  1. MOKF was supposedly being fast-tracked so I would go with that one. ROM is still just vapor. Or.......ROM movie development is still in Limbo?
  2. Exactly. That being said, I expect that a lot of investors get a % up front back from cash product placement deals on big films as well as government grants. As I pointed out earlier, one government provided a grant up front that covered 10% of the production costs (which made someone's calculations inaccurate/flawed from the start......) for filming in that jurisdiction. Since the film was shot in other countries as well, there were likely further government grants to shoot there. If I were financing these films I would ask for all of that money to be paid back first. I can't say for certain since the only content production I have invested in was small stuff (a couple of million per project split 2/3 government grants - federal and provincial - and 1/3 investors and production company), but it appears that the film industry is likely similar to pharma in sense. From a macro view, that means the studios = big pharma and own IP/offer the product, finish development and market it, but do not pay the bulk of development cost (Phase 3 onwards); film investors/production companies = small pharma/biotechs that take the most risk and pay the most to generate the product for royalties; and the theatres = drug stores that distribute it to the masses. We all know who ends up with the most in the pharma scenario........
  3. Nets a billion = profit of $1B. Grosses a billion = box office of $1B. It has not turned a profit yet according to some.........
  4. Black Panther or Avengers Infinity War? According to some, Aquaman is still losing money which is a far cry from "nets a Billion"..........
  5. Sweet. I totally forgot about this at the open, but just went and was able to get two unsigned ultra sets half an hour later. I hope they come through.
  6. Or even better, how about a duo with the current WW as well?
  7. I am looking at adding a WP well centred 9.4 this year...........if I can sell you CDSs on myself for doing that I would gladly do it to help pay for the cost of the book.
  8. These four were covers that were done for Marvel or other variants, right? That is smart on his part as he can monetize them again.
  9. So.....the ASM #14 exclusives are just a rehash of old variant cover artwork? That is smart on JSC's part - use the computer to manipulate past covers/artwork just like Marvel does for variants and make $$$ off of them a second time.
  10. The answer is simple. Atlanteans can swim fast due to the profits from the movie. Remember, in the end it is all about the Benjamins..........
  11. I don't get the whole issue with variants. The solution for stores is simple - either have the customer who must have the 1:50/1:100/1:200/1:500/1:1000 variant cover the full cost of placing an order for it, or don't waste your time with it. Any store owner that chases a variant for a customer knowing they can't sell it for a high enough price to cover the cost of over ordering deserves to go under as that is just a bad business decision.
  12. But did it turn a profit?
  13. Wow. this movie just continues to run. I have been hearing from more non-comic collecting friends that they like the film and think both Heard and Mamoa are great in their roles. It is funny to hear even the wives talk about how gorgeous Amber Heard is. And then they mention how impressive Mamoa's body is.......
  14. Congrats! There are collectors that will pay a premium for double cover copies.
  15. I personally think that Aquaman is a better movie than WW so I am glad to see that being reflected at the box office as well. If this can top $1B then hopefully WB takes notice about the tone they need with their non-Batman films. I think the serious/dark approach with Batman is what people expect and accept. Everything else needs a lighter touch.
  16. But, the most important question is what number does it need to hit in order to turn a huge profit like Venom did..........
  17. After the success of Aquaman, I really hope that Shazam does well for WB/DC so we can see more of the extended universe (maybe a new Green Lantern film? )
  18. You also are not taking government grants into account. Do a quick google search and you will find at least one in the public domain that reduces production costs by around 10%. The end of credits listing of thanks to government agencies will indicate which other government programs provided support. All you have to do is look at their annual reports to see how much they provided in support. For private investors, it will take some digging, but some of the funds/corporations that invest in larger projects may have public annual reports. As far as product placement, there will at least be some $$$ paid for Aquaman, just like any other hero film. I am not sure when that will be available, but my guess is it is in the $10s of millions. Like I said - your model is flawed since you are not taking into account all of the additional sources of funding/financing that are available to studios. As I have learned from failed past investments into content production, and from working on the government funding side, investors and government grants cover the bulk of the costs.
  19. It is tough to find complete and in decent shape. I snagged a CGC 6.0 last summer in a collection - the owner had 16 copies, but only 3 were complete (a CGC 5.0 and reader copy). He bought every copy he came across during his collecting phase from the late 80s through 2004ish.
  20. What is "flawed" is the fact you are not including anything up front for product placement and the % of production costs that were covered by investors, not WB. Without that, your numbers are incorrect and therefore flawed.
  21. I will give you an A for your effort in defending your flawed accounting.
  22. How did this show go? Was there a good turnout? I have long wondered if something similar would work in Edmonton during Boxing Week.
  23. So.....only $151MM until break even at $900MM?
