off, and a fully-protected Hazmat team sent in for clean-up. I personally wouldn't buy books from him, being condition-conscious and concerned about him having a bad day while he's processing my order.
  6. Surely this is a contender for worst Outer Limits space alien?
  7. TR 3 was a chore to get through - much harder than the first two and quite boring, especially still having to wander around in the dark, lighting flares. Finishing it once was enough. The games went downhill from there until Crystal Dynamics took over with Legend, and have progressively improved since then.
  8. Doom is another key, genre-defining, influential game from the PS 1 era.
  9. It was quite something to wander through all those ruins and tombs at the time, taking in some of the brilliant environments; a classic being climbing to the top of the underground Sphinx in TR 1 and just looking around. Now, the earliest games are supposed to have aged badly - not just the blocky graphics but the clunky, grid-based tank controls, something shared with Resident Evil. Once you've become used to the finer control provided by an analogue Dualshock, reverting back to 90s-style controls would be frustrating. I'd recommend you play Anniversary, which is a HD remake of the first game, and fantastic nostalgia. Because of the more modern analogue controls, it also feels a lot easier than the original.
  10. I've bought comics from Gorgo. Easily the strictest grader I've ever dealt with, great packing and total satisfaction with the orders. A well-deserved first place.
  11. The point I'm making is that Kirby-style effects can be done quite well, as in the film I referenced - even years ago. Nothing more than that, actually. Pardon me.
  12. There's no cuddly toy option on the prize list, but, nonetheless, with that post count alone, didn't he do well?
  13. The commentary track for Blade 2 is quite interesting for this reason. Guillermo del Toro very enthusiastically discusses some of the effects he placed in the film as being homages to Jack Kirby, particularly the UV explosions. So, there is a precedent.
  14. It would be a good idea for them to incorporate the Cadmus Project into the film.
  15. Yup. The Deep Six story is one of my favourites from the Fourth World saga.
  16. Yup. That was an incredible experience, as there wasn't a comic shop in the Manchester area at the time, and it had a great selection of material. From early 1978, I used to have several 'days off' school each year to go down to London on the train and buy imported comics there. A pity it went so corporate, later in the 80s.
  17. Of the evil New Gods, I'll be interested in seeing Doctor Bedlam on-screen, but hopefully they'll do everyone a favour and omit Glorious Godfrey and Virman Vundabar.
  18. I suspect that'll be in the sequel, New Gods Episode 2: Apokolips Strikes Back.
  19. Pure coincidence. You forgot to mention The Source and The Force.
  20. I'd interpret it as inventive , different, and more interesting than most comparatively mundane books being churned out during his time. A great reason to have a preference for the work of creators like Gerber and Fleisher.
  21. Is that part of your Jack Cole collection, Mike?
  22. Yup. It was a reversion to the original, very dark nature of the character, as seen in the earlier GA More Fun Comics, with lots of bizarre retribution against criminals. Both Fleisher and, later, John Ostrander, understood what made his stories work best.
  23. It’s actually very consistent, right from the beginning, where Fleisher was preceded by John Albano. Great reading, collected in trade format - as I suggested.
