  1. No, I do not think so. From everything I have heard, Riley does *not* have a problem meeting deadlines. I'd concur. RR has been doing two books a month for awhile. Debris and Dia de Los Muertos have been done by Riley during his Bedlam tenure.
  2. what is that UK? AI can't hear you over my FREEDOM http://i.imgur.com/rr66B1Z.gif Congrats on being my first notify. Its an Honor Sir cause you see Im the best there is and the best there will be. Thats the bottom line cause MetalPanda said so. Garth Ennis disagrees, Sony.
  3. Seriously? Wait for the tpb. Get a third print. Buy from Comixology. Pirating is not a valid option... unless you'd like whoever cuts your paycheck to suggest you working for free is a valid option.
  4. You should have just asked to have it. As soon as you asked to buy, the guy's radar probably went up.
  5. If by "good" you mean the quality of the writing, then I think anyone who follows comics SHOULD have had SOME idea. If by "good" you mean how good the $$$ would turn out to be, then no. But there should not have been a question about the writing. By 'good', I was meaning the whole package. Not only is the writing good, the covers are fabulous, the characters are unique, FSs art is clean, and the coloring is vivid. I agree with you that people who follow comics had some idea the book would be good, but I think it has gone above and beyond. Ironically, you can look at the Frank Miller example as a sequence of works where expectations and results can diverge.
  6. I'm not sold. BUT, the one thing we do agree on, the gold rush for the next WD, makes for an interesting thought: if YTLM was released now, in this environment, rather than ten years ago, would it be a big dollar book/run? My guess is yes.
  7. I think that's great, i'm glad he did it and I hope he does it again. I hope any writer/artist/editor whatever that wants to generate some funds feels free to do just what he did and I hope it has the same result. +1 +1 I agree as well, and Based on the interest when KW mentioned selling the books, I suspect the buyer is excited and proud to own them.
  8. Yes, the print run is referenced a couple of times early on. But these posts are on page 1 and are posted independent of any print run speculation: Why would they say this if not for the $$$ track record of BKV's previous books? Because Vaughan is a good writer? These above posts are made in the context of the print run discussion. Note the above: 'everyone is eyeing Saga'. You've posted a ton of snippets of posts, but the context gets lost when you do that. I can tell you that for me, the concern I had was print run. I gave no thought to the previous values of BKVs work. You can see the exact same type of discussion playing out in the 'East of West' thread. Anyone else want to chime in? Anyone base their Saga buying on the spec history of Vaughan's prior work?
  9. Yup. Batting average is higher when you wait until the ball is out of the pitcher's hand. Less than 8 weeks until 1st pitch.
  10. I'm not sure how what I said differs much? Sounds like pretty much the same thing! I was pointing out *why* I believed speculators didn't think SAGA would be a good investment, despite the previous quality of BKV's work-- because none of those previous titles had caught fire before. Or, specifically, "caught anyone by surprise". Why should this time be any different? I agree the relatively high print run didn't help, but I still believe it was the perception of BKV as a quality writer, but not a surefire moneymaker, that kept most speculators from recognizing SAGA's potential. Anyway, I just now read the first few pages per your suggestion and it looks like the tone of the posts are consistent with what I thought. You read the wrong thread? No one tied speculation expectations to BKVs previous work or its value. A majority of posts were guesstimates of print run, and the fact that it would likely be highly ordered and keep value low.
  11. Yup. Batting average is higher when you wait until the ball is out of the pitcher's hand.
  12. The print run made people leery. I don't think anyone had any idea just how good this book was going to be. BKV's track record is solid. The odds were high that this book would be good read. But none of his previous work was ever "hot" (except for maybe a lone issue like YTLM #1), so that's how speculators based the monetary potential of SAGA.. That's not the case. Read the first pages of the thread, as raybowles did. The sentiment voiced repeatedly was that the book would be good, but it would catch no one by surprise, and the print run would be high. That is how the book was viewed by speculators. Your comment about the search for the next WD is correct, though. It's added a significant amount of froth to the market.

  14. It's a good read. Great narrative. Just ignore those who seem to have turrets syndrome and keep blurting out nonsense. WTH is 'Turrets" syndrome.. :roflmao: Random outbursts of gunfire from the cockpit...
  15. Is that considered pressing? Would probably create an artificial subscription crease, depending on the heft of the 'presser'.
  16. He'd better be careful, or he'll be changing his username to pacerdays.
  17. Uh oh. Guess I'll be taking a close look at any Saga 8s that come my way.
  18. Well Casanova was a good purchase. Just because he didn't get any Previews or Comic Shop News first appearances, that's no reason to take a shot.
  19. I made this for TPB, titanic-chew I made before the announcement, and support. This one is for the lolz, and not something that matches my opinion, but I give you: Hidensaga Oh, the humanity.
  20. still in stock at Diamond strange I thought the same thing. Far be it from me to argue with peoples buying habits though. First prints, though?
  21. Yup. And the companies are catching on to the idea that changing the cover will increase interest.
