  1. It actually went for more than I was hoping that it would. For a while it looked like it would have sold for a great buy and flip price.
  2. 3. Hopefully, the purchaser checked the pages to ensure it wasn't a married copy, replaced stapes, etc...just some of the minor handiwork Gerry is known for. I don't think it would matter. Gerry disclosed it was restored and the buyer said he was happy to own a "nice VG" copy of a book he would otherwise be unable to afford.
  4. Gerry was at the Calgary show this spring with a ton of low to mid grade books. He had a restored AF #15 that looked to be in GD/GD+ (he was calling it VG I think) shape that someone bought. Gerry was asking $3K or $4K for it, and I think the guy ended up paying $1800 - $2000 for it which was not that bad provided it was not trimmed. Otherwise, everything else looked overpriced so I guess he was taking a start high, deal lower approach to the show.
  5. I think once you get into non-mainstream genres like westerns, war, romance, humor, etc., discussions of rarity are at a whole different level. But I will be on the lookout for this book now. Good luck finding a high grade copy. I can remember digging up a copy a few years back (2002?) in VG that sold for 4 - 5x (maybe more) Guide on eBay.
  6. Now is the time to load up on your copies of Showcase #30 and #34.
  7. you know, that is what I just emailed to another perspective buyer... I would have to have at least 6501 to end the auction Good luck, Rick.
  8. Not a bad price on the B&B #28 CGC 9.0 in the Heritage Auction today: $31,070.00.
  9. real nice 6.5 ow on ebay right now No, just a lowly 3.0 that I originally procured for a fellow boardie. It is an old label copy with great eye appeal for the grade. (thumbs u
  10. Looks like I will be a member of the club again shortly..........
  11. May be worthwhile if you can land it for the current bid of $305........................but that is about it.
  12. Nice books everyone. Following this thread is making me lean towards pre-Robin Tecs when I start collecting again this fall.
  13. I have heard there doing a -script for a sequel already. They must be confident that GL movie is a winner. I hope. From what I was reading, not sure if legit. They are setting up the sequel for Hal Jordan to give up the role for J. Stewart (has cameo in GL) since most people younger have grown up w/ him in the books and JLA. We will see. Maybe they can do a GL corps and a GL movie at the same time. That would be a big mistake, IMHO. Make sure the first movie is a success, introduce John in the second film while firmly establishing Hal, and then have John as the GL in a spin-off movie with Hal still starring in the other one. Basically, you could have two movies instead of just one. My worry is that replacing Lanterns so soon will turn the franchise into the 1980s Batman franchise (Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney) and we all know how well that ended.
  14. This is the one SA thread that never needs to be bumped. Exactly. Tim does a great job of promoting it.
  15. Rick, have you ever thought about charging people $5 or $10 to take a pic inside your booth holding one or two of the big GA books?
  16. Did it come back with as high a number on the label as you had hoped?
  17. When does the movie come out again? Judging by your new avatar, it appears the commitment is shaking a bit.
  18. You might want to thank them based on the surface scuffing, spine wear, and apparent staining that caused the bottom staple to rust and transfer to the book. (thumbs u
  19. Hey Rich, Twenty bucks says I can guesstimate your fave book... My boardie name showcase22gr1959 is for a reason. And I can guess your favorite PQ is. So those this make you a hoarder? As usual Showcase your books are awesome I'm a somewhat hoarder, I try to go for quality over quantity. Thanks. Then why do you have sub-6.0 copies in the mix. Just kidding. Beautiful set of books. (thumbs u
  20. just to put ryan's numbers in perspective, and this might be a "self serving" post, since I am actively buying and selling BB 28, but I believe my response is valid none the less, as it is based on actual sales (thumbs u ... I recently sold a 5.0 for $1750 (albeit a really nice 5.0, likely pressable higher, so that estimate is probably pretty close for a 5.5) ...but I believe ryan is a wee bit low for a 7.5, and here is why... I sold a nice 7.5 with cr/ow for $4500 very recently (as in last month)... Heritage sold a 7.5 for $4500ish last month too, I believe, and several folks (including myself) have 7.5's available for $5K (four color comics is one that I know of, and $4500 is his "bottom line" as I already inquired, and there was one that I just recently purchased in the low/mid 4K range too)... so while those numbers would be "ideal', my guess is unlikely you will find a 7.5 for less than 4500 ish, as I myself will happily pay that much for one (thumbs u I stand corrected.
  21. Probably someplace around $1500 - $1700 for a 5.5, and then $3500 - $4000 for a 7.5 copy.
  22. I don't know if anyone saw that long back cover crease. I would give this book a 4.0-4.5 the best. Someone must have been confident it would be a 5.0 minimum. The biggest question in my mind is if there is water damage along the spine where it appears that the stain is and if it has caused rusting on the staples. If yes, then it is a sub 4.0 book for certain.
  23. Wow, that was a hefty price for that raw copy and that buyer is f :censored:d. If it just had the creasing and surface wear, I would peg it at a 3.5 at the most. Add in what appears to be a light stain on the back cover along the spine at the bottom staple (and bottom of the spine) and possible oxidation/transfer at the staples on the centrefold, and it is likely a 2.5/3.0 copy at best. Basically, almost 3x the going rate.
  24. Definitely. It is the 3rd most important SA DC. SC4 reminds me of GA Marvel Comics 1. Both books reach to a high point in price and demand and still considered a GRAIL book. SC4 was highly on my list many years ago over a AF15, but I never pursue it. Looks like SC22 is battling SC4 for the DC SA #1 spot and I guess BB28 is part of the top three DC SA for you. I will give you a hint. I consider B&B to be #2 on the SA DC key list, only behind SC #22 at #1...................
