  1. i agree with this So do I, and, like HR, I can't explain it either. It's a bit of an ingrained prejudice.
  2. That all sounds well and good, Eric. However, in this case, the 'middle ground' was attempted by one party, and the high ground would have involved blindly hoping the art got sent at some point. IMHO, I'd ve been a little concerned as well if I'd been told 'the art is packed and ready to ship' and 'the art is being sealed', only to subsequently have nothing be sent.
  3. I stated an opinion and the remainder were responses. Since when is it rude to respond with a differing opinion? The sinking ship meme ventures into the realm of ridicule, Jeff.
  4. That's who keeps coming to my store and buying my mess! If only there was a website you could use to determine what's heating up, and get the books first.
  5. Dang that's a waste of a lot of money! For those who don't believe in the value of certain Previews...How is this not the first appearance of Saga? I have a leaflet that was left on the windshield of my car that predates it.
  6. Image doesn't work that way. I believe the standard print is orders +10%. There will be some large orders, though, probably from retailers who have been on top of the last year's trends. I'd guess the print run will be around 25K.
  7. It may mean the opposite, to a degree. Those are reorders, meaning many dealers are trying to up orders, feeling they hadn't ordered enough in the first place.
  8. whats so special about this one? Minimum Carnage crossover. Is that the only reason it's heating up? Who gives a damn about Minimum Carnage?? The Carnage stories over the last three years have been fairly popular. The character has seen a mild resurgence.
  9. Oh. So, you're one of those businesses that listens to its customers.
  10. Hellblazer and Fables are Vertigo. i.e. DC. Cerebus, which ran 300 issues, is one of the old flag bearers.
  11. That cover is sweet! (thumbs u I like it better than that baby variant But... But.. Andy said it was ALMOST the same as the Phantom #1 cover. He's an expert. You are really good at (a) pimping your books, and (b) insulting board members that would otherwise potentially be your customers. Do you have anything else to contribute? Can you blame him? Andy takes a shot at him every chance he gets.
  12. For me, it depends on the sig. I like signatures that I can actually read. If the signature looks like my 3 year old scribbled on the book, I'll pass.
  13. Sort of off topic but do you remember the delays with Battle Chasers? I think it was something like 18 months between issue 6 and 7! Yeah, I think Nonplayer might have the delay record IF #2 ever comes out. Lady Mechanika will be a contender for the record.
  14. Per e.s. in the Nwm thread, its an older/different concept that was totally revamped. The current version of the book was first previewed in the SDCC 2010 yearbook. I dont believe that is correct. The SDCC is just a splash page isnt it? I believe the first preview was Walking Dead 99, 2nd preview Harvest 4 and 3rd preview PP#7 WD 102. And the Invincible 19 NM preview is a prototype. es stated that he had significantly changed the NM concept since that first failed launch.
  15. And circulation increases. Hello? Marvel? DC? You listening?
  16. +1 I'm looking forward to reading it, but it's probably going to ultimately fall prey to the 'out of sight, out of mind' fate that befalls mini-series after they end.
  17. , i am seriously thinking of making one giant PM, that has like 100 people in it, and we can all just dump tips into it, and block out the lurker/google/corvettenights type leechers. You know you might be onto something there. (thumbs u Yup. There is a huge shadow gallery of readers of this thread. Even three months ago, stores didn't used to be sold out of hot new release books at 10am on a Wednesday.
  18. No negativity here. The LCS I get the Phantoms from sells them at cover price. Apparently Larry sells them at cover in his store as well. After Larry pays for the commissioned art for the covers, and then sells for cover, I doubt he's getting rich. It's more an opportunity to take shots at Larry. No such negativity follows the Ghost variants, Chuck's variants, or regional show variants.
  19. The preview in WD 102 did the book no favors. I'm glad I picked up and read issue 1. The Clone preview wasn't that great either.
  20. It'll be really interesting. I think it'll be very patchy. The LCSs on the ball will order well, but there are still some dogmatic thinking LCS owners who haven't moved away from the Marvel/DC paradigm. I think it's going to be feast or famine at the individual LCSs.
  21. There is a lot of truth in this comment over the past 6 months. Of course we want comics to blow up. If there's money to be made who cares how it happens? Marvel corporate strategy, circa 1993. Beware the disillusionment that follows if the 'blow up' is not based on merit, and the greater fool theory comes into play.

  23. Exactly. The LCS business is based on the file/pull box, and repeat customers. As asked, is there a middle ground? Sure. Pre-orders, as mentioned. Also, some LCS will put limits at two or three copies, to get some business from multiple buyers. In addition, after a couple months, limits can be lifted. Depends on the LCS
