  1. At this rate it won't be long before it passes Marvel Comics #1 in 9.0 value.
  2. And this HA sale was for the weaker looking of the 9.0s.
  3. Damn, Ryan, it takes a lot to satisfy your expectations! I wouldn't normally expect a list of prices prefaced by "okay, but not great" to then have a bunch described as "new GPA high". I think a #1 8.5 with LT pages for $6350 is huge. It means people will pay up for ANY copy that's in reasonably high grade. I have a slightly different take on the #11, which is that its price is holding up remarkably well considering all of the new supply of HG copies that have come on the market, particularly given that 9.4 is no longer highest in census. True enough. Mind you, I don't consider the GPA highs to be that accurate on these books since they do not include the recent Mound City results or other sales. I think the problem with GPA is that a lot of the HG SA DCs are not sold on eBay so their information is a bit out of touch with the market. That being said, I am happy that the market is not overly frothy yet for early SA GL issues. Looks like it is setting things up for a nice run next year or early 2011 before the movie comes out. There is still time to build speculative stashes, if you can find the books in high grade!
  4. unless it was the same book, the #14 can be explained by its hideousness And the fact that Johns did not give Sonar the star villain treatment so far.
  5. The GLs did okay, but not great, as a whole in the Clink auction tonight. I think the one problem was that the selection was a bit weak with nothing after #1 until #11, unlike the Mound City run which had a great selection of earlier HG issues. #1 8.5 LT/OW - $6,350 (did well for a kiss of death LT/OW page quality IMHO) #1 8.0 W - $4,100 (new GPA high in grade) #1 7.0 OW - $1,850 (there is some weakness in 7.0 prices now - too many copies floating around at the moment?) #1 6.5 OW/W - $1,399 (new GPA high in grade) #11 9.4 W - $2,001 (slightly lower than last GPA sale of $2,150 earlier in the year) #12 9.4 OW - $1,890 (new GPA high in grade) #12 9.2 CR/OW - $405 (new GPA high in grade) #14 9.4 W - $1,167 (down significantly from GPA high of $1,554 in May 2008) #16 9.0 OW - $685 (up from last sale, but down from 2008 GPA high of $777) #21 9.2 OW - $376 (new GPA high in grade) #23 9.4 OW/W - $910 (down significantly from GPA high of $1,315 in May 2008) #29 9.4 CR/OW - $475 (down from last GPA sale of $635 in July 2009) #40 9.4 OW/W - $1,676 (not bad - the Bethlehem 9.4 sold for $1,972 in May 2009) #59 9.8 OW/W - $5,900 (Pacific Coast copy - last sold in 2006 for $3,107 according to GPA) #76 9.4 W - $9,200 (back to more normal prices now?) #76 9.2 W - $3,156 (prices seem to be holding well at this level outside of that freak $6,500 sale earlier this year) #76 8.5 W - $827 (prices seem to be holding well at this level)
  6. It is interesting to see the current prices on the Clink 8.0 (White) and 8.5 (LT-OW ). Right now there is just a $100 difference due to the page quality, but the 8.0 looks a bit soft to me compared to other 8.0s I have seen (even though it is old label). I wonder if the 8.0 can surpass the 8.5 based on page quality?
  7. It looks like the market has softened a bit this month with so many 7.0+ copies of GL #1 available. There was one that sold in a recent Heritage Sunday night auction, and there are a few copies of GL #1 in the Clink auction that ends this week. If you are looking, it might be a good time to pick one up now. (thumbs u
  8. Congrats on finding this copy, Brent. It will be interesting to see what the final price is. Based on prices I have seen on other copies in 6.0/6.5 I have inquired about, it would have fallen in the $6000-$7000 during the summer run up. Hopefully Brent can hit or exceed that now.
  9. He certainly did! Seeing his collection and the Mound City come up in short order makes me wonder how many other HG DC collections are lurking in the shadows. Keller's collection was not OO. I know and that is why I did not specify it in my initial question. My guess is that most non-Batman/Superman pre-1962 DCs were well read and in low enough print runs that coming across a partially HG OO collection like Mound City is difficult enough as is. However, it would be an interesting subject to speculate on. Over the past year we have seen the Mound City, Toth, and now the Helen G OO stashes surface, so does that mean we can expect more? If there are a lot of new collections popping up over the next couple of years that probably means most HG SA DC prices will come down a bit since the collector base is much smaller.

  11. You had a nice Green Lantern #1 and I wish I bought that from you. There are plenty of other 7.0s out there if you are still looking. (thumbs u Yours was a decent price...and I like the eye appeal. It was the 7.0 that Brent auctioned off last week.
  12. Definitely worth a shot since it is the nicer of the two original 9.0s. If it were a Marvel key it probably would have received a 9.2.
  13. Perhaps the CL 9.0 was resubbed. One out of many possible explanations? The Comic Link copy looks like it was re-subbed if you look at the CGC gallery. Does that mean the Detective27kid copy has not be graded yet by the buyer? I highly doubt that the old Clink 9.0 copy was resubbed. As Tim alluded in an earlier post, it is in very strong hands.

  15. You can add Sea Devils, Hawkman, Metal Men, Doom Patrol, Challengers of the Unknown, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Superboy and a lot of others to the list as well. Where are you getting your data from? Sea Devils went for very strong prices when Mark Wilson sold some on eBay a couple of years ago, and the prices in the Mound City auction weren`t bad at all. Metal Men, particularly #1, goes for amazingly strong prices given the number of ultra-HG copies in the Census. Top census pre-1963 Jimmy Olsens were routinely going for well over 10X Guide, and sometimes more than 20X Guide, last year. My comments were based on what I have seen setting up at cons and selling on eBay personally. I have had HG runs of those titles from 2 OO collections that sold below guide even slabbed. I could not even give away the HG Doom Patrol run at 50% of guide.
  16. I am not sure right now. You used to be able to land them for below guide in almost every grade below 8.0, but I am not certain now. That being said, with guide at $700 or a smidge higher in VG I would expect someplace between $400 - $600 should do the trick.
  17. You can add Sea Devils, Hawkman, Metal Men, Doom Patrol, Challengers of the Unknown, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Superboy and a lot of others to the list as well.
  18. Yes. There were a couple of slabbed issues that must have had major corner impact crunches since the pancaking did not totally flatten them out.
  19. sold or sent to the factory for another round of squeezing? Sold. They have already been squeezed as far as they can go based on what I saw from them in San Diego.
  20. Looks like things are heating up for GL back issues from dealer sites as well. Worldwide Comics is now sold out of most of the early issues they had available a couple of weeks ago.
  21. Congrats! That is a very nice copy of a classic Adams/O'Neil GL. (thumbs u
  22. Thanks for the heads up, Andrew. (thumbs u I just looked at the auction listings and I take it that these first few books from the collection are the ones being sold in multi-book lots?
  23. Thanks. I almost made a deal on an Action 1 2.5 in 2001, but I decided not to pursue it. Now I'm left without one. Well, if you sell your SC #22 and a couple of other books you will have the funds to do it.
  24. You are starting to amass some very nice Actions as well. (thumbs u
