I believe Thanos looks angry because the kid is using the Cube for trivial purposes, simply creating a generic ice cream cone, whereas he wants to use the device to its fullest potential, making several boxes of Twinkies - the only snack which satisfies the between-meals appetite of a Mad Titan, and which also explains why he looks a bit on the chunky side.

I know what you mean - it has all the depth and sophistication of a Bronze Age Hostess Twinkie advertisement.

As a Thanos fan I'm going to treat this as out-of-continuity material and pretend it doesn't exist. The only way I'd accept this is if it was written by Jim Starlin and he was having a laugh.

When I started collecting in the late 70s, I was introduced to Will Eisner's work very early on, and I put together a complete run of the Kitchen Sink Spirit magazines. It's just a shame that I wasn't similarly directed towards Caniff at that same stage, and I completely overlooked Kitchen Sink's reprints of his work. It's only within the last five years that I've managed to catch up and get to understand what a great artist he was.

+1 I've ordered this version. As with IDW's 'Terry and the Pirates' and 'Steve Canyon' , this is the first time I've ever purchased a reprint collection of the strips, despite having had many opportunities to do so for decades now. The books I most regret missing are the Kitchen Sink 'Steve Canyon' magazines.

As with the selection of PF raws last time, more superb books here. The TOD 2 looks amazing!

I have all of the IDW Terry and the Pirates volumes, and I'm looking forward to getting the Steve Canyon series in the same format, starting early next year. I didn't like the Checker version because of the miniscule panel size. Caniff's art isn't cropped in the new reprints, which is another incentive to buy.

I agree it would be nice to have those details, but in some cases I think there would be far too much information to fit comfortably on the label, especially with the giant size books reprinting 50s SF and monster stories, such as Fear, to give an example.

I think that usually means it's an all-reprint issue.

+1 I was thinking the same thing, that the Reese-inked cover is grittier and more modern. The faces have a very weary, shellshocked, battle-hardened quality. Very intense for a mainstream, early 70s cover - for me far superior to the published version.

Great-looking books. This and the Avengers 93 I posted a few pages back are my favourites in the Kree-Skrull War storyline run. Brilliant artwork. I'll see if I can post a scan of my issue 96, 9.4, White pager sometime.

I think what amuses me the most here is that it was a real-life 'Comic Book Guy' moment.
