  1. Thanks I appreciate all the input.
  2. @Lightning55 I'm troubled by the chips simply because it means someone has either tried to crack this slab, OR like I originally thought, someone switched out a 9.6 for a lower grade. Is it a 9.6 in the slab? There are various little things which might make me think it's lower, but not enough where I would say damn, this is a 8.5 or 9.0 in a 9.6 slab.
  3. @ADAMANTIUM here's a pic of the label.
  4. So, some of you may have read my thread in grading/restoration issues. That seller took the first book back. Now, I just received my second purchase, this time from a seller in Canada. I want to start by saying I've never seen a slab packaged this well. I state this because I am confident there is no way that 1) The slab could have sustained damage in transit, or 2) That customs went to the trouble of unpacking this book, cracking the side of the slab open, closing it, and then re-sealing all the bubble wrap (4 layers) and cardboard (4 layers) without any signs of the packing tape ever being cut/opened. Both these chips are inside the slab. One side is clearly open but the end tabs are still intact. My question is this; can a book in its plastic inner holder bag be removed from a slab and a different one inserted without any noticeable damage to the end tabs?
  5. Once I have my refund I will tell him. Right now all I want is a smooth return then I’ll let him know CGC is aware of this mistake.
  6. CGC Mike did contact me and let me know that the operations manager was aware of the situation and gave me their email. I was told CGC would make it right. Good to know even though I was able to return the book to the seller.
  7. He was very quick to respond, and I had a big sigh of relief as I had no idea what he would say. Seller also told me if he resisted, he would disclose the tape pull. Seems like an upfront guy.
  8. Good to know. Luckily the seller agreed to a return, so no hassle. Only loss is the postage and the taxes I paid on it. Whew!
  9. Just bought a slab off the 'Bay. TMNT #2 first print 9.6. When it arrived, I mostly made sure the slab was undamaged. Now, getting ready to hang it up, I've noticed a tape pull that takes much of the "U" and half of the "M" in Mutant on the cover. Would this have been a 9.8 without? Any chance CGC missed the pull? Graders notes are hidden and I can't get them being as I was not the one to submit the book. Thoughts?
  10. Have a chance to pick up some really early 1970’s Overstreet price guides, starting with #2. Do these have any value?
  11. The only uniform that can rival the mid 80’s White Sox uniform!
  12. @joeypost Seller of the Hulk 181 is a guy named August Dos Santos from New Rochelle, NY. The seller of the big collection I went to see but wasn’t able to really “see” them is Marshall or Michael Zerner out of Newton, NJ
  13. @Bludriver , especially in the area of high dollar raw books. I've come across 2 disreputable sellers in as many weeks. Coincidence or is the market just flooded with snakes and weasels???
  14. @ADAMANTIUM , no, as posted in the Please Grade threads, this was a book I was looking to buy. This guy sent me about 5 pictures of it.
  15. Man, with all the scammers and cheats selling on FB, Ebay and CL, and now in the restoration/pressing industry, this hobby has gone downhill quickly! Kinda depressing.
  16. ***Soooo, second warning I've given in a week; beware seller August Dos Santos on FB Marketplace in NY. He's selling the Hulk 181 I have in the "Please grade" and "Restoration" threads as all original/no resto. Obvious trimming, possible page/cover wash.
  17. Thought I might as well include all the pictures he sent me. Soooo, second warning I've given in a week; beware seller August Dos Santos on FB Marketplace in NY. He's selling this as all original/no resto.
  18. @Semicentennial , no, it almost was. One of those seemingly unbelievable deals. The guy who has it in NY had some X-men for sale at a really good price. I saw this book in the background, and inquired about it and asked for pictures and price. He said $5,000 firm, as he was planning on sending it to CGC then Heritage. $5,000 would have been an incredible deal for a book in this condition. Now seeing as he's trying to pass this off as unrestored, I'm staying away from all his books. With the really white pages and super sharp sides and edges, I'm thinking this book might have been washed and trimmed. Guys in the "Grade my" section said the same as you; the book looks "off".
