  1. The market cares most about 1st appearances now. FF #48 is the 1st Appearance of Silver Surfer and is running up, while SS #1 is just the character's 1st solo book. Look at TOS #39 vs. Iron Man #1 as another example of this.
  2. I am not sure re; the warehouse find, but a collector friend pulled his copy (graded out at 9.6) from the middle of a stack of 50 copies that a dealer had at a show in the late 80s. He said they came from an unopened newsstand bundle.
  3. They are Bronze Age as well, but with better potential IMHO. I may end up being wrong, of course, but I do think that the surge in SA keys the past couple of years (start with the big three then trickle down to others) will be repeated in BA. Hulk 181 jumping like it did this year is similar to the spike in AF 15/IH 1/SC 4 a couple of years ago, and other BA keys should follow suit next year as SA key prices get too high. For the entry price of $3000 for a 2.0 on middle tier SA keys you can grab some nice BA keys in 9.4..............
  4. There are other secondary keys that I think are better poised to break upwards now that IH 181 has made the first run. I will not mention the books since I do not want the competition in accumulating them, but a quick look at the pricing trends of some on GPA will give them away.
  5. I love the Hughes Supergirl LOSH variant, but my vote goes to Tec #880 for one simple reason - there are significantly more Batman fans chasing it than Hughes fans chasing Supergirl LOSH.
  6. Is that a tiny tear along the bottom edge in the right corner on the FC?
  7. I am surprised it was not lower, to be honest. Those dark covers show everything.
  8. The staining could drop it all the way down to 6.0 range, depending on how bad it is. Stains, tanning and dust/sun shadows = kiss of death with CGC.
  9. Is this the same book from the poster's original thread? If yes, based on the noticeable edge wear in the picture, larger color breaking spine creases, the multiple creases in the top right corner, and the crease in the bottom right corner, I would be extremely happy with an 8.0 since I would be expecting a 6.0/6.5 going in...................
  10. That was one of the best threads, if not the best, on these boards. Not only did we get to see an assortment of treasures that he had amassed over the years, but other boardies started posting their books in it as well.
  11. My rule of thumb is this for all ages of comics: 9.0+ = high grade 5.0 - 8.5 = mid grade 4.5 and lower = low grade And yes, that applies to GA books, especially since CGC and the other companies are a bit more lenient with them to begin with.
  12. Agreed re: the timing comment. They needed to do a solo BW film after her peak with the IM2/Avengers 1/Capt America Winter Soldier films when the character could have been the lead female hero. Right now BW is second fiddle to Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel in the MCU. They missed a huge opportunity to strike while BW was hot a few years back. You could argue the same about Winter Soldier - they should have done a Bucky vs. Tasha/Hawkeye/Shield Cold War feature film after the success of CA: WS.
  13. Too true. There was a post in the Golden Age thread a long time ago where some of the boardies had pics of collections with Action 1-10 in nice shape, Tec #27-38, Marvel Comics 1 up, Captain America 1 up, etc. It was awesome to see.
  14. To put things further into perspective, my best collection purchase would not crack the top 10 of a lot of other long time boardies.
  15. Thanks. This collection actually does not crack the top 5 that I have had the fortune of picking up since I first started selling on the side 20 years ago for one simple reason - the books are low to mid grade for the most part. I wish I could go back to 1997-2003 when uber HG SA and BA Marvel and DC collections, as well as nice GA collections, were easy to find and cheap.
  16. Interesting idea. If done right, they could use the TV shows to launch new properties for the big screen. My guess is that they are starting with "known entities" to begin with, but will branch out in short order with other lesser characters from the movies along with new characters. The key for a successful streaming service is content, and Disney has a lot of room to grow the Marvel TV universe.
  17. It cost a fair bit since the owner knew how much his collection was worth. In the end I considered it a fair deal as we both had to make concessions to meet in the middle - I paid more than my ideal price, and he had to come down from his asking price as well.
  18. To give this thread a bump, here is another collection I snagged in Edmonton at the end of August. Some of the books have been put up for sale on the boards (the slabs) and I have taken most of the remaining raws to two shows. I ended up sending in 160 books for grading for now, and the first few should be back this week.
  19. That and the fact that he has pumped out so many exclusives this fall that there is likely some buyer fatigue.........
  20. I have not seen it yet, but if the success of this movie means we get to see Woody as Carnage in the next one then that is all it needed to do!
  21. This was one of the best priced sets in a while, but the lack of MJ, Gwen or Black Cat is probably a big reason. Those three = $$$ for him.
  22. Not yet. There are other BA books that need to see their run up first...........
