  1. A fairly verbose piece which condenses down to 'Superman has killed, several times, in the comic books'. If you already know that, the scene in the film isn't surprising or shocking.
  2. I did enjoy the way the episodes were done in different styles, a bit of variety.
  3. A shame. I always looked forward to your threads, Mike.
  4. We like to keep away from the riff-raff. .... this is probably best...... CG is a cesspool of viciousness...... a whirlpool of pent up frustration and latent deviancies of the most abominable nature ...... it's a little better here..... GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) It's all of the above here, but done with better, English manners.
  5. Curious, would you consider a character's true first appearance in a book or pulp as their first appearance? Or does it have to be drawn along with the story - not just cover art. Conan and the Shadow come to mind as possibilities... A pulp or book is a different animal than a comic book story, so no. And when you get right down to it, comic magazines are just larger format comic books. Look at Marvel Preview, or Epic Illustrated, for example. They are comic books only bigger. Not to mention that comic book publishers referred to their comics are "Comic Magazines" for decades. When you take that into account, the distinction between comic "book" and comic "magazine" seems even less important. Less important to me anyway. I know some will not agree with that. To me, apart from the size, exactly the same material and so no difference. On par with each other.
  6. From the London convention, an excellent Penny Century commission from a very talented British indie artist, Adam Cadwell...
  7. Love and Rockets #1 That's a good idea. I'd really like to own a first print version, black-and-white cover. The books suggested are too common and too speculated upon.
  8. It's good to see Ditch back. I was concerned.
  9. I paid close attention to limiting my fluid intake before I went to see Watchmen. As a result I was able to enjoy the brilliant Dr Manhattan origin sequence in complete comfort. Odd that you picked that particular sequence as the one likely to trigger it...seeing giant blue wang on the big screen gets your juices going, I'm guessing? Just a very long film and, getting old, becoming neurotic about the staying power of my bladder. Blu-ray for me, now. Better safe than sorry. Can't allow micturition to get in the way of fully appreciating another epic from this great director.

  11. I’m really looking forward to it. I enjoyed Watchmen, Sucker Punch and Man of Steel, and so I expect to be equally well-entertained by more from the film’s very talented but much-maligned director. I know this statement will polarise opinion.
  12. Get well, Jimmers. The boards need your humour, warmth and friendliness.
  13. It was a privilege and an honour to have known him.
  14. Just having a break from watching it for the first time on Blu-Ray. I'm about half way through and my opinions are, maybe, quite biased by having just had a couple of glasses of wine and being slightly buzzed. It's an excellent action film ; great direction, camera angles, cinematography, pacing. Basically one long action scene and so far it's kicking arse. Petrol is quite unstable and would deteriorate rapidly, and it is extremely unlikely that enough would be available to run vehicles of the size and weight seen in the film but, after all, it is fantasy.
  15. Accurate grading, superb-looking books, shipped with care. Very pleased.
  16. Northern England has suffered badly over the past few weeks. Lots of damage all over the place.
  17. Very reclusive. Like a combination of Salinger, Pynchon and Ditko. Assuming that he hasn’t been abducted, of course.
  18. On my God! Who drew that,it's terrible. This gets my vote. Looks like Carmine Infantino.
  19. Batman and Robin's expressions look a bit constipated there. Definitely struggling. Never noticed that before.
  20. There was also Shock Suspenstories by EC, which had some hard-hitting anti-racism stories.
  21. I think ASM #16 is one of Ditko's better Spidey poses - he's lithe, fluid. The Daredevil figurework spoils it for me. Very stiff-looking.
