  1. I would not call it a great movie. A solid Marvel movie, okay, but it did not live up to the hype when I finally saw it. Now if you want to call it the most socially important Marvel film to date, definitely. Take out the social context, which was Disneyfied and toned down anyway, and it was an okay hero movie. It was a middling Marvel movie, on par with stuff like Captain Marvel 1, Thor 1 or Thor Dark World from an enjoyment and watchability perspective IMHO. Maybe my expectations were too high? I still don't care for the actor that plays T'Challa (too wooden/stiff), and found Killmonger to be one dimensional with a so-so acting job as well. The female leads were far more interesting, but maybe that was the angle Disney was looking for?
  2. Right now Hulk 181 is facing the seasonal headwinds we see pretty much year in year out in the comic market. Prices tend to run up from March through to September, then take a breather in October - mid December, in most years. January/February is hit and miss due to Christmas spending.
  3. It was a GD+, if I recall correctly. I sold it at the Edmonton Expo.
  4. Thanks. I would have been happy with a 0.5 FF 1 in the collection instead of it. The owner said that FF was his least favorite Marvel title so he never chased a #1, or completed the early run with a #4 or #5. He had a limited budget and focused on his ASM run and then cheaper Marvel runs instead (e.g. ST, TOS, TTA). He did like his Hulk x-overs, though, so there were 6 copies of #12 and 4 copies of #112 in the collection (as well as multiples of ASM #14 and Subby #8).
  5. Thanks. I can remember not too long ago when collections like this were everywhere. Unfortunately, now they are far more difficult to find. He did have an okay earlier Sgt. Fury group as well:
  6. Here are some of the larger groups from a collection I snagged in late August. I am hoping to keep most of the early SA runs in my PC after paying back the funds as I promised my wife. It was a nice way to build an early SA Marvel collection again.
  7. This collection had two raw FF 52s in it, and 6 or 7 (can't remember as I sold some) FF 53s including a graded copy (7.5). The reason - the owner felt it was undervalued and would gain more in value than FF 52 over time.
  8. I guess I should have elaborated. I loved the early X-Men run as a kid as well. That was the first Marvel SA run I put together. It was a much better read than early FF to someone that grew up in the 80s........
  9. I am not certain what the census numbers are, but my guess is that books from the late 20s - late 40s are harder to find slabbed since there was not much going on during that timeframe. They are easy to find raw in high grade.
  10. The X-Men were my favorite book as a kid - the first comic I bought off the rack was UXM #211 due to the cover and I was hooked from there. It has long been an undervalued title IMHO, when you consider how important it is in the Marvel universe.
  11. The owner used to buy books from me between 1997-2006ish when he stopped collecting. He has always been a good person to deal with, and buying the collection from him was the same. It likely helped that we knew each other from before as well. There was one book that he missed some glue on the spine with, but it was a common TTA issue.
  12. Thanks. I figured the Ms Marvel 1 and ST 180 had shots at 9.8, but the others were higher than expected which was nice. Now that the first few SA keys have come back, I am eager to see how the remaining 140+ books grade out, especially the ASM 1-15 run. I know that the #1 is only likely a 0.5 to 1.0, and a some of them are restored, but there should be some nice mid grade copies in the mix.
  13. And here are the slabbed BA books that were part of the collection (some of which have already moved onto new owners). The 2006 (second gen label) books are the ones the owner submitted, while the others he purchased earlier as upgrades.
  14. And the few Bronze/Copper books from a collection I bought in August that were worth slabbing (the bulk of the collection was GA and SA, so it was light on BA keys):
  15. Recently added this one from Ted at Superworld. I was looking for a higher grade copy, but the centering and W pages were too much to resist:
  16. The Bronze/Copper group arrived back today. There were not many since the bulk of the collection ended at 1972, but there were a couple of gems in the mix:
  17. I dumped all of my Preacher slabs at the peak which turned out to be excellent timing. I was debating whether to keep them in case the show turned out to be a huge hit, but decided to take the $$$ thankfully. If I had only timed some of my other TV/Movie spec books as well.........
  18. There are a ton of 9.8 copies of NM 98, so I am not surprised that the 9.6 prices are dropping.
  19. The first group of raw books that I sent in for grading from the new collection came back from CGC last Friday. Here are the books - the restored books were noted by the collection owner. And last but not least................ The crying shame book in the collection due to the small piece out of the tip of the bottom right corner:
  20. The books I sent in for grading from the new collection are starting to trickle in. I will post the first few later tonight.
  21. Yes. January Jones played the role. Here is a shot of her from the Hellfire Club scene.
