  1. +1 Isn't this a little like saying the raped woman "was asking for it" ? I think the point is the buyer or NON buyer in this case needs to do something instead of blowing it off..Hall of Shame perhaps for the seller or NON seller? I understand this point of view. I think the problem here is if Yannis were put on the list, there isn't a way for him to make good and be removed from the list. I believe people on the list can get removed by rectifying their situation, but how would this situation be rectified? Don't get me wrong; Yannis is absolutely at fault. I just don't know what the answer is here? I'm going to throw this out- maybe some small monetary compensation to the victim for all of his wasted time? And if he can't make it good then he deserves to stay there. Sorry, but we do not have a negative feedback option like eBay, all we have is the probation list.
  2. True, but based on what I have read here the lack of response from you was why it became public in the first place. I am sorry to hear about the problems in your personal life and understand that it is a difficult time, but if you did not want this to happen then you should have responded to the buyer before he had no other option than to go public.
  3. It was a relatively nicely centered copy with White pages and if the press and flip gang was 100% certain it had been untouched then it would have probably gone for more. This is why I had my original price range at $7-$8 K on it. My rationale was simple - since Doug/his consignors have done the press and flip so often there was likely no room to "upgrade" the book any further
  4. If it did not have the tape I would have snagged it at that price. I thought a bit about taking it anyway, but decided to hold off. Brian probably has another copy or two in reserve.
  5. Here are a couple of older group shots (primarily Bronze Age):
  6. I thought that the results were a bit mixed, to be honest. The highest graded earlier issues went for decent coin, but I kind of expected the #9 (1st Sinestro cover) and #6 (did not meet reserve) to go higher. It was interesting to see the 9.4 GL #76 did not meet reserve or break $8K. It is a great looking copy, but I guess the lack of opportunity to maximize its value with a quick press and flip probably held it back.
  7. Before they were sold in late December/early January:
  8. Here are the only books I purchased at the Calgary show this weekend. There was another dealer/collector there that had a nice tight flat group of OO GLs for sale. Unfortunately, there was no copy of #76. The average grade was probably 7.5/8.0, and while I was interested in a deal on the whole run I decided to just stick with the couple that had slabbing potential. I also took the #52 since it was decent enough for the price.
  9. We wouldn't mind if there was something other than Superboys on display. Seriously, though, nice books and wicked display/comic area. (thumbs u
  10. What is the over under on the amount of time for a 9.9 copy to pop up?
  11. Some of them are from the "Levittown Collection". Does anyone know the background on that?
  12. I will definitely be happy if SC #22 hits half of the price in grade that AF #15 is at. (thumbs u It was interesting that the 5.0 SC #22 did not break $2600 or meet reserve in the Qualitycomix auction this past week, yet the 4.0 hit $1950 on feebay. I wonder if the reserve was the main problem?
  13. Hmmmm........looks like there might be an arbitrage opportunity to buy books from the auction houses now to flip on eBay. This is your chance to get at least $2K for your copy. Too bad I bowed out on a couple of other copies shortly after that purchase that did not go much higher.
  14. Hmmmm........looks like there might be an arbitrage opportunity to buy books from the auction houses now to flip on eBay.
  15. I can't see the difference.........can you see the difference?
  16. ...I still haven't seen a 9.2 yet. while it won't have white pages cgc designation, I believe you will be seeing a 9.2 sooner than later Do you have some inside info that you can share with the rest of us?
  17. Wow is all I can say about the prices. And I thought I was gouging here locally asking for $2K for my 4.0.
  18. From what I have been able to piece together, there were one or two collectors chasing high grade GL runs last year that drove up prices on most books until the Mound City auctions. We have seen prices sag a bit since then most likely due to the fact that they are no longer in play. Hopefully the movie hype/success next year will bring more big spenders out for GL.
  19. The 8.5 GL #1 did not break $5500 in the Clink focused auction tonight, which is down considerably from the last GPA sale ($9K+ change) but probably closer to what the true market value is for GL #1 right now (8.0s are $4-$4.5K books).
  20. #87 has been a big book in 9.6 for some time now. IIRC they're going well over $1K No bargain in 9.6 for this hot book. Recent prices for 9.2 and 9.4 has been quite strong and looks like up 75%+ over a year ago. It could go even higher if they have a John Stewart cameo in the movie.
  21. Definitely. I have been fortunate to turn up a 9.0 and a 9.2 over the past 4 years, but nothing else in high grade. Were there any copies there? Also, were there any nicer copies of SC #22 available?
  22. Good luck to anyone who is bidding. (thumbs u
  23. The current Pedigree auction should give us a bit of an update on the strength of the early SA GL market: SILVER AGE DC'S: Although there are a few different titles represented in the auction, including a nice group of 9.4-9.8 Wonder Womans, the highlight is the Batman and Green Lantern runs from the early 1960's that will simply blow you away. The Batman group consists of 25 books, all in 9.0 and higher, most in 9.6 and higher, including the complete 20 book Pacific Coast run of #s 152 through 171. The Green Lantern group consists of 11 issues between #3 and #19, all but two in 9.4 and higher, with a few Pacific Coast issues. Almost every book in these two runs is the highest CGC graded copy with most being the single highest certified! Here is the complete list of the Batmans and Green Lanterns: Green Lantern: 3 9.2 6 9.2 9 9.4 11 9.4 12 9.6 13 9.4 14 9.6 15 9.4 (Pacific Coast) 17 9.8 (Pacific Coast) 18 9.6 (Pacific Coast) 19 9.6 (Pacific Coast)
  24. So, what is the selection of SC #22s like at the C2E2 this weekend?
