Thanks! Many of the issues were not devoted entirely to the I...Vampire story. So, some issues literally only had 5 or 6 pages for the storyline.

I'm going to reread Stoker's Dracula starting today and may actually take notes about traits of Stoker's vampires, and possibly Dracula's as he likely has powers most other vampires either don't have or only have to a lesser extent. I haven't read it in 30 years, so I've forgotten many of those details. Then I guess I'll have to reread Tomb of Dracula, watch Lost Boys, watch the Twilight series, see if I can find the Hellsing Manga and Anime series. WTH, that barely scratches the surface!

And don't forget to watch Let the Right One In! (the Swedish version with subtitles)

I thought it one of the best vampire movies I've seen, and it's packed with Vampire lore.

  2. Shipping to CGC from Canada

I see under the CGC FAQ's this comment:

As a Canadian submitter to CGC, the burden of proof that the books came from Canada falls to you. The best way to prevent this from being called into question is to visit your local customs office before shipping your submission and explain your intentions for these comics — that they are yours and are being sent to the US for evaluation only. They will provide you with a form that should accompany your comic submission and, when the books are returned with this form, the package will not be called into question.

Can any fellow Canadian submitter point me toward where I can find this customs form (I'm hoping it can be downloaded online)?

    Thanks (thumbsu

  3. My guesses:

    DD            8.0
    FF              5.5
    FLASH      5.5
    HERC        9.2

I had the Flash as a 6.0 and graded it down when I saw the thingy (I thought it was a tape pull) on the back cover.

But that DD...the lower back corner threw me for a loop. I wasn't sure if it was a bindery chip, blunted corner or piece missing (I hadn't discovered the large scans). I stick by my grade though, there is no way that outer cover is higher than an 8.0. If I was you I'd send it back to CGC immediately and tell them they graded it too high.

Congrats to all those who advanced!

    :sorry:

How have the books been so far?  Fun?  No fun? Too easy?  Too hard?  Just right?

Would anyone complain if there's a CGC grade magazine in the next round?  How about a CGC graded poster?

Thought I was doing well with my guesses, but didn't discover the large scans until after I'd submitted my scores for this round. If I survive, I will definitely hold out for bigger scans (which were an eye opener on at least two of the comics) before submitting my scores!

  5. Chit Chats Express is a shipping company based in Ontario and BC that will take your shipments across the border and ship them via USPS. Even with their nominal fee, it is far more affordable than Canada Post (especially if you can use Media Mail) for those shipping regularly to the USA.

You can google them on the interweb to find locations, rate sheet, etc...

I live in Vancouver, Canada.  Luckily, I am close to the border, so I have stuff shipped to a parcel receiving place in Blaine, Washington. Then, I drive down once every couple of months and pick up.  For my own shipping, I use a service called Chit Chat Express, since Canada Post has its head up its .

I also use Chit Chat, but have my parcels sent to Point Roberts. It's handy as heck and a fraction of the cost of Canada Post. And I haven't been stopped once by Canada Customs (most of my buys are below $400), I just have to endure their staring at me as if I'm nuts when I declare I'm only bringing back a few old comics and I paid over $300 for them. One extra skeptical border guard, confused by the invoices I handed him, said, "and the guy you bought these off, his name is Richie Rich?"

I see what you are saying. I will look into that. Even to have the book in 7.5-8.0ish condition and have an envelope (even if not THE envelope) still makes me happy though

I bid on a bunch of the Ebay EC auctions last month with the original mailers (unfortunately, I didn't win any), and all of the mailers clearly showed the notation for the issue they were shipped with on the lower left corner. It's so strange that this seller (who won at least one of the auctions I bid on) decided to erase/deface the notation when reselling them. Maybe he thought the writing on them made them less desirable?  (shrug)
