  1. As a Thanos fan I'm going to treat this as out-of-continuity material and pretend it doesn't exist. The only way I'd accept this is if it was written by Jim Starlin and he was having a laugh.
  2. Those PF books are great. Don't blame you for posting this fantastic-looking copy, with reprints from More Fun Comics, and one of my favourite GA characters and story runs. (thumbs u
  3. When I started collecting in the late 70s, I was introduced to Will Eisner's work very early on, and I put together a complete run of the Kitchen Sink Spirit magazines. It's just a shame that I wasn't similarly directed towards Caniff at that same stage, and I completely overlooked Kitchen Sink's reprints of his work. It's only within the last five years that I've managed to catch up and get to understand what a great artist he was.
  4. +1 I've ordered this version. As with IDW's 'Terry and the Pirates' and 'Steve Canyon' , this is the first time I've ever purchased a reprint collection of the strips, despite having had many opportunities to do so for decades now. The books I most regret missing are the Kitchen Sink 'Steve Canyon' magazines.
  5. As with the selection of PF raws last time, more superb books here. The TOD 2 looks amazing!
  6. I have all of the IDW Terry and the Pirates volumes, and I'm looking forward to getting the Steve Canyon series in the same format, starting early next year. I didn't like the Checker version because of the miniscule panel size. Caniff's art isn't cropped in the new reprints, which is another incentive to buy.
  7. I agree it would be nice to have those details, but in some cases I think there would be far too much information to fit comfortably on the label, especially with the giant size books reprinting 50s SF and monster stories, such as Fear, to give an example.
  8. I think that usually means it's an all-reprint issue.
  9. You know I'm going to like that one! (Adams fan - 3 favourite Marvel issues = Avengers 93, 96 and X-Men 58) (thumbs u
  10. Exactly why I can be perfectly happy with a 9.2 rather than 9.8, when you can find them looking this good!
  11. In no particular order... - Milton Caniff - Hal Foster - Will Eisner - Jack Cole - Carl Barks - Simon and Kirby - Alex Schomburg - Frank Frazetta - Mac Raboy - Al Williamson On my all-time top 10 list - Caniff, Eisner, Cole, Frazetta
  12. I'm reading this material, first time ever, in the current Fantagraphics hardcover collection format. Truly excellent.
  13. Very impressive books from all of you, guys !! (thumbs u
  14. +1 I was thinking the same thing, that the Reese-inked cover is grittier and more modern. The faces have a very weary, shellshocked, battle-hardened quality. Very intense for a mainstream, early 70s cover - for me far superior to the published version.
  15. Great-looking books. This and the Avengers 93 I posted a few pages back are my favourites in the Kree-Skrull War storyline run. Brilliant artwork. I'll see if I can post a scan of my issue 96, 9.4, White pager sometime.
  16. I think what amuses me the most here is that it was a real-life 'Comic Book Guy' moment.
  17. Yes, reprints of their early work. Jones, Kaluta, and Wrightson. I haven't seen a copy of this book since it was first published. I remember at the time asking the owner of the LCS if there was any new material in it at all, and he just sneered down at me and said, very condescendingly, 'Of course there isn't, that's why it's called 'Deja Vu' - already seen, all reprint - don't you understand?' Oh, sorry, pardon me for asking. Real nice guy.
  18. However, it's really not quite that important to me, so if you want, award the No Prize to Joey.
  19. I did a quick scan down the last page to see which images had been claimed, and it seemed to be just the Sub-Mariner cover, duplicated. I then went back and did the western-looking one independently - without noticing Joe had tried to claim it. So, I spent some time working the answer out from first principles. But, I did have a bit of a guilt trip later when I noticed what had happened -a while after posting.
  20. One of my favourite Bronze Age and Neal Adams books. Presents more like a strong 9.4
