Seems like attendance was up about 15% from previous high. Some dealers reported having their strongest retail sales; was my 2nd highest for comic sales at a 1 day local con. Not sure if I should be happy or sad when Harley is my best customer: must be wholesaling my GA, SA, and EC.
Wandered by your display to check out the X-Men #12 only to later spot it at Harley's booth graded and priced higher than I'm sure it would have been if I'd bought it from you.
No deals for me, had some good conversations but otherwise left the show empty handed.

Not sure why all of you would take the strategy of bidding and winning books you didn't really want just in order to justify the shipping charges?
Especially when there's a much simpler solution which is just to ask them to hold onto your winnings for you until you do win enough books that you feel comfortable with the shipping charges. That is, as long as you don't mind waiting a few auctions to get your books.
I would never bid on a comic I didn't want. It's more a case of the $70 shipping charge for 1-3 books encouraging me to dive deeper into an auction than I normally would (or search the exchange - where I normally never look unless something pops up on my want list) looking for deals to pad my order. For instance, in the last auction I had two wins and, hoping for a third, checked the remaining auctions, placed a few more bids, and was very happy to add this to my collection for only $65 (and no additional shipping).

Maybe... but I want it in a CGC holder and I trust Joe. Let’s just say that with a press I don’t think it would hurt even if the book goes from s PGX 4.5 to s cgc 4.0. PGX graded it in 2006.
PGX? Yech. For some reason I always think there are only two grading companies. Definitely deserving of a crossover.

Dear @joeypost - I have another book to send off with the stack when I finally get my butt in gear and send a package off. Each time I am ready to do the paperwork something else comes up that I might send down if I win.
Currently sitting in a non CGC holder at a 4.5... rolling the dice on this book graded in 2006.
Nice pickup
But is that the type of comic a press would improve beyond a 4.5? That spine looks fragile to me.

Well if you live in Canada (like I do), CLink charges $70 for 1 CGC book... which is insane. (and they only use Fedex so I can't imagine what the custom brokerage fees are...)
First book I won recently (after taking a 10 year break on comic book collecting) I asked them to put it back on sale... No point in paying such shipping charge on a $100 book...
Nice DD btw!
Yep, Comiclink's $70 shipping to Canada is steep, I used to get the comics shipped to a US mailbox to save money but then they started charging state sales tax which often ended up being even more expensive. I still bid on Comiclink auctions, but only on comic(s) that will make the shipping semi-reasonable, which for myself means less than 10% of the overall cost. More than once I have won a comic worth a few hundred dollars and then had to scramble to either win more auctions or pick something up on the exchange to make the $70 fee (which is good for 1 - 3 slabs) bearable.
Otherwise, it holds me back from bidding on lower-value comics for fear that I will, as mentioned, end up with a $100 comic and a $70 shipping charge (at that point I would most likely have them relist it).

I noticed WW typically does denote cracked books though, with their corresponding former grades? Or at least that's what I see on their site.
They have many cracked books listed and noted as such, which makes the omission even more suspect when they elect not to note it on a listing for a cracked comic.

I don't think ComicConnect inspects any raws consigned and sold on their website to make sure they meet the promised grade before forwarding them on to the buyer. I have only ever bought two raws there and both came back from CGC as having undisclosed restoration (CT).

I'm sorry Gino if it feels like I'm trying to get you to throw Ritter under the bus. At this point I'm interested in your point of view as a buyer of this type of material in this grade range. Is an undisclosed detached cover a deal breaker, frowned upon, or just no big deal in the 1.0-2.5 grade range?
For myself a detached cover isn't a deal breaker. If there was a book I wanted that was normally out of my price range but had dropped down to 1.8 (and otherwise presented well) because of a detached cover I would actually be very interested. However, based on the CGC grade of 1.0, I would say a detached cover is the least of this particular comic's problems.

So a 1.0 allows for a detached cover - then why is it called out as a visible label note? Are all detached covers called out in this fashion, or is that a hit or miss standard?
CGC notes all detached covers, as all sellers should. And I have had a comic with a detached cover grade as high as 3.0 by CGC.

I didn’t mention the auction house or the dealer or even the publisher of the book haha!! That was mainly because I wasn’t calling anyone out but that is indeed the book. It sold on CC last month for $930. Same copy Again NOT judging the price or anything just was curious about overall practice in our hobby and greatly appreciate everyone’s input it is certainly enlightening
As soon as I saw your post I was 99% sure it was Worldwide and proceeded from there. This isn't the first time their practice in regards to cracking out graded books and selling them as ungraded at a higher grade has been noted. There is nothing illegal about this - it isn't fraud - as grading is subjective and buyers should always buy the book, not the label. But hiding this info from a buyer while at the same time disclosing it on other comics listed on your site is highly questionable and, in my opinion, beneath the standards of our hobby.

So let me get this right.
GPA reports that a 1.0 of this book sold in Feb for $1550. Census says that book has a label note: "Cover detached. Tape on cover & interior cover." So it would appear that's the book in question? And it went up for sale a month or so ago and ending up dropping almost half in price?
So now apparently Ritter (if the book Black Adam posted is THE book) feels it deserves the original sale price, but would have a better chance to get it again if that pesky 1.0 but especially the Cover detached notation wasn't in your face? IF that's the same book the thing that would have me more upset isn't the cracking, nor the grade inflation, nor the price bump - but ABSOLUTELY leaving off the description that the cover is detached. That would be outrageous. And stupid - like it's not something you could hide in the hand. What would be the point? And Stephen may be different things, but stupid isn't one I've heard him described as.
A GD- (1.8) grade allows for the cover to be detached, so one could argue it is graded accurately.

Three for me.

If a seller has CGC graded books listed on their website as well as cracked-out comics with the CGC label noted and included, I would assume any cracked out comics with the label not noted or included is because the seller is trying to hide this information from customers. I prefer dealers who are more honest and would rather buy from a seller who told me CGC had graded a comic as a 1.0, but they personally believed it to be under-graded and had priced it accordingly, than buy from a seller who tried to keep that info from me.
