  1. I think a good/great comic book artist is one who innately understands the essence of the characters they are working on and not only captures them on every page, every panel, but elevates them.

If any wonder what I mean, just take a look at the work of Darwyn Cooke.

Nice covers.  Finlay was really good.

I see one of those has a story by C.S. Forester.  He wrote the Horatio Hornblower novels, which I read years ago and really enjoyed.

I haven't read any of the Hornblower novels (the made for TV movies were great watching), but I know they were the inspiration for Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series, which I have read and loved.

One of George Evans' best EC covers.  Ties for best Evans cover with Shock #17, imo.

This tension-filled cover is ten shades of awesome and a favorite SSSt! How could it not make anyone spotting it on the comic rack want to buy it just to find out whether she's aiming that pitchfork at the scarecrow or the girl?!?

  4. I buy a lot of comics thinking, "Wow, what a deal. I bet I could sell it for a lot more!" And I haven't sold one yet. I have to stop buying books I like, they're too hard to let go :pullhair:

And for what it's worth, I also dislike first appearances that don't feature the character on the front of the comic. It's first cover appearances that I chase after, like Avengers #67 (1st Ultron cover).

I'm batting zero for nine :tonofbricks:

Got beat by a nose on the JLA #64 (9.8 White), Hulk Annual #1 and a few of the Hulk pictureframe 9.8 Whites...and got left in the dust by the winner of the beautiful House of Mystery 191 (9.8 White) which went for over $2,700.

Make that zero for ten :tonofbricks::tonofbricks:

  6. I was checking out the Comic Crypt's Ebay page and noticed the comment " - Active members of the CGC Boards since 2003."

Are they still active here? I didn't see their name on the list of board members/Ebay handles on the sales thread.

Interesting how they spelled his name back then. Was it wrong then? Is it wrong now? When did it change?

    One can't be right.

Horrors, I just realized I may have been spelling it wrong the last 50 years.

I never even noticed that! It's definitely Mxyzptlk now.

I checked Wikipedia and learned this: " In Superman #131 (1959), the spelling of Mxyztplk's name changed (by some accounts through mistake) to "Mxyzptlk""

  8. Grabbed this one off Ebay and didn't realize until I got it that it came from a boardie (Thirdgreenham - I recognized his name when I saw it on his Forest City Coins business card).

Besides being an Oakland (I hope), and the fact that I love the pre-Kirby Losers covers where Kubert works the logo into the art, I was sold on this book by the CGC mis-labelling of the issue. I don't think I'll get the label changed, I love the novelty of having it incorrect!

Thanks Mr. Greenham, I loved reading the family history on your webpage, and thanks for the stamps!
