  1. Yup. It was a very poor implementation of the concept. Garko the Man-Frog was much, much better.
  2. Great cosplaying there of one of my favourite Bronze Age characters, Bessie, aka Hellcow. All it needs now is a Dracula cape, and it'll be ready for a convention appearance.
  3. Congrats ! A big reason why I can turn away from the current speculator frenzy is that, luckily, I acquired my earliest, most significant comics in high grade before all of that took off. I share your enthusiasm, and similar nostalgia, looking back over a 40+ year journey myself.
  4. A very good series, which was consistently enjoyable for most of the run, up until editorial pressure forced Kirby to link the concept into the Marvel Universe with the somewhat underwhelming ‘Hulk’ storyline. An often dark and intense series, and one of my Bronze Age favourites.
  5. Chaos, randomness, disorder, irreverence. Interesting stuff.
  6. Always nice to see original Carl Barks paintings.
  7. It really is about time they changed the name to something much more realistic, such as the San Diego Pop Culture Exhibition or Museum, rather than Comicon.
  8. I actually stopped reading the article part way through. The writer is extremely condescending in tone.
  9. Yup. I can believe it . It's not widely known that Uatu's people have a shoe fetish.
  10. Just read it. Jason Aaron has been consistently excellent on Thor; both the Odinson and Jane Foster. Marvel may be churning out a lot of dross, but there are always standout exceptions to a trend.
  11. If you're careful, you might be able to keep them Near Minty-fresh.
  12. People will mock you now, but one day, I'm sure, your hobby will enter the mainstream; just like comics have.
  13. One of the best of its time, and a Wolverine appearance in every issue.
  14. I'd heard about him having difficulties quite a while back. Very sad to hear, as his Flash stories were consistently enjoyable, and I recall Journey being a quality 80s b / w indie comic. An underrated writer.

  16. As much as I’m a big John Byrne fan, he wasn’t on form at all during that 90s run of Spider-Man. Being polite. I have to sadly concur.
  17. Throughout the 70s and 80s, Claremont's writing of the X-Men was pretty much the benchmark for relentless, mainstream super-hero angst, and, like Spider-Man before, easy for nerds like myself to relate to.
  18. Yup. One of my favourite Claremont / Byrne stories, and generally underrated. Rather than Hellfire Club, this is where, for me, the series became truly great.
  19. Being sent slabs without bags would be a little annoying, as, to begin with, they could get scratched or scuffed while being stored with the dealer. If buying slabs, there's a clear indication that the client is condition-conscious to some degree, and it would be common sense and courtesy, when distance-selling, to bag and board the raws in order to minimise the risk of spine bending, creasing or dings while in transit. The raw, regardless of its price or what the market is currently saying about it, might have some special significance to the collector, even if the seller believes it's total drek.
  20. I suppose that, like the Godwin's Law effect, it was inevitable, if the thread went on long enough, that it would be taken over by felines.
  21. Very similar in look in his 80s Omega Men appearance to another, earlier Giffen-created character from Bronze Age Defenders, Lunatik...
  22. That describes a very large group of pack-hunting movie speculators. I'm waiting for The Big Wheel to be tipped for an appearance.
