Is any one going after the Rocky Mountain books that end tonight?

Can you remove pieces easily? If yes, it might be worth it to buy a restored copy like that for cheap, remove the work, and sell it for a tidy profit as unrestored?

Looking at this 7.0 makes me wonder where all of the other 6.0 - 7.5 copies that were abundany last year have ended up. You would see 7.0 copies in every auction and on the bay, but the supply is downright pitiful right now.

Now I remember it - the top left corner chip is the reason I did not bid.

That copy looks familiar...........which auction did it recently sell in? Or, was it the 4.5 from the boards?

You must did quite well... . I think this copy should do okay, but would have done better late last year. I will have to stay content with this copy (bought as a FN-) that just came in for now. If only it did not have the back edge chipping. However, at the price I paid it is definitely worth it.

Rick, was it a GA book? I have noticed that their grading of GA is way off, unfortunately.

Looks like a solid 8.5 to me. I would check with the graders' notes to see whether anyone gave it a 9.2 on the first go round. If yes, crack it, pancake it, and resub it.

I have talked to dozens and dozens of collectors, and krypto is the first and only one I have ever herad say they did well buying pgx... thats what ive heard mostly also..and it looks like kimik did even better than me..read a few posts back..now,back to the showcase 22 in question,the post stateing why heritage/steve might not want to disclose if the book was restored or not is a very valid point,along with the fact that heritage is the compitition,and very well could know first hand that that is a higher grade book sitting in a 8.0 holder that cgc couldnt slab... if they bought it,they could "hypothetically" crack it out,and market it as graded "x" grade by former cgc pres,steve borock... i know its all hypothitical,but they could potentially garner "cgc" market value that way at higher grade.... i'll go back to my corner now... The difference with my books was that I had originally subbed them/bought them from the OO who subbed them so I knew what I was dealing with. I made out well on the deal, but left $10K+ in profit on the sidelines by choosing quick and cheap via PGX vs. CGC.

my experience is just the opposite...have had 3 8.0 or higher pgx books, come back 1 full grade, 1/2 grade and 1 1/2 grades lower when cgc'd (and one had tear seal missed by pgx , but the glue was minor enough still got blue label) ..damn GAtor,that really sucks..and i asume they were golden age books,with that glue comment.ive heard bad things about pgx golden-age grades,but the opposite about silver-age... my experiences are all in the possitive im 6 for 6 on the + side over the last year or so... pgx 8.0..pressed came back 9.4 WHITE (batman 227) pgx 8.5 straight sub.. cgc 9.2 (asm #50) pgx 8.0 press.. cgc 8.5 (hulk 102) pgx 7.0 straight sub cgc 8.0 white ( ff #48) and two AVENGERS 57's last year: pgx 8.0 press came back cgc 9.0 pgx 9.2 straight sub cgc 9.4 but im afraid im due for a donkey one of these times.... I had a similar experience back in 2006 when I bought a small late 60s early 70s OO hoard (multiples of DD #40 - 70, Iron Man #1-35, Silver Sufer runs, Conan #1-5, Subby #1-40, Captain Savage #1-last issue) from a local collector. He had sent in a bunch of books to PGX, but since I bought the books in November I subbed 60 more books to PGX (graded out between 9.2 - 9.6 with a few 9.8s) in order to catch the post X-Mas run on eBay. I finally resubbed the remaing PGX books with CGC and sent in the "undercopies" that were not good enough for 9.4 IMHO. The PGX 9.0/9.2 books all came back as CGC 9.4/9.6, and the 9.4 PGX books came back as 9.6/9.8 from CGC. The raw books that I sent in came back 9.4 - 9.8 from CGC. The worst part of it IMHO is that I was debating whether I should resub the PGX 9.2 and 9.4 Conan #1, 9.2 Subby #8s, and 9.2/9.4 Silver Surfer issues that I bought from him. They looked way better IMHO.

..i agree,and someone that knows steve should talk to him about the book..if the book really did go to cgc and was not slabbed because of the overhang,im sure it would be remembered. what im saying is,a high grade showcase 22 not being able to be slabbed would be something steve would remember,since im pretty sure its a rare occurance for that book to show up at cgc and not be slabbable...maybe he could fill in the blanks... If anyone doesn`t believe the write-up, all they have to do is email or PM Borock. .. thats exactly what i was getting at... i just know some of the boardies have a open/frequent line of communication with him,as opposed to a bunch of us bombarding him with emails,ect... If I were Steve I would be leery of giving an opinion now for two reasons: 1) He does not have the book in hand and if he is wrong and CGC does turn up micro trimming then his rep takes a hit (which is why I would ask CC to remove that comment if I were him) and 2) He works for the competition now so why should he help CC get a better price?

that book, I believe, was in a cgc "trimmed" holder not too long ago I looked at the book before reading your post, Rick, and that is the first thing that jumps out at me. Let's just say I had two similar looking early ASMs (#3 and #4) that I got for cheap from an eBay seller offline that both came back as trimmed (thankfully, I got a refund).

Actually, you are lucky that the dealer auctioned it off because otherwise the fair thing would have been to sell the book to the collector that was looking at it at the time. That being said, congrats on the purchase. I think the funniest part of your story is the fact that a teenager with a limited budget outbid an adult collector. Sometimes it does not pay to be cheap.

Your copy looks just as nice as the 5.5 they sold today as well. I just paid for my Qualitycomix wins, and I ended up with the 2.0 SC #22 as well thanks to nobody topping my stink bid.

I did not realize that the FF #1 had a reserve. That makes sense pricewise, then.

However, some of the QualityComix auction prices on SA books were better than Clink (say, the 6.5 FF #1). That FF #1 6.5 did a lot better than the CL FF #1 7.0 last week fire sale. Also, both copies had great PQ and no chipping. Was last week the great buying opportunity on SA keys? Time will tell. Here's hoping that 4.0 SC #22s start going for $2K sometime soon. I think that Brent got lucky with his FF #1. My guess is that a few people who did not bid on the Clink auction thought they could get another bargain and drove the price up against one another.
