  1. Not a real big deal. We knew there would be some flippers. But where is this up for sale and are they noting that it came from the Toth collection. That is are biggest concern that these books don’t just get lost in the shuffle. I was disappointed that the JLA #1 on E-Bay didn’t have a notation in it. As I understand it market acceptance may help us achieve pedigree status. (thumbs u
  2. I totally agree about the miswrap but what about the color. Too me it looks pretty dingee. The whites are not as bright and seem yellowed. I can’t tell from the pictures how sharp the corners are, but still. just my 2 cents.
  3. Also I'd like to point out that after out initial meeting w/ Heritage there was about 6 months worth of debating. I did research with a number of other auction houses and determined Heritage was the best way to go. (thumbs u
  4. I had a question for you guys: I've looked at both our copy the 9.4 and the 9.6 copy of JLA #1 on the CGC gallery, and frankley was not impressed w/ the 9.6. What is your take on it? I see the flaws in the 9.4 copy and I'm trying to be unbiased, but I think our copy has way better eye appeal.
  5. I was waiting for someone to get to this Jackcsco. I don't have a complete inventory yet. When my dad and I started buying in bulk, we sorta just left everything in the box it came in. This sale has really motivated us to clean up our act. 35+ long boxes of Marvel (thumbs u 22+ long boxes of DC ? not sure about other pub. still working on it. We only had a few graded but they were all to keep. We thought if the collection got pedigreed, we wanted a few in holders.
  6. I'll have to check, mabye Tarzans but not sure. Some are in really good shape my X-men 93 graded 9.6 and that was the under copy. I have good runs in good shape, I'm pretty confident most would at least be 9.2 w/ many way over. Like I said just wait'n to see what happens.
  7. I agree w/ Tim that Heritage was defitnely the right choice. (thumbs u But I will say that being a bit nieve to the whole process, we didn't really understand what we should/could ask for. There are defitnely things my dad and I would do different. We did get a lower sellers commision.
  8. Not necessarily what they didn’t want. But you have to understand my father was very attached to these books. We were initially excited about the possibility of a pedigree because at least then they would sorta always be his. So we didn’t push the issue too much if Heritage didn’t seem fully interested. We decided early on that anything Disney related we’d keep, so that took out many of the early Dell issues and what was left was Bugs Bunny, Woody Wood Pecker, etc. not the best stuff, but all in decent grade. I had decided that since the collection was going to eventually be mine anyway that I was keeping ASM and X-Men (working on complete runs), so that left a lot of Bronze age Marvel’s that are good $$ but not great. So in the end it was decided to just sell the DC’s through Heritage to start and after that reconvene.
  9. Thanks for the advice Tim. I'd really like to move some of the other books. I thought about setting up at a local show, but I'd really like to sell them in groups not just cherry picking. I do have an E-bay account, so I may need you guys to vouch for me.
  10. I can't read the cert. # or I'd be able to tell you if is the Toth copy. I have most of them memorized. If it is the Toth copy it got from Dallas to Vancouver quick.
  11. Trust me, we would to. No explanation has really been given. I've been keeping track of the average CGC grade of all the books and we are at about a 9.3. With many as Highest or tied for Highest Grade.
  12. Thanks for the post steelcity. Actually my dad likes to make a point of letting everyone know that all the Issues that have been sold thus far ( and will be sold) were reader copies, he would read every single one. Storage evolved over time, originally in daily newspaper plastic bags. When the technology evolved, into polybags. They went through about 3 bag changes over the years. My dad was also pretty cheap no boards. When storage became an issue he put them in long boxs, turned the box on end and filled it with as many as he could so they've basically been pressing for about 30 yrs. You couldn't even get a dime into these boxes, very tight.
  13. They remaining books not already w/ Heritage have sorta already been Inherited by me. Haven't quite decided what to do. I was waiting for all the Heritage stuff to move then I'll make a decision.
  14. No Marvels at all until 73 but I do have just about every bronze age key now ( I take that back, we have one X-Men # 23, he's not sure how that got in there) There are quite a bit of Sci-Fi books that have not come up for auction yet, mainly Strange Adventures and House of Mystery but I'll check the inventory when I get home. The only books we kept from his childhood collection was Superboy 15 (it was coverless but also one of his first books) and the majority of the Dells. My dad and I are huge Disney fans, so we have a good run of duck books and Four colors. My dad recently started trying to fill in some gaps, I think he now has some of your old books Tim. Some of you guessed early on but out Registry handle is TrinTrek. (thumbs u
  15. Cool and thanks. So far about 10 Wonder Woman books have come up for sale and that is why I asked. There was a total of 110 cosigned starting w/ #70 pretty solid from 156-274
  16. Green Lantern & Flash are two of my dad's favorite characters. Unfortunately their runs both started mid way. Flash started w/ 122 at least he got in before the major key and GL starts at 8. I asked him once way he didn’t have earlier ones and he thinks maybe the store just never got them. There are B&B and Showcase runs but in the beginning he would only buy them if it had a character he liked if not he’d pass. So there are some early holes but it gets complete pretty quick.
  17. Yes one of our chief reasons for selling was the hopes that we may get a Pedigree designation. But thus far we've been declined. So all you guys help us petition to get there.
  18. I don't think in the early days he looked for back issues. He was only 11 or 12 when he started and once they were off the newstand I think that was the end of them. Yes Heritage mainly picked off the Cream of the crop, so to speak, to sell first and they were waiting on some insight on what could be pressed. When he started collecting again in 72/73 it became a DC/Marvel collection. Before that it was all DC/Dell. We did not consigne many of the Dells I think most have already sold.
  19. The rest of the collection to be sold is still mainly late silver early bronze w/ some ungraded early silver sneaking in there. And yes there is a long run of Wonder Womens, I'm not sure why they havn't come up in the auctions earlier. Maybe just Mid-grade not sure
  20. 1. My dad grew up in a small town, Granite City Ill (not Canada )on the east side of the river from St. Louis. He would buy them at a five and dime store that his mom worked at. He knew when the new ones were coming so he was always there on that day. Mainly superhero as you’ve guessed but it was really anything he could get his hands on. He always tried to get the one’s from the middle of the stack so they wouldn’t have twine creases. 2. Currently about half of what we gave to Heritage has been sold but they only took about 1% of the entire collection. 3. My dad collected regularly from about 1955-68 took a short brake while at college and started again in 73-81. I started in the early 90’s (I was one of the kids that got hooked on Marvel Cards) when my dad and I joined forces and collected just about everything until 05’. Just got to darn expensive w/ all the darn variants.
  21. I’ll try to be as concise as possible I know you all have a lot of questions. My dad and I have been reading the boards for the past year and have marveled at some of the stories you guys come up with. (thumbs u
  22. First thank you tth2 I was sorta thinking the same thing about having a thread devoted to everyone’s questions. But I didn't want to be presumptuous and start it myself and I didn’t want to flood the JLA thread w/ all the questions.
  23. David Toth is indeed still alive as he is my father. Hello again all my name is Andrew. I'll be more than happy to answer most of your questions. But you'll have to be patient, I don't get on the computer to often and have even less time to type. I'm Sorry I didn't notice the corners in the scans but I suppose your trained eyes would be better than me, I'm fairly new at trying to grade CGC style. Hope to talk to you soon.
  24. First and foremost I would like to say hello to all of you. I’ve been an active watcher of these boards for about a year now and have come to know and respect many of you. Your posts are a welcome diversion from my work grind as I check them often. The reason for my posting now is I wanted to clear the air a little on the recent JLA 1 that was up on E-bay. I would like to assure all of you that there was no restoration done to this book or any of the other Toth books (some books were pressed). Matt Nelson did all pressing and currently has some more of the books. I believe the LLC has something to due with how the picture was taken you can see it in both the E-Bay & CGC Gallery picture but is minor in Heritage one. LRC may have been creased after it was encapsulated, as it is not in the Heritage scan. I don’t mean to rant and am not trying to be rude. I hope to talk with many of you in the future. Just wanted to give you guys some background info. Thanks again to all of you.
