It wasn't opened by customs and no shards anywhere in the box  (that's why I said in my original post that it must have been sent out from CGC already cracked/broken).

Main point of my post is to hopefully make CGC aware that some sort of tape is required to insure secure packaging as everyone knows these cases are pretty fragile so hopefully they can correct this and avoid future problems like this.

Sorry, I missed in the first post that the piece was missing. Definitely sounds like it was damaged at CGC and never should have been shipped out in the first place without being reholdered first (and pressed if there was any damage to the comic). Make sure they credit you for shipping both ways. And for what it's worth, shipments with more books (10+) are shipped in a carton with 1" cardboard packing surrounding the slabs - no bubble wrap - and that is the only time i have had shipments arrive with damaged (cracked) cases.

The box was a little dinged up but not to the extent that a holder should have been damaged.

There was extra room in the box they used so more bubble wrap was in order to prevent the books from banging around in the box while in transit.

I just very surprised that there was no tape holding any of the bubble wrap together - it was just folder over and held together by the elastic - not very secure.

Assuming the box wasn't opened by customs (which could explain why the plastic bag was missing), one could almost speculate that the comic was dropped - and damaged - prior to being shipped. Were the plastic shards from the broken case still in the bubble wrap?

  3. Was the shipping carton pulverized? Sucks that the slab was damaged but with only two comics in the box and with the thick bubble wrap CGC surrounds them with I would expect the box to have been crunched pretty good to incur that kind of damage. I have far more problems with SCS than damaged cases with CGC's packing method.

  4. Just curious, for those who have consigned with the various consignment/auction houses, do you require personal insurance for your consigned goods or are the auction houses (Comiclink/Heritage/MCS/ComicConnect/etc) responsible for any theft, fire, loss while your property is in their hands?

I like hearing this info as well. I averaged 93% of last GPA across 7 books (sold 8, but removing one oddity from the calculation due to lack of sales data). The itemization is as follows: 98%, 99%, 45%, 89%, 117%, 91%, & 111%.

Great info. Now I just need to figure out why every comic I submit a bid on at 10% less than GPA sells for way above the last recorded sale...   :tonofbricks:

I'm always interested to here how sellers felt this round of auctions went for them.  I looked at a couple books and the sale prices seem pretty strong so I hope people did well.

Sold 13 comics in the current Comiclink auction for a sales total of $3,094.

10 of the 13 comics sold for less than current GPA.

On average, the comics sold at 90.9% of current GPA.

Best sale was 44% above last recorded GPA ($300)

Worst sale was 40% below last recorded GPA ($160)

So here is an interesting update on my most recent submission

2 books submitted Aug 28th keep in mind these are both Express Submissions both ways (CCS and CGC)

    CCS receives 9-16-19

    Gets to CGC 10-8-19

    Both Prescreened

One is upgradeable the other is not despite the only primary defect being a back cover wrinkle ( Scans coming if I ever get it back, really thought it would jump at least 2 grades)

Okay I say press the one, other labeled do not encapsulate

CGC imaging sends scans 10-10-19 NO reply to numerous emails and contacts through online contact us form..Case has a huge scuff in the images

Send Donell at imaging a direct email asking why is the case scuffed, no reply

    Books sit until 11-4-19??

Received yesterday ONE book out of the TWO

Holder is scratched ,  no HUGE scuff (reholdered?)  , and book has deep color breaking stresses on the spine that were not present prior to submission

Call CCG today , Chris says dunno where the other book is, our guys will look into it.

Look at my billing statement and it is $195 for one book ($60 for Overnight, so $135 for grading)

Call Accounting, ask why $135? They aren't sure, go through the billing and says that grader notes cost me $30 , huh?? For real?? I can buy them on the site for $15? Aren't notes part of the submission process? This is new he says , not sure of his name, nice guy though

I ask what about the MISSING book?

Says not sure why we didn't ship that overnight with the other, we will look into it. Should be updated today

11:22 PM now, still shows DO NOT ENCAPSULATE

No replies to any emails , no response from CGC in regards to the MISSING book

I know this is a lengthy message but if anyone read it all the way through perhaps my fellow forum members can assist me with this?

I am not independently wealthy and giving CGC a 1k+ book and getting another similar book damage in the process really hurts my collection

Thanks in advance for lending me your ears and any advise is greatly appreciated

I know when I have had rejected pre-screens with CCS they have shipped them back separately (despite my protests) from the approved comics in the same shipment, usually at the same time as the approved books are moved to CGC. My guess is your rejected comic is in limbo in the shipping department. Hope it finds its way back to you soon. :wishluck:

  9. Sent four comics in to be pre-screened for Restoration Removal - 7/16

Three did not get past pre-screen, fourth moved on to Fast Track Economy Resto Removal (25 days)

Notified yesterday that it had finally been forwarded from CCS to CGC for re-grading - 75 days later!

E-mailed customer service and was informed that CCS does not offer Fast Track for restoration removal - it is an error on their website. :tonofbricks:

Now I just need to get the $15 they charged me for Fast Track back...

Am I alone in thinking unexpected 105 is the most undervalued bronze horror? Sure there is no first app until the mad mod witch a few issues later, but still a first with a nice skull cover and sells for nothing.

I think for most DC Bronze Age horror collectors Unexpected doesn't really join the ranks until the logo change and real horror focus beginning with issue #110.

    Unexpected #110

Where you at the PNE, as I never get introduced to you.  Don't be shy and unlike other times, I was there the whole time.

I was there but was only able to stay for the first hour or so, talked a bit with Van Isle Pressing and checked out Harley's booth. I know there are a few people from the boards who go there but the only one I've ever met is Aardvark. Maybe we'll cross paths at the next show.

    Anyone heard from sterling recently?

i just thought it was odd, because even vg copies of dc horror are selling for decent prices, and the volume seems to be way up the last few months.

I don’t chase High grades anymore, happy with 6.0-8.5 in most cases. But am curious about what people who do are experiencing.

He disappeared shortly after changing his name to @takeyourlemons and hasn't been back to the boards in more than 2-1/2 years...

Not expecting much of a response, but I have to ask. Sales on eBay of bronze horror are stronger than I have ever seen, but there appears to be no discussion of the books here. This used to be the place where collectors talked about the books. Is it because people want to be quiet until they get what they are after, or just that everyone here has them already and have moved on?

For Bronze I mainly chase the Wrightson DC stuff and (other than HOS 92) decent copies seem to be harder and harder to find, though I did place some bids on the recent high grade Weird War copies on HA. I still like peeking in here to see what others have posted but this thread has seemed to have had one foot in the grave ever since Sterling Comics stopped posting. :sorry:
